We were looking for affordable compact cars in an auto mall in CITYnotPREFERtoSAY, we hit the Toyota joint for corolla, then hit the Nissan joint for versa, and finally the Honda club for civic. We were walking around when we noticed just outside of the Honda lot, on a patch of empty field, parked 20 2010 Corollas and others with much cheaper sticker price than the ones we found in the Toyota lot.

The hidden Toyotas were 2 blocks away from the dealership and were right between Honda and Mitsubishi gang. Does anybody know why?

I just thought that they hid extra inventory so people would not try to nogiociate based on the fact that "you got too much junk in your trunk".

From what I know, many dealers have off-site car lots for their overstock. This is especially the case for dealers located in high traffic areas where prime real-estate is expensive. Needless to say, high traffic land on a main street is much more expensive than a secluded property hidden in a side street... so it makes sense if they're trying to save money.

Lots of dealers store inventory in various off site locations. For example, Chrysler at the old Downsview Airport in Toronto:

Also, a lot of dealerships have the same owner. It's quite possible that the Toyota, Honda and Mitsubishi dealerships in your area are all owned by the same company and use the same storage yards
