View Full Version : Do people still classify some cars as "Girls cars"?
originalnutta
Jun 3rd, 2009, 01:19 PM
Well i know they do, because Azn Riverdale seems to think a Lexus IS series is a "girl's car, lol".
Sure maybe in the 80's - 90's there were some cars that were primarily driven more by women than men. But how does that take away from the car being of quality build and value?
I don't care if Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana drives a Honda Insight, if it saves me on gas, and has a long running life, i'll buy it.
Maybe women are more cautious with their money, when it comes to cars :D, so they opt for a sensible, functional car. Like a Corolla or Civic.
With so many women on the road and such a variety of makes and models, how can anyone claim any new car as being a girl's car? I just think it's a bit shortsighted and ignorant.
lol.

Nevermind that a Miata is a great 50/50 weight distributed, solo2 car that rides on rails and has great potential.
And a Jetta, seriously? It's just an average sedan. I see lots of guy's driving them too.

A boxter is!

I don't think there really is a difference any more. Its more of a taste and functionality issue. There are alot of guys out there who appreciate cars like the MINI or Miata for their engineering and capabilities in terms of a sports car. However there are lots of guys and girls driving all sorts of cars these days as peoples needs varies in modern society.
tsxnation
Jun 3rd, 2009, 02:36 PM
Issue is it it's a boxter it's labelled a girls car regardless of whether it is the S or not even though the S is a fantastic machine. The cayman and cayman S suffer the same issue.
I agree with the base c class, 3 series being for posers who strip down the essence of a car to fit it into their budget when they can get a fully loaded lesser make for the same price. I wouldn't strip down a car just to fit it into my budget. No point in buying a 3 series equipped like a civic.
Georgie336
Jun 3rd, 2009, 02:41 PM
yes and no,
the beetle for sure is a girls car...
so is the miata, even though it's a great car with near perfect weight distribution and quite a bit of power for such a light car...I WOULD drive one, on a deserted road far away from home...
jasonkwan86
Jun 3rd, 2009, 02:42 PM
But honestly speaking, if I was presented with a amazing machine to drive around for a week, I would jump on it. I would not let people who say its a girls car get in my way. How many of you would?

Most ISs I see here are driven by guys...and by far the most common is the IS 250. So, it all depends on where you are. Personally, I couldn't care less what people think is a guys/girls car as long as it appeals to me. If you are concerned about what people think of your car, just buy the cheapest BMW 3 series or Mercedes E class, then you can blend in to the masses (err..I mean be "unique") and not have to be worried about getting caught in a "girls car."

The IS isn't a girls car, however girls like it.
Funny thing, I saw this list for Top 10 cars that gay guys buy. Out of the 10, like 4 or 5 were Volkswagons haha.
Boxter is a girls car because it's primarily driven by gold-diggin milfs.
Boxter S is a guy's car, however, it's usually for a guy going through a mid-life crisis.
a 911 is a man's car =]
The Miata seems to be recognized as a girl's car too but there are alot of male miata enthusiasts who mod/track/autox their miatas. so i unno.

Ford Mustang V6 Convertable - Even more of a GIRL'S car.

Volkswagon Jetta - Girl's car, though most of the girls I see driving them are pretty hot...

I no longer own the tsx. I have a rear wheel drive car. That doesn't mean it changes my stance on posers buying a base bmw 3 series with cloth, halogens, manual seats, etc...
BMW 3-Series doesn't come in cloth I believe, at least not since 2006.
IMO, people should just buy whatever they think is best for them, & not care about who thinks it's a girls car or whatever. I've been on Porsche, M-B, BMW, Lexus, Audi, Infiniti, forums etc & at some point or another, every car has been named as being a girls car by someone.

Leatherette. That really doesn't make a diff because civics comes with leatherette/leather as well (not sure if it's real leather). Obviously I'm not comparing a civic to a 328i. It was just mentioned to exaggerate the effect. You would never catch me in a barebones base model 328i.
With respect to the Lexus IS, I don't really feel it is a chick car. I can see how people can think that though.

