i'm kinda curious about this as well. i like the reviews and the way this suv looks.
would be interested in ccc report as well as good dealers in toronto?
i am not really keen on leasing a car, and would prefer to finance. however some people are saying german cars can get very expensive after 4 years. I am used to buying japanese and wondering if there is any truth to this. I'd rather not lease if i didnt have to.

We were looking at GLK while car shopping as it was in the same price range as Lexus RX350, but instead decided to go with the Ml350 last week. I’ll post a few CCC reports I pulled up while car shopping.

Audi Q5 is the class winner by far! Look it up, Motor Trend and Car and Driver named it number 1!

This is just a huge coincidence as I was going to make the same exact post. I absolutely love this vehicle and have made an appointment for this Saturday to test drive it. So there is a 3k difference between the dealer cost and retail price.
I have read on the mercedes forums that most people are getting 2k off msrp. Personally I am looking at getting the 2010 GLK with the following options:
-bi-xenon - $1000
-premium package - $3500
-sport package - $800
-navigation - $1800
-HK audio - $1000
-ipod interface - $375
-rear view camera - $450
-keyless go - $1000 (available on units produced in june)
-winter mats - $200 which I will just ask to be thrown in
-extended warranty - unsure of the cost (but from what I have read, there is a lot of play in this area) - my guess would be that it is about $2500
The options for me add up to $9925 MSRP without the extended warranty. I'm not sure how much I will be able to get taken off the options.
My thinking is that since most people got 2k off of the 42k msrp which is approx 4.75% off msrp. If I translate that verbatim irrespective of whether the same percentage can be applied to the options, I should be able to get the options discounted by about $500 which brings the total to $9400.
Therefore $9400 + $39 800 = $49 200. This is just a balpark figure that I would be looking at on the top end. If anyone has a CCC report for a fully loaded GLK I would really appreciate if you could post it.
I have set my mind on $50k as the upper number inclusive of the extended warranty and winter mats. Hopefully it works out for me!

I personally do not like how the Audi looks. If I do not like how it looks, there is no way I would waste my time going into the dealer to test drive it, negotiate a price, etc. The GLK is entering a class occupied by the X3, RDX, Q5 and looks quite unique. Additionally, for a fully loaded Audi, the cost differs by about 10k if not more. Obviously I do not want to debate the Audi VS GLK mainly because I do not know enough about the Audi. My opinion (based on looks, cost, prestige) puts the GLK ahead of the Audi. That is my opinion and is in no way bashing the Audi.

I am currently getting a new car, wanting something different. I looked at the GLK in the process but decided the ML would be a better deal if I were to get a SUV, probably the blutech. Try to sit in both and compare, to each his own I suppose :) I have gotten quotes from dealers already, if anyone needs more info send me a pm.

I think a lot of ppl have bought a GLK lately--since MB introduced it, it's been their 2nd best seller!
However not sure if many RFDers would have bought one given you're supposed to stick to a Civic, Corolla, around here  Try finding a Canadian MB forum maybe?
Personally I like the Q5 better too (the interior of the Q5 kills the GLK, it's Torsen-based Quattro is superior to MB's 4Matic, Audi don't use "leatherette", etc.) but there's nothing wrong with the GLK per se, either. The only thing is it seems kinda low-ish for an SUV to me, but that probably doesn't matter for most people buying these vehicles these days.

I prefer the MB Tex to leather, especially when transporting pets or kids. MB Tex is very durable.
Be realistic about discounting at MB. I have had some success as a repeat customer, but they general attitude (with GTA dealers) is that you should be so lucky as to be allowed to buy a Benz...

This is true. If you do not intend to take 'care' of the leather, MB Tex is the way to go. I don't do anything to the leather inside the car, and the leather inside my 2yr old SLK is starting to look worn. By contrast the MB Tex in the 3yr old C still looks brand spanking new.

