Hi there,

I received a call from RBC HR today, they want to recruit me for their call centre in Mississauga as an outbound investment rep and they said I have to undergo a "computer assessment" where I have to memorize a fictional company's products and pricing and then answer questions based on that.

Does anybody have more information on this test...is it difficult? Are there lots of numbers and details in the text that have to be memorized? Does the test involve anything else?

Any information at all is appreciated - I read an older thread here on the same topic but I thought it would be better to make a new topic rather then bump a really old thread

Thanks!

I did the computer test last year before getting employed by them...this was in insurance though, but same location. It is supposed to be very simple. They want to make sure you are computer literate. There are apparently no right or wrong answers, just make sure you listen well and follow instructions. ie: if the voice asks you to click the exit button, you just click it. Keep in mind the program measures your speed and efficiency, so dont take too long. The instructions are very simple and you are given examples before starting the actual test. Overall, it's a very simple test and if you are computer literate, you are sure to pass. Good luck!

^ Wait what? I thought it involved memorization and all kinds of weird multiple choice questions..

I vaguely remember some memorization of prices provided at the beginning which is used throughout the test i believe, but not much. Overall, the test is used to check your computer literacy. I even remember the HR person monitoring my test telling me that there is no right or wrong answer for the questions. They just want to see how comfortable you are with computers as you will be relying heavily on them for the job.

^ Oh ok...I'd heard from a friend that there's a long list of prices and options you have to memorize, and then tricky questions based on it...off the top of your head, do you remember any of the questions?

I don't remember any questions at all, but why not just call HR on Monday and ask them what to expect on the test?

Why you have to ask around if people remember the questions? It is not a test like you do in college, it is not base on your knowledge on the products but base on how smart you are and how you are able to handle client's inquire, even you are not sure about the answer, choose the answer which you will use to answer the client professionally. It is pretty straight forward and common sense and also remember to do the command that they will ask you to do. (Don't ask me what command, I don't remember exactly, but the assessment is not difficult at all and if anyone fail this assessment, they do no deserve to get the job IMO)

Stop being paranoid about it, just have a good night of sleep. Have a clear mind, don't be stress.

*I also answered your PM.

^ I know it sounds silly, but I'm great at getting nervous and screwing up simple things, especially when there's a time limit involved.

It's extra crazy because I just gave the CFA1 without much nervousness, which is a million times tougher then this and timed as well, but that wasn't a problem for some reason.

Anyway, I was just figuring it's better to be as prepared as possible..
