Is the 2120 any good? What year are the maps on it?

I need another GPS as my LG LN740 has old maps(2006) and LG want $$ for updates. Unless someone knows a way to update those maps :cheesygri

Seen a couple of each of these at the Bayers Lake store in Halifax last evening.

I'm running Navigon and it's the best Navigation software around with great
3D maps.
The unlock code is in the user menue ''About'' on the GPS unit.

Is it a good choice? I mean in comparison with Garmin Nuvu 255 W, or Magellan?

Can't beat Garmin !! Own it for over 4 years and upgraded to the new Nuvi 255 recently.....

I`ve never had a GPS that wasn`t a Garmin. Been using a Nuvi 250 I got from TSCC for $90 last year, and haven`t had any issues with it... was looking at reviews of this 2120 Max and it doesn`t seem like a big enough upgrade (and downgrade in some respects) to warrant pulling the trigger and giving the parents the `old` GPS yet...

Gotta love technology...

The lifetime traffic feature is tempting but I heard Navigon is getting out of the consumer GPS market. They had trouble competiting with Garmin and Tom Tom apparently. What that means is map updates will be limited unless you can hack these units and flash other GPS software on it.

Navigon is leaving North American market and how are you going to upgrade anything if they are not in business?

How does this compare on hardware specs to the Omnitech that was recently discussed. It seems both can be equally hacked (from a quick look on google). I just picked the Omnitech up, and still within the 30 days window.

I just bought the 2120 non-max version, but I can't activate the free real-time traffic service since the activation website is asking for an activation code which I can't find anywhere. Does anyone know where it is? Thanks.

(nedjel: there is no "About" in the menu on my GPS?)

I just got the 2120 as well w/ 2 year protection plan ($10) from Staples since there's a lot of reports of the gps flaking out. I also did not find any activation codes for traffic, zaggit or map updates. I don't think that the 2120 gets those.

Otherwise, the unit is a very good gps. If you're looking for a no frills gps to help you get where you want to go, then this is a great choice for $100. It has a really user friendly interface, TTS and a 3D view that pops up on complicated interchanges (which is so useful, never miss or take the wrong exit again). I've never seen the 3D view on any other unit and I can't imagine why other manufacturer's don't copy it.

The only advice would be to download the software update from navigon.com since it does speed up the user interface and updates the maps to Q2 2008. My only complaint is the suction mount doesn't really work on curved windshields (then again, they rarely ever do), so I'll probably buy a bean bag mount for it.

If you guys got the non-Max versions I found a hack to get lifetime traffic.

Don't ask me if this works as I don't have a Navigon.

"Found a way to get free traffic
https://www.navigon.com/site/us/e...gistration
Goto navigon website, create an account there and register a 2120max gps.
(just pretend you own one)
After you have register it, website will say that the 2120max unit qualifies for free traffic activation, and prompts you to enter the product ID.
Follow the instructions to retrieve the product ID from your Navigon 2100.
Then the activation code will be show on the website, and email to you also.
Follow the instructions on screen to enter the activation code on your Navigon 2100. That's it! Your unit now has lifetime traffic!
Do this quick. This is a temporary loophole in their website.
This used to work using 2100max unit, and they have shut that down. It won't be long before they shut down this loophole."

Let us know if this works.

I own the 2120 max and its the best GPS I have ever used never lets me down and the maps are really accurate. I have no complaints at all. This thing took me all the way from Ontario to Florida without a hitch.

Nice graphics on the Navigon, I have it on my modded GPS.
The only thing that irks me is it has me turn down a street that is not connected to my home street at all, and I have the 2009 Q2 maps.
I usually switch back and forth between Navigon and iGo. The search function is more intuitive on the latter.

Good deal if you are just using it for a GPS, but if you want to use it for mp3's or .avi's, you may not want to purchase. From what I can tell, it does not appear to have bluetooth or an audio jack. Bummer.....I was all set to go and get one.
