If I'm entering UTSG through the compsci program, can I get a compsci and commerce major later on?
My dad and lots of his friends said yes. I called and emailed UTSG and they said no (maybe they were students who didn't know much about double majors?).
UPDATE : found out i'm not able to do this because "commerce" is a special program - just warning anybody reading this, call UT to make sure yourself

You have to check admission requirements. Some programs may have a condition that if you have completed 50% of your degree, you cannot enter the program.
It's like that for UTSC Management, not sure about Commerce. But its something that you need to watch out for.

Commerce is a specialist program.. is it not? Doing Commerce specialist + Comp-Sci major would take lots of work.

They are in different faculties: CS is offered through Arts & Science whereas Commerce is a separate faculty. Also, you would be working towards two separate degrees. Commerce leads to a BComm, whereas CS would lead to a BSc.
In response to the above post, at UTSG in Arts and Science you need one of:
a) 1 Specialist
b) 2 majors
c) 1 major + 2 minors
to graduate. If you choose to do a specialist + major you certainly can, and depending on how you choose them you can maximize the overlap. For example if you did a specialist in math with a major in "Physics and Computer Science" you would automatically have about 4 courses that overlap and would count for both.

Yes you definately can do this. But if you do elect to go the commerce major route, you CANNOT get a b.com. Only commerce specialists can get a b.comm. Since you are doing a major in science (comp sci) and the arts (commerce) you can either choose to graduate with a B.Sc or a B.A (you'll be given the option).
Since you've been accepted via the comp sci route, make sure you take the required first year courses for the commerce major. Which means, take ECO100, RSM100 and first-year calculus as electives on top of your required first year comp sci courses (pretty sure first year comp sci includes first-year calculus so you only need to worry about taking RSM100 and ECO100 as electives).
You'll be able to request enrolment into the commerce major after first year.
Also, I think your tuition will be higher (2x as high) because commerce tuition is higher than artsci. But it might not be since you won't get a b.com.
