Hi
I'm looking to buy a fast computer i.e. Core i7 with a decent amount of ram (4-8GB) and an HD capable video card. I live in Vancouver and am looking for a good deal. Where should I buy from?
Sincerely

Future Shop / Best Buy should both be off the map because they sell mostly HP plastic garbage with huge markups.
You can use NCIX to buy parts from them or DirectCanada but make sure to put the PC together by yourself. Putting together a whole rig will take you no more than 30 minutes.

ATIC, if you liked being ripped off and treated like dung.
NCIX or Anitec if you don't.

I bought all the parts to my $2600 gaming rig from NCIX there prices are great (they have a pricematch feature) and shipping is very reliable. My only problem was that my CPU cooler was backordered and it took to long so I eventualy switched to a different brand which was hassel free. Also, if havn't built a computer yet it will take longer than 30 minutes. It is best to go slow, read things on the internet while your doing it and if possible have someone who has already built one over to help you. It seems daughting at first but everything fits where it shouls and if it doesn't then it doesn't go there. Really you jsut need to be casous about static electricty and stupid mistakes. Read your manuals.

NCIX forsure you can buy your parts custom there and there is option for $50.00 to have them build it for you also don't forget buy the $10.00 NCIX gift card for $10.00 UPS shipping. If your going build it yourself use Direct Canada because lower prices and you get free Purlator shipping with orders over $300.00.

Future Shop is if you're: a) looking for something at the bottom end; b) never want to upgrade anything besides RAM, HDD, and/or DVD.
For custom builts, I try to split my money between Anitec and NCIX.

For BC residents, newegg.ca will be cheaper since you get dinged with the provincial tax.

Overall, NCIX by far.
I wouldn't say they're the greatest, but Price Matching and being local certainly brings them to the top.
This is assuming you intend to -build- the computer (or have them build it).

I got my rig customised and built at extreme-pc.ca. Their component prices seem to be similar if not better to newegg and ncix, and the computer is built and shipped usually within 3 days. Personally, I lived close enough to their Guelph location to pickup, but I've heard from other customers that their shipping is cheap and fast. You can also take advantage of their Zero Day specials over a couple of days to get some or all of your components on the cheap. I saved $50 on my rig - paid ~$750 for a built dual core athelon rig with a 4850 card, 4gb ram in a metal see-through LED case. (No OS since my schools gives me a free copy, I later on added an $80 modular PS that came from Canada computers)
Also, they have a 1 year parts and 5 (!!) year labour warranty included free.

$750 for a dual core athlon w/ 4850 seem a bit steeps for price as for the PSU, I bet it's a OCZ.

Give Anitec a try. At least your in a store, instead of stuck looking at a computer screen at products. You can actually pick stuff up (IE pull a motherboard off the shelf and look at the box) in Anitec.
I like NCIX when you know what you want, but they can be too busy and having all the stock in back rooms hidden away seems somewhat impersonal.

> Give Anitec a try.
Mind you, the guy lives in the Dunbar area, so Anitec might not be very convenient for him ... although if he's willing to go to ATIC, Anitec isn't that much further (Kingsway + Nanaimo).

This is true. NCIX would be his closest choice. I don't mind NCIX other than the standing there with a number in your hand for 30 mins.

What bugs me about NCIX is that you can't really do anything during those 30 mins....
With Anitec, you have a real store that you can browse and pick-up stuff.

ATIC is only ever good for using their prices to PM elsewhere. Anitec is far less busy than NCIX so if you need a personal touch, I'd go there.

Atic, Anitec, and NCIX all have their prices online. why not just surf their websites to find the one that's cheapest?
There's a good reason that Anitec & NCIX have expanded to larger locations over the past few years, while Atic is still in the same rathole they've had for 20+ years... people really appreciate the better service they get at the other shops.
