The Apple Store has the Apple Wired Keyboard with Numeric Keypad at its regular price of 59,00$:

http://store.apple.com/ca/product/MB110LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDA1Mg&mco=NDE4NjM2NQ

For some reason, both Future Shop and Best Buy are trying to sell the same keyboard for, respectively, 79,99$ and 78,99$. I personally love this keyboard (I use one on my Mac Mini) and just replaced my Vista machine's keyboard with one. I price matched at Future Shop and got the keyboard for 58,09$ before taxes. While this isn't really a "hot" deal, it's decent for those in areas with no Apple Store - and, quite frankly, keyboards with dual USB ports are amazingly uncommon these days, for some weird reason.

Does not matter if you don't have a Apple store near you, Apple will ship it for free.

Yes, but if you want it *now* PMing is probably the best option :)

I think what he was getting at is for the sake of the PM, BB/FS might say that apple charges for shipping.
-Edit: Ehh scratch that. I didn't read OP thoroughly enough.
I hardly think that "They're not an authorized retailer" is a valid excuse for a product like this.

You gonna pay $60 for regular wired keyboard and call it a "good" deal. I would say $60 even expensive for a bluetooth one.

In Quebec we use comma "," instead of point "." to separate decimals. This is a french/ european standard. The rest of Canada should use them too, since we are a "metric" country. As well as we have to use centimeters and meters and kg instead of old pounds and inches.

It's not exactly a "regular" keyboard... it's made out of aluminum.

For that price, this is way overpriced like most Apple products. If it was closer to $20/30 I'd consider it. Right now I'll stick with my $9 Logitech

I'm not a fan of Apple products just because they might be well-designed, functional, sturdy, and have a great warrantee, but also because that space junk above is really, really ugly. Like I said, not just because the Apple keyboard makes that look like unfortunate debris.

Actually, both are metric system 'standards'. Most English-speaking and Asian countries use the point (period) notation. The SI (International System of Units) documentation itself uses the point notation in its English version, and the comma in its French version.

No offense, but that keyboard looks like it was designed by Pontiac in the early 1990's. I have to say I really like the Apple keyboard; it's nice-looking, quiet, sturdy (aluminum), surprisingly comfortable and doesn't take up half your desk. I agree this isn't a "hot" deal, but it's not an outrageous price either.

Yeah, that keyboard pictured above is one fugly piece of work.

I do have a Logitech Dinovo Edge for my HTPC though - And I think they did pretty well with that one. Mind you, it costs ~ $200 (well $272 at Best Buy).

I think it is safe to say that the G15 is for people who have LED backlit computer cases and overclocked CPUs. The Apple keyboard is for people who are (overly?) style conscious.

I've personally used both and, while nothing beats the available functionality of the G15, typing on the Apple wired kb is slick.

Also... I'm pretty sure 9/10 "extra" keys on most keyboards go completely unused. Volume controls are the only ones I'm addicted to.

Maybe the world is filled with 3 kinds of people: 1) people who think the g15 is cool; 2) people willing to buy an apple keyboard; and 3) people who'd never shell out for either of them.

I certainly understand the last two groups... I'm a #3 by nature, but reluctantly succumbed to #2 (it's worth it, and it's not entirely about fashion).

I have owned a G15, and I currently use an Apple Wireless Keyboard; both keyboards satisfied my needs at different points in my life.

The Apple keyboard is a great keyboard, good tactile feedback in a small form factor. I find ergonomically not having a number pad is great for my wrists/arms.

I totally agree. The lack of numpad is what drew me the apple wireless keyboard because I can naturally position the mouse where the numpad would be on the keyboard which minimizes the distance I need to move my arms to reach the mouse. It might not seem like a big deal but when you spend 8+ hours in front of this keyboard per day every little bit of comfort helps.

Plus I'm a big fan of the chiclet style keys on the apple keyboard now that I've used this for a few months. Easy to clean and smaller gaps under the keys means less crap can fall in.