I knew that, but I meant compared to vehicles in the same class it seems low. It may not be any lower than say an X3 (I never measured it or looked up the specs) but it just seems like it.

I personally hated the way GLK looked on the Mercedes website but to my surprise when we went to buy our ML it looked quite nice and the price is very reasonable considering it’s a Mercedes. Even though I haven’t really compared the Audi with the GLK simply because I was set of getting the RX350 until we got the ML350, I feel your advise here is biased as you work for Audi.

Well the GLK brings a nicer look and the Mercedes brand. Just did a google search and found this line from the article (http://www.worldcarfans.com/9080609.017/bmw-x3-is-afraid-of-mercedes-glk-but-not-audi-q5)quite humorous.
"A typical BMW customer is not going to move down to a Q5. There is more chance that they would go for something like a GLK. Just because Audi will price the car in the premium segment does not make it a premium vehicle," the spokesman said.
But again as I said I really don’t know the details about the Audi, but from a buyers perspective the Mercedes badge does make the deal for GLK sweeter.

That is like saying "I buy a B class because it is a MB". Can you imagine a FWD MB, or should I say PT Cruiser.
Regardless, MBs will always sell because of the badge, no argument there. But that is for the narrow minded people.

The cons of the GLK according to reviews
-soft steering
-underpowered (still more then q5 i believe)
-doesn't handle as well as q5
The pros of the GLK
-it doesn't look like a jellybean
-is reasonably priced
-it's a mercedes
-looks very unique and doesn't blend in with the rest
Credit should be given to Audi for developing a killer Q5, however with uninteresting and tired styling along with its inflated price (compared to glk), it's not even a vehicle I considered.
Since it seems the Audi employee wants to crap on this thread, lets be frank. The Q5 is hideous. It looks exactly the same as their entire line up in terms of styling, but they managed to make it look like the mazda cx-7 with respect to the overall general bubble shape.
Now, I have not driven the GLK yet and will post my comment of the driving experience. On paper is has won me over. I have already test driven the Rdx and X3 (both which I have eliminated as possibilities).

I wont post a reply to this comment, but just wanted to give you some free advice. There are MANY successful threads on RFD where a hardwood specialists, garden specialists, Dodge/Chrysler salesperson etc. has contributed with great information and advise. But reading your replies with “Buy Audi or nothing attitude” doesn’t sound like you’re here to help but rather just get people to contact you and give you the sale. Good luck.

The GLK borrow from the GL and the G wagon if anything. I guess I can see how someone could see the forrester in the styling. I agree with the above poster...not only are you just trying to bash this model, you are losing prospective buyers who maybe have purchased a q5 from you. I know that after reading this thread I would never purchase from you even if I was interested in the q5. Better to be constructive then trying to be smart.

Would I be narrow minded if I looked at a purchasing only Honda or Toyota because of their reliability? I would consider that smart.

IMO isn't really necessary, it's pretty clear the post is opinion...
Would I be narrow minded if I looked at a purchasing only Honda or Toyota because of their reliability? I would consider that smart.
I would consider that stupid for believing stereotypes that say Honda and Toyota are any more reliable than other brands out there, but this is beside the topic anyway.
As much of a fan of MB that I am, I am really disappointed in the B class. It is unfair to compare the B to the PT Cruiser, because I feel the PT Cruiser is BETTER. If only they would take refunds...
x2, the B-Class is the biggest POS I swear LOL. It's the only car I've been in that looks like a car from the outside but suddenly feels like a truck/SUV the moment you get behind the wheel. And by behind-the-wheel I mean not even driving it, just sit in one and you'll know very quickly what a junkbox this "car" is
Anyway I feel there is no point to start bickering about the Audi. While I love most Audis myself (and have already mentioned I prefer the Q5 to the GLK), there is no sense in starting stupidness with the OP... They already said they like the GLK more and gave reasons. I think the GLK is competent enough and a nice vehicle in it's class, there's no reason to bash it or continue to push the Audi on the OP.
Edit: I actually didn't realise that tsxnation wasn't the OP, but the same applies nonetheless--no need to argue about subjective issues.