I wouldn't say the TSX is a girl car. However, I've never been sold on the TSX. It's FWD and the price they are asking for is a joke for what is a Honda Accord.
As an aside, I really don't understand what Acura is doing with their vehicle lineup.
The new TSX will have the same engine as the TL, and the TL now has the same engine including AWD as the RL. So why buy an RL when you can get a TL. Why cannabilize your own cars? And the cars are all roughly the same size....wtf. Talk bout identity crisis and confusion.
Definitely not a Honda hater here as I've had Honda's. It sucks to know that Acura brand had a few years headstart over Lexus and Infiniti but is a dead last out of the 3 right now. Too bad they will always be known as pimped honda's or a lower tier bargain luxury brand till they get rid of the FWD joke cars that is the TSX, CSX and FWD TL.
Anyways, off topic. The Honda S2000 is a total chick's car.

I agree with you. The TSX is a crazy rip off for a FWD car. Had I not scored the deal I did in the states (used), I would never purchase a new one. Doesn't hurt that I sold it for more then what I paid after 2 years of use. I would never buy the new TL either even in AWD beacause of that horrid front end. The RL has nothing on the new TL so I have no idea how Acura can still justify it's existence.

Wow, you're just as snobby and pretentious as my friend except you're the poor version and drive a 3-series.
I have a buddy who owns an R8, and a CLS63 AMG. His next purchase is a Bentley. He considers people who drive 3, C or A4's total poseurs and won't discriminate whether you have a 328, 335..it's irrelevant. You're still a poseur. What's a few thousand, you'll still never afford a real luxury car anyways.
Which is true, most people who drive c's, 3, 4's or g37's are all just working stiffs who are slightly above middle class and think they are are somehow "better" cause they can afford the lowest end of the luxury brand. Hello! (not all just some, i think some young people tend to attach status to their car, old people could care less and have the maturity to realize your car is not a symbol of your wealth, these are just toys to play with.)
My point, there is always someone better than you, and there is no point in putting other people down. For the record, I drive an A4 Qtip, and yes I am a poseur with my underpowered 2.0T engine. =[]
You would never catch me in a barebones base model 328i.

Looking at it's specs, the max torque 162 is at 6800rpm? I'm not a car expert but wouldn't that mean it has really no power at the lower rpm range? I guess I prefer the german cars cause you can get max torque at lower rpm's which makes them fun to drive.

Based on this thread so far, I've concluded there are no cars under $100 K that wouldn't be named by someone as being a chick's car at some point. It's all too subjective, I usually see it most when people try to justify why they bought their car over a competing model ("I was also considering the _ but I just couldn't get it because it's a girl's car").

Hmmm. I would categorize these cars as (a) cars with significantly higher female demographics than typical - for a host of factors but most often due to design; and/or (b) cars that promise sportiness without delivering steering responsiveness or an engine that backs it up - sort of a cupholders vs cubes thing, you know?
Where you get high scores on each of the two going, is where it gets interesting.
I would most definitely not include the S2000 in the above. Nor would I include the TSX or most Lexuses. The IS250 is difficult for me to categorize - perhaps because it just looks (to me) like a smaller scale GS, I have trouble seeing its looks as appealing more to one gender than the other. But its engine's shortcomings would knock it off the short list of any enthusiast or "car guy" - and I think that's what I'm reading here. Ditto the V6 Mustang, etc. Don't know if I'd agree with these opinions but they are what they are...

So many things wrong with this thread...too much subjectivity, the way someone sees something (a car, a house, a colour) differs person to person. Also, so many estimated/anecdotal stats, just because you see 99% of X cars driven by a certain gender means it is universal? Probably not.
Bottom line, drive whatever you want. I for one, hope to one day own an Audi TT, Volkswagen Beetle or Mini Cooper.

lol..well the muscle cars are also mostly owned by geezers too...just geezers with a mid life crisis. So I wouldn't consider that attractive either.
what about the camaro, vette, trans am, charger, challengers and old muscle? all guy cars
the honda s2000 is a girl car, so is the sunfire, and civic, corolla, integra, echo, mini, smart,.....
the list is quite long.

You got it! and exactly, such a lame thread.
Between the chick cars, gay cars and geezer cars, it doesn't leave much choice for heterosexual young male. I guess pickup trucks are all that's left.

mid life crisis/geezer or not, vettes are bad ass. On a separate note i have never seen chicks in zr1s or z06s so definitely a dude safe car. Same with SVTs and old school muscle.

Interesting thread. Personally, I don't see many cars that I would label a chicks car other then a smart car and a beetle. Might be that I just absolutely hate the beetle and smart car look.
