I am not sure if anyone can answer this as maybe I need to talk to the dealership but I will try it here:

I am currently leasing a Honda Civic 9000km. I have approximately 2.5yrs left on the lease. $200/month then I can buy it outright for $xxxx or give it back.

What options do I have/flexibility.

I am interested in a different car at this time.

You could find someone to tkae over the lease from you.

Services like Leasebusters.com can help you with that (there are a couple out there, some free others you have to pay).

That is probably the simplest option for ya

Thanks. I guess that maybe better than buying the remaining months and then purchase outright-then resell?

What if I wanted to purchase another vehicle from the same dealership?

You can buy it out, and then resell it as a used car to the dealer you bought from or where you are planning on buying from. If you opt for the latter, you also get tax savings.

Dealers will often agree to buy the leased car out directly from the leasing company - no need for you to buy it first and then turn around and immediately resell it. I've done this a couple of times. However, it works best towards the end of the lease. With 2.5 years left you'll likely find that the buyout value is a fair bit higher than the car's trade value, meaning you're "upside down" and would have to make up the deficit yourself. Getting someone else to take over the lease would probably be the cheapest way to get rid of your current vehicle and get into something else.

Thank you! And it doesn't have many km so I am thinking it should be pretty easy to get rid of.

There are many dealerships that will use Leasebusters to help you get rid of your lease on the basis you are purchasing/leasing a new vehicle. Ask them and see what they say, we have a lot of Honda stores as On-Line Dealers.

I have the same situation except that mine only has 2 months left. What I'd like to do is since I only put 34k out of a 4 years accord, I want to find a buyer and make a profit of $500-$1000 rather than return the car to the dealership.
I wonder how complex the process is and if it's possible to do one ownership transfer only to avoid paying tax twice.

LeaseBusters Fee is $295.00 and is a one time fee. Some companies will not let you transfer your lease if its under 6 months. For a lease with 2 months left it would not be very easy to get someone to take it over. 10-24 is the ideal term.
