Hey guys! I need some serious help and/or insight with my situation, so please if you have any information, I'd really appreciate it. :)
I have a full year course with a final grade, that will put me on a 1 year suspension for the next school year. So with this grade, I can't go back to school for a year, but without it, I can. I've read the instructions on the U of T Arts & Science website, saying that I can't withdraw from a course past the last day of classes.
Now, I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with trying to petition for a late withdrawal from a course that's already ended? Do I even have a chance? :(
OR...would it be wiser to try to petition the suspension? does anyone have any experiences with that?
I'm stressing out so hard, seriously can't even sleep, so please lemme know if you know anything about this! :)

Hate to say this, but neither of your petitions will work. You would need to have like 3 deaths in your family and overcome cancer for a petition to go through at UofT.
I forget the site, but you can read up on petitions/appeals filed at UT and 99.9% of them get denied.
Your best option, if it is possible, would be to beg to the prof of the course to increase your mark (if you're only missing a GPA bracket). Other than that, you're going to have to suck it up and take the year loss. Learn from it mate, anyone who is able to get into UTSG Arts/Sci should be able to keep a 1.5cGPA.

Also, if you knew you were in rough shape why didn't you do a late withdrawal before you wrote the exam!!

sorry but you aren't utsg material.
since you didn't mention any personal issues I'm taking the liberty of being direct with you
withdrawing from a course that you already finished? That doesn't even make sense. Ask for exam remark since professors do not have authority to change your exam mark, only exam reviewing committee has.

Unfortunately you can only do a late-withdrawal from a course before the course is finished. Since you already finished the course and got your final mark, your best bet is to talk to academic counselor at your registrar, but there is very little they can do at this point to help remove that grade.

From what I recall, you have 1 week to withdraw after your final lecture. You wrote the exam and got a final grade, so they can't change anything. You really should've withdrawn earlier or deferred the exam. If you can avoid suspension by getting extra 2-3%.. beg the prof. If not, serve your suspension and think hard about your future in UTSG.

What are the chances of exam reviewing committee increasing your marks? Can it result in a decrease in marks as well?

At U of T, I once petitioned an exam. I wrote the exam, but was very sick during the preceding week, severely impacting my studying. I had a doctor's note.
They denied my petition.
Good luck!

The professor does have hte power to change your mark. He just has to submit a form to arts and sciences.

Of course it can decrease as well. Risky and not worth it unless you know they made a mistake. If you want more marks, your best bet is going to each one of your profs and getting them for an extra % or 2 to get you to the next GPA. Ask EVERY prof and hopefully enough help you out to get you over whatever cGPA you need.

Of course they denied your petition. Once you write an exam there is almost nothing you can do it get out of whatever mark you receive. No one forced you to write that exam, you chose to. If you never wrote the exam and petitioned to write a deferred exam then your petition would have went through no problem.

Im not sure what college you are in or who your counselor is, but i managed to use one of the 3 withdrawals (LWD??). I was given the form in july (after exams) and handed it in september (prof signed it with no problems) :o, but i still managed to get my mark dropped, showed up as wdr. Good luck!

The only other suggestion I have for you is to register for a summer class or two that are dead easy and then ace them. That will pull up your average for the term. It's probably too late for the first summer term, but you can register for any courses that are from July-Aug. Just make sure you get good marks in them. THat's you're only hope of avoiding suspension.

I doubt you'll be able to successfully petition. Sorry, but just being honest.

Yeah if your on probation go to summer school (jul-aug) and make sure your sessional gpa is above 60 () and that should be easy to do.

Oh my gosh!! really?? Well, I'm a part of New College...which college helped you do that? Could you elaborate on the process?
I'm going in to see my academic counselor on Monday, is there anything I should expect or bring up?
Please, if you don't mind, it would help a lot if you could let me know. :o Please PM me if you don't want to discuss it here. :)

Oh! So....well, right now, I think I'm considered suspended. Can I still take summer courses? I've never taken them, so I'm not sure how it counts into my cGPA...probably the same way as regular school year courses, right?

There are no deferred exams in engineering. They just assign you a grade on the exam. Apparently they believe that I am a ******, because the grade they gave me on the exam that I missed reflects that.
On this second exam, I managed to write it, but my studying was severely impacted. They told me that they rejected the petition because I did well on the exam. That's a pretty crappy reason.
Anyway, keep us up to date, OP.

Have you talked to your registrar? They're generally nice, empathic and on the student's side. Ask them your questions. Call your registrar and book an appointment with someone about academic issues.
I've gotten a few late withdrawls without academic penalty, but I have personal issues and I didn't write exams. The one course I did write the exam for, I didn't get the late withdrawl (and I didn't appeal it...to remind me to not be so stupid in the future).
Just apply and see what happens.

You can't register for summer. Standing is assessed at the end of the Winter session.
