PSY100 isn't as easy as most people believe. I had Dolderman and he really emphasizes the importance of going to lectures cause he frequently has questions on the midterms regarding things discussed in lectures. So going to lectures is a must.
The meat of the course isn't hard to grasp, but it's definitely a reading-intensive course. If you don't read and really absorb the information you read, you're pretty much done on the midterms.

Plants weren't sexy enough?
BIO150 is not too bad. I enjoyed it (kind of...)

Neither PHL100 nor PSY100 are easy classes. If you want a guaranteed 80 in first year, take a seminar course. Most intro classes at U of T downtown are challenging.

I can assure you that many students get very high marks in these courses.
Whether you will be one of them or not is up to you. There are no guarantees, but you can get yourself into a very good position to do extremely well.
In addition, asking other people about the difficulty of a course is generally a bad idea. Strengths and weaknesses vary between individuals.

As for BIO150, I don't think it's too hard. If you're the type to be able to digest, *understand*, and remember that kind of material, an 80 is possible with work. Although I remember some of the test questions to be tricky...as in, they would manipulate somewhat minute details to confuse you. But of course this is pretty standard haha. Another thing, the labs were SUPER easy when I took the course in 07-08, so....prepare to be bored for like three hours every other week. ;) haha

This is very VERY true. I know people who have worked their butt off, just to get as bad of marks as someone who had only studied for like a night. So really try to evaluate your own ability! :)

I studied in UofT loooong time ago. For me, I always messed up the course which was labeled the 'easy' one and did well in course which is labeled as the 'hard' one. That is the one everybody said you could get an 'A' easily, I got a 'C'. The one everybody said you could fail easily, I got an 'A'.
My impression is easy or hard is really depended on how much you are better or worse than average of the class. If you do not take the real effort in the easy one (like I was), you can mess up like I was.

Is it the same thing with Urbszat? >:(

Look up who the profs are and find them in the Anti Calendar on ASSU site and ratemyprofessor.com.
Subscribe by email or RSS to Study Hacks: www.calnewport.com/blog. Buy his book: How to Become a Straight-A Student. I used it to get better grades (A+) with less time studying and much less stress vs the test before I did worse on (A-).
In terms of the courses you mentioned: depends on prof, your abilities, your interest and when you take it. I've taken PSY100 in the summer with Burianova, I found that easy, partly because I'm really interested in psych, partly because I knew a lot of teh stuff beforehand from my own reading, partly because it was her first time teaching it and she cut out stuff from the actual full year course, and partly because I do really well on multiple choice questions. So I did well in that course. I think I did get an 80-something
I took PHL100 with Kingwell. I liked that he used original texts (you read Plato, not a textbook on Plato), and I generally enjoyed the tutorials and classes. I didn't do too well in the course, though, because my essay writing skills failed me as well as the fact that I didn't realize how much integration was required, vs just memorization. That is, you don't just regurgitate things, you have to integrate them, see them in a new way, evaluate them and understand them. So I improved my ability to do both. Using Cal Newport's methods, you can make this step really simple and painless.
Srsly, buy the book. It's like 15 bucks at most bookstores. If you apply his stuff all through uni, I'm willing to bet you that you'll get at least a one grade higher GPA with less time and pain.

I hated Urbszat. Our tests were a lot harder than Doldermans!
Take the morning PSY class if you can.

ahaha, same here! I always cringe when the class average is high in any of my courses, as I tend to do more poorly, whereas when the class average is low, my mark is very high.

BIO150 was not too bad for me. I had the "Darwin-looking-prof" (forgot his name) teaching us evolution -he looooved Darwin.
Depending on whether you like Bio, if you did well in high-school Bio, you shouldn't have any problem getting an A on this course.
