Ok, so i have an interview as a retail clerk at a bookstore tomorrow. What should I say if they ask:
1. Tell me about yourself
2. Why do you want to work for us?
3. What distinguishes you from other people?
I'm a computer science student, honestly I just want to make some spending cash. So I REALLY don't know what to say for #2 since I doubt this experience will help me in a computer related career. But anyways, what should I say for 1-3? I have no retail experience either.

#2: You can say you enjoy reading books, and therefore it would be fun to talk to customers about books.
#3: Very out-going, participates in many clubs at school. Likes to read.

I think that's good, except it's a textbook store :(

Hope this advice is not too late since your interview is tomorrow.
Retail bookstore clerk? Possible question from them is: What's your favorite book and have you read any books recently?

Hi, thanks for the advice, but it's an educational bookstore (they sell textbooks and stuff like shakespeare).

Just make them like you... i doubt they will care too much about your love of textbooks and how you just love reading math/science/english textbooks.
In fact, that may make them not like you, so, just make them like you.

#1: State some facts about your experiences that qualify you for the job. Like how you've worked at XYZ inc as a xxx person and you feel these experiences will be of use to the bookstore. With no retail experience, just name some soft skills you've developed from whatever is on your resume.
#2: You can be honest and say "I need money" but you'll also need to say something to the point that "I want money, but I have the skills and motivation to work for it...". If this store is close to home, then say so cause it's a win-win. You won't be late and it's convenient for you to get there.
#3: You'll be competing with other candidates who probably have retail experience. Your edge would not be experience but personality. Smile a lot and show that you understand customer service and can follow store procedures to the dot. Also, recap on anything you've said that you feel was a good answer. This kind of question usually comes near the end.
Good luck!
