I was pulled over for doing a U-turn in Fargo ND. The cop said in the Fargo law (whatever he called it), one can only make a U-turn when there's a 'U-turn allowed' sign. I thought one can't make a U-turn when there's a 'u-turn not allowed' sign. I saw some 'U-turn not allowed' signs in Fargo but no 'u-turn allowed' signs. I never even seen one in my life (only been to few contries though). It's only $20 bucks and I don't plan to drive 3 hours just to appeal the case. Just want to know if he was bs'ing. Thanks.

Difficult to say, as the state traffic laws may indicate one thing, but a local county or town have have offences for this with less expensive penalties like this $20 ticket.

You did not indicate if this was a state highway, or whether the officer was local or a state trooper.

But a quick Google search pulled up ND traffic code, which is similar to Ontario.

39-10-36. Limitations on turning around.

1. The driver of any vehicle may not turn such vehicle so as to proceed in the opposite direction unless such movement can be made in safety and without interfering with other traffic.

2. No vehicle may be turned so as to proceed in the opposite direction upon any curve, or upon the approach to or near the crest of a grade, where such vehicle cannot be seen by the driver of any other vehicle approaching from either direction within five hundred feet [152.4 meters].

I was driving in the city. There were 2 lanes going straight and one turning lane. Same with the opposite traffic. Made a U-turn at the light when there was no traffic on the opposite direction. My guess is he was a local police, not 100% though. I am just gonna stop making U-turns in places I am not familiar with. lucky it's only a $20 ticket.

It was probably the equivalent to a local by-law offence here, so the small fine.