Another member on here, "mmhassa2", referred me to Simon at Mercedes-Benz Markham. Even though we didn't settle on the ML, Simon was a pleasure to deal with via email. Most salesmen, especially M-B, won't give a email quote other than MSRP. I told him that someone who recently got a ML from him referred me, & within 10 mins of my email, he replied back with a great quote.
From what "mmhassa2" said, he didn't have to haggle with him to get a great price, Simon volunteered it (in person, not via email). Guys like that deserve our business, guys who don't make buying a car an ordeal.

I’m glad you had a good experience with Simon. As I have said many times while car shopping I absolutely hated having to go through dealership after dealership negotiating prices. When hubby called around to get quotes on our Ml350, only two other sent him an quote but it was basically what the MSRP was. Simon actually gave a number we can very well work with and gave us a reason to go to his dealership versus some other Mercedes dealership. Funny thing, we live in Ajax and our nearest dealership is a 10 min drive yet we felt more comfortable driving all the way to Markham and do not regret it for a second.
I still cannot believe we spent literary about 10-15 mins at the dealership buying our car. Simon was straightforward, yet very polite and got us the price we wanted and even threw in come really nice Mercedes accessories like teddy bear for our daughter, water mug, umbrella etc. LOL I picked out the weirdest stuff but it was nice to be able to go home look at the catalogue and email him my list.
Another thing I noticed was he’s there from opening to close, or whenever his clients wants to come in which I found quite impressive. Simon is definitely someone we will be referring to our family and friends who might be in the market for a Benz.

hilarious photos.
I'm pretty sure the Q5 has a better interior than the GLK350.
But I dont like SUVs which just look like a bigger car/hatchback.
Unfortunately there are many on the market right now. Obviously a large section prefers them.
This is where many people are moving towards the GLK. I think it looks great, slightly boxy, but not extreme (ugly to me) like the Honda Element. The price is pretty good too.

If the q5 was 10k less (equally equipped to a glk) it would be a tougher decison. At which point I would be stuck between the two as one has looks like like and the other one performs better. Since this is not the case, the decision is quite easy.

I prefer the Q5 over the GLK.
And I wouldnt ever put a badge in a "Pro vs Con" when looking to buy a car...
But if the OP really likes the GLK better, then good luck with your purchase!

It seems a lot of people here don't get out much. Audi is beating both BMW and MB in many markets around the world and has double their sales in others. It is only a matter of time until that happens in NA.

Not in the current market. Regardless, the popularity of a brand or how well it sells would not sway my decision. For me its a cost benefit analysis. Is the Q5 worth an extra 10k? Not for me. Why not step up to an X5 or ML or Cayenne or Touareg instead considering neither the Q5 or the GLK have stellar fuel economy. I would be in a TDI touareg without a second thought if I was willing to pay another 10k.

That's right by the Yorkdale Volkswagen. You can see the top of the dealership under the Mercedes billboard. I don't recall a billboard on the right side of the street to have the Audi ad there and I doubt Volkswagen (Audi ) would not lobby to have the Mercedes ad removed/replaced.

I thought the difference was $5 K? Anyway, I'm not saying either car, just that I think they're priced closer than $10 K if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah, that's until Audi posts their next billboard which shows sales numbers
(Well actually I'm not sure what their sales are like in the US, but in Canada I'm pretty sure they are kicking the behinds of both MB and BMW ;) )

Uh, not even close?
Audi's sales have dropped the least in percentage terms, maybe, but that's just because they started out with the lowest sales and just facelifted all their models recently.
The one thing I heard was that EU sales of the A4 had overtaken that of the 3 series at some point in the last few months, which was a suprise, but the brand as a whole is still much smaller than the others.
