Honda Canada & Acura

Presently I own a Honda but am thinking about buying an Acura. Acura has a $2000 loyalty rebate program right now (June) for those that presently own an Acura. Does anyone know if the Honda would make me qualify for the Acura rebate?

I really don't think it will. The strange thing is that knowing about this rebate that I'm not likely entitled to is turning me off making the purchase of an Acura. I will not be buying the Honda as they don't have want I want. Honda Canada could lose out totally.

You can buy a destroyed integra for a few hundred dollars, transfer the ownership and get the rebate. I was going to do that when I was considering a Honda.

btw, I have a junked up Acura Integra :D

has that rebate kicked in yet for older model cars? Combine that $2k with the gvmt rebate, a little haggling and you've got yourself an Acura at 10% above cost.

The loyalty program is only for new cars. Last month Honda had a $1000 program, I just didn't want a Honda. It's not that I don't like Hondas, they just didn't have what I wanted.

The loyalty rebate is only $1500. You can get an additional $2000 on a TSX, $4500 on a TL (base), $1500 on a TL (SHAWD) and $5500 on an RDX. The MDX had a rebate of $8500 last month but I don't know what it is now.

If you know someone with an Acura, the dealer might be willing to put both your names on the bill of sale. The address on the Acura's registration must be the one used on the bill of sale.

The info I have for June shows Trading Dollars/Factory to Dealer Rebate as $1500.
Loyalty Rebate/Factory to Consumer rebate is $2000.

This loyalty rebate from Honda Canada, as a long time Honda owner, is really turning me away.

It's for this reason that I'm considering to make my purchase from a USA dealer. I have an acura dealer wiling to sell right now. I almost purchased when the exchange rate was 1:1 . At that time the savings were 9K on a 2008 tsx. Also the US TSX's start with the premium package, no base model with cloth seats.

When all is considered GST/PST duty, shipping etc. you still save descent $$$'s even when the exchange rate is .92 . I'm waiting for the exchange to hit .95 before I purchase US $$$'s. Only issue is no warranty.
With 9K it's worth the risk IMO.

I'm buying through a relative so I wouldn't be paying full price in the US. Probably $700-$1000 above invoice.

My comparison is based on MSRP prices for both countries, you can easily get a TSX for $1000 over invoice in Canada (yes, I'm serious). The Cdn cash deal credit is from the manufacturer, it is not a dealer discount, you negotiate dealer discount on top of it. Also, you get full warranty coverage.

Based on the current $0.90 dollar (1 day ago, haven't checked today), it does not make any sense at all to import, all things considered. Also, I hadn't even counted the $1500 loyalty/conquest rebate yet either, & it already doesn't make sense to import right now.

No. It is to the dealer, not the consumer. It is up to them if they pass on it to you or not.

The best way to negotiate is to bring in a invoice/wholesale price report, show it to them & say "I want to pay $XXX over invoice". Adjust for factory rebates, they're from the factory & shouldn't affect how much the dealer can discount.

On the CSX, I'd aim for maybe $600 over invoice. There is a lot less markup on the CSX than TSX, so $1000 over invoice is a very good deal for them (the dealer) but probably not for you.

Agreed..also try reselling a US imported car. Your either going to lose big money or nobody wants to buy it. Most people prefer a CDN local market car.
