View Full Version : Travel Midnight Madness sale at Westjet (Still going although officially over)

Jun 1st, 2009, 10:57 PM
(My apologies for the first of two cross posts. I already posted these in the travel forum, but figured some people who don't wander into that forum may be interested.)
I just got an email from Westjet, saying that they are having a sale the next five nights. It's scheduled from midnight to 6am Mountain time. That's 11pm-5am Pacific and 2am-8am Eastern.
They're saying select routes will be at blowout prices of under $100 one-way. This is for travel until the end of June. But of course, they aren't saying what routes.
The link (http://www.westjet.com/index_redirect.html?uripath=/guest/spare1.jsp?language=en) they provided, current just says coming soon.
So, for people looking to travel this month, Westjet may or may not be having a big sale the next couple of nights. :)
Edit: Just to clarify, it's starting tonight. As in about 3 hours from now.

Sucks to be people staying up in the east coast.
Shouldn't West Jet plan this sale beforehand instead of just pull things up last minute?

The email from Westjet stated:
Now here’s a reason to stay up late – or get up early – the WestJet Midnight Markdown.
Between midnight and 6 a.m. (MT) on June 2, 3, 4 and 5, 2009, make sure to check westjet.com because select routes will be marked down to blowout prices. We’re talking under $100 one-way folks, for travel until June 30, 2009, so if you were thinking of travelling this month this is the deal for you!
Visit westjet.com (http://www.westjet.com/index_redirect.html?uripath=/guest/spare1.jsp?language=en) for more details.
Seeing as how they are an airline, I really hope they can tell time. They better know that midnight to 6am on June 2 was earlier today.

Complete waste of time for me. Nothing for the east coast except a London-Halifax flight. No NFLD, PEI, NB or Quebec and out of Toronto you can only fly to Tampa or Thunder Bay.

The URL should be https://c3dsp.westjet.com/guest/newStepTwo.shtml but it's https://c3dsp.westjet.com/newStepTwo.shtml. Fail. I found a way to get it to follow through, but it gives the same crappy prices I get searching the usual way so maybe you don't have to use the "madness" link.

it's not messed up, the sale is only for select locations...for $59..
If you choose a location that is not on sale for $59 you get the invalid page...
don't use their booking system just click your city under...
Choose from any of these great departure cities:
then click the city they have a $59 sale for....
it's not what i expected too...but oh well

Actually, contrary to popular belief, Canada has other parts besides Toronto. For real. And these deals are helping everyone. Calgary to Vegas or San Diego for 59. Edmonton to LA for 59. You should get out a map, and look at the country of Canada. You may want to stay seated, as you will be for quite a shock once you see that Canada extends west of Toronto.

While what Jayro said is not true (i.e., that these deals were not helping anyone), there is no point trying personally attack another poster or anyone living out east.
Actually, what you said is not true (i.e., it benefits everyone) either when I think of it. First of all, this WS "sale" is for flights on Tues-Thurs only, so it would not necessarily benefit those who work on those days. Secondly, if I was to put on your hat, I could also easily say to you that "everyone" referred to in your post should include "everyone" living in all the cities WS flies to. Since that is not the case, either you should get a map so that you know Canada extends east of AB or you should find out where exactly WS flies to.

+1. These are good deals for a demographic that generally gets charged much more than what's fair simply because the airlines can (or at least could until very recently). Flights from Grande Prairie to Calgary were often +$500 (sometimes reaching $800) which is outrageous for a 45 minute flight that is fully for most trips. It is nice to see a few deals out west. I am sure that the cities will change tonight.

For tonights sale, if anyone is interested, the prices are $39 one way before tax.
Some hightlights:
Toronto <-> Montreal, Ottawa, or Quebec
Calgary <-> Kamloops, Kelowna or Saskatoon
Edmonton <-> Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie, Kelowna, Saskatoon
Vancouver <-> Kelowna
Winnipeg <-> Thunder Bay
(Actually unless I missed some, I think this is all the flights. Both sides of the round trip are available. )
Nothing further east of Quebec. Air Canada seems to be price matching many of them, the same as last 2 nights.

How the heck are you guys able to get the cheaper prices?
The lowest I can find from GP to Calgary and back with this so called sale, for any day in June is $189/$209+fees each way. To Edmonton and back, $159/$169+fees.
Cheaper to drive 8 hours with stops, than it is to fly 64 minutes. :mad:

Just so people know, Westjet extended the time when you can purchase these fares.
You can now buy them until midnight (Mountain) tonight. That's 2am Eastern and 11pm Pacific. After that, there should be one more day of sales.
As well, Air Canada is matching the sale prices. You can find the thread on todays Air Canada sale here (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=746781).
And Air Canada is allowing you to fly other days than Tuesday-Thursday for an extra $10. Westjet seems to now have matched that.
asdfvcx
Jun 6th, 2009, 02:11 AM
Westjet has their final night of midnight madness up. They're claiming the seats need to be booked by 6am Mountain (8am Eastern, 5am Pacific).
If the pattern holds, Air Canada should soon be matching these prices. I checked a few seconds ago and they weren't yet.
All flights are $99 one way before fees and taxes. Flights must be taken before June 30, and seats are only available Tuesday-Thursday. Air Canada has been offering them on other days for a bit more the last couple of nights.
Calgary <-> Fort McMurray, Halifax, Montréal, Yellowknife, Orlando
Edmonton <-> Halifax, Montréal, San Diego
Toronto <-> Kelowna, Fort Myers, Las Vegas
Winnipeg <-> Las Vegas
Some really good deals tonight.
Edit: Like the other nights, Westjet appears to be offering tickets on the many of the other days of the week (Fri-Mon) for an additional $10.

Wrong :rolleyes:
If you (and Bimselsteiner) followed the prices precisely this past week and noticed the time of my post, you (and Bimselsteiner) should have noticed that my post that you quoted was before the additional $10 weekend fares were offered (first by AC, then by WS). Technically speaking, the midnight madness sale was advertised as a Tues-Thurs day of week travel only - so the flights for $10 more were technically not part of the sale.
So at the time of my post you posted, I was correct. Even if one can consider the Friday-Monday fares a "sale", what you said is incorrect with respect to fares made available by WS on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning.

I just noticed that even though the sale is officially over, Westjet still is offering some of the sale prices from last night. It's only scattered over a couple days, but you might be able to find something.
As well, it appears Air Canada is now doing a bit of price matching as well, with the same prices on some days on some of the same routes.
