I was wondering if anyone here knew how to set up the iphone to track the TD e-series index funds using the "Stocks" program on the iPhone??

These are the codes that I got from TD's website:

- TD Canadian Bond Index: The fundamental investment objective is to maximize total return through both interest income and capital appreciation by tracking the performance of the DEX Universe Bond Index ("Universe Index"). The Universe Index is comprised of Canadian investment-grade bonds which mature in more than one year.

- TD Canadian Index: The fundamental investment objective is to provide long-term growth of capital primarily by purchasing Canadian equity securities to track the performance of the S&P/TSX Composite Total Return Index (“S&P/TSX Composite Index”). The S&P/TSX Composite Index is comprised of Canadian issuers traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX).

- TD U.S Index: The fundamental investment objective is to provide long-term capital growth by primarily purchasing U.S. equity securities to track the performance of The Standard & Poor's 500 Total Return Index ("S&P 500 Index"). The S&P 500 Index is comprised of 500 widely-held U.S. issuers.

- TD Int'l Index: The fundamental investment objective is to track the Morgan Stanley Capital International Europe, Australasia and Far East Index("MSCI EAFE Index"). The MSCI EAFE Index is a broadly diversified index consisting of equity securities of companies domiciled in developed markets outside the U.S. and Canada.

I've got the following on my phone:
- ^GSPTSE (seems correct for the Cdn index)
- S&P 500 (want this for the canadian currency instead of the us currency)

... are these the correct ones? How would I add the other two?

If you enter the stock symbols, you should be able to track it

e.g.
TD CDN INDX -E /NL'FRAC
TDB900

TD INTL IDX E SER/NL'FRAC
TDB911

You can look them up on TD e-series site (Fund Codes)

Apple uses Yahoo as their provider for stock and mutual fund quotes. Yahoo provides US mutual fund quotes, but it doesn't provide Canadian mutual fund quotes.

So what you have for the S&P 500 it as good as it's going to get, I believe. I don't know of anyway to get it to show the gain or loss in Canadian dollars.

For the International fund, you can use the Vanguard ETF with the symbol VEA as a close proxy. It follows the same index, but once again won't take into account the Canadian dollar.

And for the bond fund, you can use the Canadian ishares ETF with the symbol XBB.TO . It follows the same index as the eFund, and should behave identical except for a small difference in the MER.

Thanks :)
useful info, i hadn't really considered this until op brought it up.

i check up on things once in a while but i prefer the invest and forget method when I'm indexing in my rrsp's. Far less stressful. Still i should probably pay a little more attention on how things are doing.

If you had Android, which of course uses Google Finance, you would not have this problem :P

i didn't know that you can search google finances also for mutual funds (other than ETF). but i see there's 4 day lag for e-series prices.

My portfolio is built for retirement -- couch potato method. However, since I have the stocks program on my iphone, I thought I'd fill it up with something useful
