Since I've been keeping an eye on this phone, I figured I'll post up any information I see that might be of interest to anyone else. Lots of the information here isn't terribly reliable as it comes from word of mouth forum jabber. "My bosses, sisters, brother in law, knows a hobo who overheard a Bell employee walk by saying the Palm Pre would be released on __________".

Believed Release Date: Between June & July on the Bell Network ( )
Bell rep mentioned the PRE is looking to launch next week at Bell for $199. -- Questionable, unknown if $100 rebate applies (Sprint was $199 with a rebate), you'd also think Bell would hype it a bit more.

I went to a Bell store downtown Toronto and asked and he said they are having an event for the Pre on the 24th. I dont know if that event is specific to that store, or if its for all the Bell stores.

Student Plan $50/month that may be applicable to the Pre.

I was super excited for the Pre as well, still sort of am but got a good retention deal and picked up an Android phone on Rogers. I shouldn't have any issue selling the plan+phone if I really want to but I'm not sure I'm willing to go back to Bell for the Pre.

I *think* I'm just going to hold out for GSM versions to come out.

I'm considering a hold out myself, but primarily because of the new carriers coming in - I definitely want to avoid being locked in.

At the same time, Cellphones seem to have a decent re-sell value so if I feel I make a mistake I'll probably only lose $100->$200 on the hardware cost. The contract is the main issue, it seems like I'll have a hell of a time trying to get rid of that with Bell's reputation.

Since I've never been with Bell, I'm also hoping all the craptacular reviews are based on -past- business practice, but I get the feeling that might just be naive, haha.

edit: Alternatively there's some other Palm devices on the horizon. Overall, I'm more-so interested in the OS and company (stocks :D).

yeah I was a little concerned with signing a new contract so close to new players coming into the market, but I figure if their plans are so much better I'll just call Rogers and threaten to quit unless they match. I have the feeling 95% of RFD'ers and HOFO'ers with contracts will be doing the same thing.
