waiting for my rig to show up from ncix, and trying to decided what to do in regards to the video card.
before my desktop died, I had just recently bought a 9800GT from ncix.
I was wondering if I should just buy another 9800GT (possibly used to save some money) and just SLI them.... thats one option
another option was just to try and sell my 9800GT and buy one single better card.
I could only sell my 9800GT for maybe $80-100, then plus the money I was going to spend on a new 9800GT, so $130.
is there a single card for $230ish that would beat two 9800GT's?

GTX 275 beats 9800GT SLI, but it's $250. :lol::lol::lol:

I'd pick up a GTX 275 (or better yet, a 4890) and ditch the 9800GT. It's really not that great of a card...
Putting multiple mediocre cards in SLI or Crossfire really isn't a great solution.

but those 2 cards are much more expensive then 2 9800GTs. I'm trying to figure what what the best option is dollar for dollar.

your performance does not double with SLI. It ranges from 20% to 50% increase depending on the game. I would rather just buy a new card.

There is also the GTS 250 you can purchase.

a 4890 will walk all over 2 9800 gt's .... As others have pointed out SLI/CrossfireX only scales 20-60% more preformance on average & in certain games that have the "profile" to utilize a SLI or Crossfire graphics sub system.

What games are you playing that the 9800gt can't handle? It will give us a better idea of your needs.
I tend to favor single card configs as well. SLI/crossfire is rarely worth it, and the bugs can be overwhelming.

well nothing yet, but the games are not running on maxed out settings, which I Want to be able to do once my i7 gets here in a few days.

Sell the 9800GT and get yourself a 200 series card.

Why don't start by seeing if their is a satisfactory improvement with the new CPU, then look at making a purchase.
Too bad you didn't post a week ago. I would've gladly taken the 9800gt off your hands for cheap, as I just paid 100$ for one myself.
