Hey
Has anyone here ever had a car alarm installed through Futureshop or Best Buy? They have a sale this week on a Compustar alarm for 179.99 and I am in the market to have one installed.
They are saying its free basic installation but what does that include?
Thanks in advance.

im just blowing smoke when i say this however i wouldnt put it past them.
basically basic installation prolly doesn't include cars that have engine immobilizer which needs to be bypassed for those auto starters. I think its the law now to have all cars with engine immobilizers.

I don't think my car has that feature. It is a 2000 model and the key is like a 90's era car key (without chip inside).

Yes I bought an alarm at future shop and had it installed. This was 3 years ago.
The alarm I bought also had a shock sensor, and sound recognition sensor (for breaking glass for example), and it also had a starter imobilizer, so if you turned the key while the alarm was on nothing happened.
The alarm was $200 but I forget how much they charged for installation. I do remember that they wanted an extra $40 to integrate the alarm with the power door locks and power trunk release but I declined.

My parents had 2 installed at FS (1 starter and 1 starter/security combo), but it was not a basic installation. They charged extra for the bypass.

My friend took his 1998 corolla to a Toyota garage for i think it was an oil change and they installed an immobilizer for free.
its a little black thing near the steering wheel that you have to put a special device into that unlocks the engine, then you can put they key in to start it.
Maybe honda will do the same?

After you have an alarm installed on the vehicle, call your insurance broker to find out if there is any discount available for having one.....