Well with the wireless(bluetooth) version it is available without a number pad only. You are correct in that you can purchase the wired keyboard with or without the number pad.

The Logitech G15 is well designed, and by far more functional.

As far as a keyboard goes, they rarely break so it wouldn't matter if one was made of adamantium or a $10 keyboard, they're both going to last you so sturdiness isn't much of an argument.

Logitech warranty is pretty much superior to anything in this world.

Although, I'll admit that the apple keyboard gets major sex points.
(No, I do not own a G15 or any gaming keyboard of the sort)

This is a nice keyboard and works like a laptop touch key but even a devout fan man of Apple products, I have to say $60+ tax is a hard pill to swallow. If you're a potential customer of the DiNovo Edge then this is a pittance; and if you're a G15 demographic, this is like an expensive alu. with basic function keyboard whereas the G15 is loaded with everything you'd ever want or need. Taste is subjective which is why there are two different markets.

I bought a Cooler Master alu. KB back in the day for $40 and it is nothing compared to the Apple KB even though CM is a good competitor but didn't quite hit the mark, imo. Either way, Having owned all those keyboards I've talked about, I would say the best typing experience is the Apple KB. The DiNovo 1st gen/Edge feels like a cheap imitation to keyboard touch typing whereas Apple is the Goldie Locks just right type of feel.. not too soft and not too hard.

Hang on, do you mean an Apple made Wireless keyboard with number pad? Or do you mean a third party wireless bluetooth keyboard with a number pad like the Logitech S530 that works with Apple computers?

Because I'm pretty sure this discussion is about Apple branded keyboards, and unless I'm mistaken Apple does not make a wireless keyboard with a keypad.

But yes you can definitely purchase a wireless keyboard with a number pad for an Apple computer, I just wasn't aware that Apple made one themselves.

thats exactly what apple does. ppl who own apple stuff or wants it cause its" stylish" and "cool"

thats why your paying extra $1000 for a macbook thats an equivalent of a $1000 pc laptop.
in the end, your just paying the extra money to show off how " in trend" you are, you can be one of the cool kids.

remember. when apple first started out, their target market is exactly the suit strict and uptight business man.
i personally will only shell out my hardearn money for something that i think is useful. thats why i dont buy $500 gucci sunglasses cause i can be "style conscious"
srsly. tell me, why are the apple keyboard "stylish"?

That's one ugly keyboard... If a keyboard is made for functionality, it doesn't need all those ugly lights, colours and that ugly design to go with it. Why not just make it plain and functional.

There is no wireless aluminum keyboard with a numberpad. You'd have to find the old discontinued white Apple Keyboard Pro to go wireless with Apple. Apple hates accountants. ;)

Functionality is a question of relativity here.

This is a gaming keyboard for CS, Crysis, WoW and etc. Gamers usually play in the dark, even when it is bright and sunny outside, we put down our curtains just to get good contrast from the screen. Lighted keyboard is absolutely necessary.

Ugly design, really is a matter of personal taste. My keyboard's space bar is failing and A,S,D,W keys are wearing down, time to hunt for a new one.:cheesygri

You realize that you can buy 10 year old keyboards if you want, right?

Again, who cares if Apple discontinued something? As someone with a cartload of legacy products, I certainly don't. And you can find the one with the number pad easily.

And as a company with $10 billion cash in reserves, I don't exactly believe that Apple hates accountants...

Wow, talk about generalizing and profiling. Sadly, thanks to the iPod becoming popular and "trendy", Mac users who appreciate good design and quality are now mistaken for people who just want to be "one of the cool kids". Although I agree there are people in the latter group, let's not lump everyone in there.

I wish Apple's keyboard design team would talk to the mouse design team though. Those Apple mice are terrible!

As much as I love the built-in keyboard of my MacBook, I find the Apple aluminium keyboard to be a very very bad keyboard. Try typing on it for hours at at least 85 WPM, and you'll see what I mean. For some people it's okay. But for good tactile keybaords, I would recommend something like a keyboard equipped with Cherry switches.
