your not going to see $149 for a long time, next summer promo coming up is 179, so closest to 150, your looking for boxing day to get $100 (which you have to line up very early to get) or else 179 is the best your going to find.

getting a little off-topic here, the problem i find with buying a rogers box instead of renting them is that when it dies (and they do, i've replaced at least one per year since i've been with Rogers), you're pretty much on your own, as opposed to being able to just take a defective rented box back to a Rogers store and getting a replacement, no questions asked.

you have horrible luck or you abuse your equipment. I would never rent. 18 months at this price, and its paid off. Anything more, and your ahead of the game.

Not so fast.. I have this in PDF, and I'm pretty sure this is still applicable if you ask (they don't publicize it) Rogers:
DIGITAL SET-TOP BOX
EXTENDED WARRANTY
(ONTARIO)
This extended warranty (“Extended Warranty”) is provided by Rogers Cable Inc.
(“Rogers”) to Ontario customers (“Customers”) who: (i) purchase a new or
refurbished Scientific Atlanta 2000, 3000 or 8000 series standard or high
definition digital set-top box (“Digital Box”) from Rogers™ or one of its
authorized retailers (“Retailer”); (ii) pay to Rogers the applicable monthly
extended warranty fee set forth below (the “Extended Warranty Fee”); and (iii)
subscribe to Rogers Digital Cable™.
Eligibility Period
In order to be eligible for this Extended Warranty, Customer must request
activation of this Extended Warranty within ninety (90) days from the original date
of purchase of the Digital Box from Rogers or Retailer.
Extended Warranty
Rogers warrants to Customer that the Digital Box shall be free from defects in
workmanship and materials, under normal use, for the earliest of: (i) the lifetime
of the Digital Box, (ii) the date on which Customer cancels payment of, or fails to
pay when due, the Extended Warranty Fee, (iii) the date on which the Customer
sells, transfers or otherwise disposes of the Digital Box, and (iv) the date on
which the Customer cancels his/her subscription to Rogers Digital Cable (the
“Extended Warranty Period”). Rogers’ sole obligation under this Extended
Warranty shall be, at Rogers’ option and expense, to replace or repair the Digital
Box. Rogers warrants any replaced or repaired Digital Box through the end of
the Extended Warranty Period. Customer acknowledges that any Digital Box, or
component parts or accessories thereof, that are retained by Rogers following
replacement or repair become the property of Rogers. Any replacement Digital
Box provided to Customer may be new or refurbished. Proof of purchase is
required to replace or repair the Digital Box. This Extended Warranty is not
transferable. Customer may cancel this Extended Warranty at any time by
contacting Rogers at 1-888-ROGERS1.
Extended Warranty Fee
The Extended Warranty Fee is $1.99/month per each Scientific Atlanta 2000 or
3000 series Digital Box and $4.99/month per each Scientific Atlanta 8000 series
Digital Box. The Extended Warranty Fee shall be billed by and payable to
Rogers on a monthly basis. Failure to pay the Extended Warranty Fee when due
will cause this Extended Warranty to expire and be of no further force or effect.
Rogers reserves the right to change the Extended Warranty Fee, upon notice to
Customer.
I haven't tried subscribing to this myself, but for anyone who has/is, feel free to chime in.

Why pay $399 when you can rent an HD PVR for free from Rogers. They are not that great anyways.

Yup. We're way too smart and cheap for a "deal" like this.
