Ummm......
4 lines of cocaine before every class?
But seriously, crackheads(or whatever) won't even last a week of work, let alone school.
Unless you're talking about marijuana......cause I can't think of anything else.

lots of business students smoke up every other day. Same with lots of UW engineers I know. It depends on the person some people know how to manage some don't. Used to have a friend who would goto the library for like 4-6 hours learn all his ****, then go home smoke a big bowl and get baked and watch movies.
Is there a particular reason you want to know this?

well since quitting weed for school, i sometimes crave it. actually i crave it almost everyday. I'm just wondering if its possible for me to keep smoking and do good in school. i'm just weak for mj. I miss it like i would miss a girl. actually, sometimes more then girls. i know its not for me tho. school + weed don't go together for me.

lol i came to the same realization after first year. My friends can handle the on/off switch, I could not. Likewise for many of my friends.

Dope isn't addictive. It could be a psychological addiction (i.e. classic conditioning - when you hang with the same people / in the same environments where you used to get high, you get that craving becuase your body has conditioned itself to associate those people / places with getting high, so you crave it)
Find new friends / places to hang out with in that case.
I was addicted to caffeiene I guess? Still am somewhat.

Psychological addiction is addiction. Niccotine is a pyschological addiction. Stuff like heroin and crack are a physical addiction. You're kidding yourself if you don't think you can become reliant on pot.

I wish I had discovered short-acting minor tranquilizers during high school (ie: lorazepam, temazepam, diazepam, etc.), instead of later on in life.
Not for abuse purposes, but as a substitute for social use of alcohol, with far less of a hangover than drinking, and hence, far more productivity the next day.
Of course, society has it completely wrong -- the minor tranquilizers are vastly safer than alcohol, for both short-term (ie: almost impossible to die or be permanently harmed because of an overdose) and long-term (ie: very little organ toxicity) use. But minor tranquilizers are tightly controlled Schedule 4 prescription medications, while any bozo can buy a truckload of alcohol without prescription. Makes no sense to me . In a rational world, alcohol would be prescription-only medication, while packets of valium and ativan tablets would be on the shelves of what we now know as liquor stores.

Ummm, niccotine and heroin and crack are all physiological addictions. They change your brains neurocircuitry. Psych factors contribute, but they are mainly physiological changes that occur
Pot does not. It's purely psychological. Like I said, if he changes his surroundings and the people he hangs with who do pot, then it should help with the problem.

maybe people are using drugs to escape reality
- like if they have family or social problems (shy) or don't like their school or program

I bet there are as many people that flunk out without the drugs then with it.

A lot of people use illicit drugs to self-treat conditions that have not been addressed or adequately addressed by traditional medical treatments. For instance, depression, anxiety, pain, insomnia, social anxiety disorder, ADD/ADHD, etc.
For instance, the secretary that drinks 25-30 cups of coffee every day (I had one) probably would be doing a lot less damage to their long-term health if they got themselves a prescription for buproprion or methylphenidate, and simply drank water instead.

There have been reports of physical dependance and withdrawal from marihuana, and its active ingredient, THC. Some people are just more predisposed to addiction.

Oh, if its just pot, then its about a joint a week for me, sometimes more, sometimes less. I only have one when I'm done and know I don't have any responsibilities(for the rest of the day heh).
Not addictive for me though, but I can see how it can be psychologically addictive...

Drugs should never be associated with school, unless you're tossing 'failure' into the equation.
Then again, there are those creative pot-heads who seem to express themselves well when under the influence, however, it's not worth the risk of losing your short-term memory or any other potential issues.
Drugs are for inadequate individuals who lack the time and effort into education, work experience or money-oriented assignments.
