I've visited several stores (wireless wave, telephone booth, etc) looking for a new phone. While trying to sell me phones, the salesperson always throws in extra stuff. I've been offered waived activation fee and a bluetooth headset. What else can I negotiate for?

Great thread topic!

I'm getting ready to get a new iPhone as a new customer with Rogers, and want to negotiate the best deal too.

Free accessories is just fluff.

The monthly is what kills you.

The best thing to do is find an existing retention plan and take it over. This way you get a good plan from the get go and there is no activation fees etc.

There are lots of people selling these retention plans. The only down side is, no discount on the hardware.

Unfortunately, new customers only get the plans that are shown on fido.ca. Like the previous poster mentioned, the best bet is to get someone with a good retention plan to transfer their account to you.

if you buy someones retention plan can you keep the number you already have?

+1 there are plenty of people in the BST forum selling their plans.

You could try calling the retention number. Do a search for "Hot deal for Rogers Wireless Customers" in the Hot Deals forum. Yeah, it's meant for current Rogers customers, but I tried and got a retention plan as a new customer!

is one site where you can purchase contracts from others.

There was another one though, (I think a better one) anyone recall that address?

it's a very complicated process outline on Rogers Wireless part of HowardForums.
It involves 2 reps willing to do this. One rep is from department called Tables which handles releasing of numbers to general pool.
It's a split second process and both reps need to be coordinated to take the number as soon as it's released, or it will be gone forever.

Its gonna involved 2 reps.. 1 from Cx care, and one from paygo.. and your gonna have to buy a SIM

Step 1: change your number to a random number, something your friend wants

Step 2: Get that cx care rep to call Tables Dept and get the original number put back into public bucket. At this point anybody who wants a number has access to it so step 3 needs to be done ASAP

Step 3: Call over to Paygo activations, give them your sim, pick a random plan (there might be a setup fee or something, no idea with paygo) ask them to look for your number in the list of numbers in your area (they can do a manual search).. once they find it, theyll activate the paygo sim card and now you have succesfully moved your number to the paygo system with no contract

Step 4: ask paygo rep for your paygo account number.. give that to the other carrier

Step 5: TOR the contract number to your friends name

Tables is open from like 11AM to 3PM..MON to FRI something ridiculous like that and they only speak to csr reps. A word of advise... I would ask them upfront if they know about the tables dept. if not, I would suggest you get another cx care rep.

This is untrue now. Rogers can simply port the number from another company. I just did this 2 weeks ago.

I had an existing account with Bell that was still active. I took over my moms retention deal that I negotiated. Once the Rogers account was in my name I simply did a port from Bell. It took about 3 hours.

If it's on the same network its even easier, just a simple number swap.

I don't think you understood.
He wants to take over somebody's plan so he gets benefits of being long time customer, while keeping his old number that he has now.

Port is a simple process...yes.

You have a number, you take it to another company and become their client with your existing number.

The trick is like I said, to take over someone's retention plan at the same time.

That's exactally what I just did.

I had a plan with Bell(phone number 1). I wanted to move over to Rogers so what I did was..

Activate a paygo phone on Bell with a new number, swap my two bell numbers so the number I wanted to keep(phone number 1) was now on a paygo account and my old Bell account was still active.

I then called into Rogers for my mom and negotiated a new retention deal. I had that account which already had a phone number(phone number 3) transfered into my name.

Once the Rogers account with phone number 3 was under my name I called in again and had Rogers port phone number 1 from Bell into my existing Rogers account that had phone number 3. Phone number 3 was released into the pool and the original number I wanted ported (phone number 1) was ported over to Rogers.

edit: Now if rilhouse doesn't need to keep his existing account open there is no need for the paygo swap account.

Getting back on topic., generally speaking a new customer can't get much more than what you've mentioned.

Non-generally speaking...where there's a will there's a way. Just prepare to be met with a LOT of criticism possibly, and a lot of attitude lol.

Has anyone had any luck with using bundling as a strategy?

Eg: "I'm interested in becoming a new Rogers customer and getting an iPhone with you. What's your lowest data/talk plan cost? Now wait, I was also thinking of switching from my ten year sympatico internet service with Bell, over to Rogers cable internet. Now what's your lowest data/talk plan cost?"

They are different departments, bundling will not entice either department.

You negotiate the best deal in each department, then you bundle for additional discounts

In fact...if anything, the opposite result would happen when you bundle your services.

What are the chances a customer with THREE BUNDLED services will cancel ALL services if they're unhappy with one or two..or all three services. To go where? Comparatively, if you aren't bundled, and are dealing as an independant for Wireless *only*...or Cable *only*...you have a lot more pull relatively. Agents tend to be a lot more tight-wadded with *consolidated retentions*.
