SMALL BUSINESS ENERGY AUDITS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Owen Sound – June, 2009.
Energy audits are now being made available at no charge for small business owners in Owen Sound. The Small Business Energy Efficiency Program is designed to provide small business owners with an assessment of their individual energy usage and provide the opportunity for discussion about monthly energy bills, comfort level and current heating sources. The program will also outline ways to save on energy costs while highlighting the energy savings the small business owner can expect by making specific upgrades.
Funding for the program is provided through the Ontario Ministry of the Environment’s Community Go Green Fund and supported locally by The Owen Sound and Area Business Enterprise Centre. Certified energy evaluators from the Elora Environment Centre will carry out the walk-through audits for this project.
During the audit, energy advisors Grant Jones and Shawn Powell will replace old lighting with a variety of energy efficient bulbs and provide an energy efficiency kit. The energy advisors will also be able to provide advice about grants available to assist small businesses in the areas of upgraded lighting fixtures and energy efficient heating and cooling systems.
Jane Phillips, Manager and Business Consultant with The Business Enterprise Centre, provides her perspective: “We are pleased to encourage small business owners to take the first step to practice conservation and provide them with the information needed to perform further energy saving upgrades. Energy saved equals dollars saved for the business owners and a diminished environmental impact which is good for everybody”.
Lynda Bausinger, Program Manager for the Elora Environment Centre adds, “Energy costs can be one of the single largest expenses for a small business owner. Substantial savings are available through upgrades to lighting and lighting fixtures as well as through other efficiency improvements.”
The Elora Environment Centre is a non-profit environmental organization dedicated to increasing community awareness on a variety of environmental issues and specializes in home energy evaluations. Their team of energy advisors carries out audits throughout south-central and south-western Ontario, from Tobermory to Windsor.
The Small Business Energy Efficiency Program walk through audits will take place from June until August, with the first 50 spots being booked for June 22-25, 2009.
The Elora Environment Centre would like to encourage any small business owner in the Owen Sound area who would like to benefit from the free walk through audit, to call Lynda Bausinger at: 519-369-1664 or by email: lbausinger@eloraenvironmentcentre.ca
