Looking for hard drives without any problems. Brand/model doesn't matter. Must be Sata.
I'm buying used 1 TB hard drives with no warranty at $60
I'm buying used 1 TB hard drives with 1 year or more warranty at $65
I'm buying new, never used 1 TB hard drives with 2 years or more warranty at $75
I'm buying used 1.5 TB hard drives with 1 year or more warranty at $100
I may pay slightly more if you're selling more than 1.
I'm located in Oakville and go to Mississauga/Toronto from time to time.

Looking for hard drives without any problems that are 500 Gigs or greater in size. Price is a key factor. Brand/model doesn't matter. Must be Sata.
I'm buying used hard drives at 6 cents per gigabyte. New hard drives at 7 cents per gigabyte. I may pay slightly more if you're selling more than 2 TB in total.
I'm located in Oakville and go to Mississauga/Toronto from time to time. I won't drive more than 30 minutes out of the way from these areas.
Please direct us to the $70 tax in for BNIB 1TB drives in the hot deal section...we'd appriciate it!

There goes my hope of finding new drives for .004 cents per TB then.

All my prices are based off of the fact that you can buy storage for 8 cents per gig these days. I'm not going to go out of my way to meet up with people just to save $5 or less.

Again, please direct us to the $80 1TB drives then. Or even a $40 500GB one.

NCIX and CanadaComputers have been selling Hitachi 1 TB drives for $80 for the past 2 weeks during their sales.

Interesting. I see $107 as their lowest price this week.

You have to buy it on their sales, which happens very often (NCIX is once a week).

Yes, I'm well aware of their sales. My point was that you cannot buy any TB drive right now for 8c per GB. Their current sale doesn't include it, nor does any other. Right now, you can buy drives for 10.7c per GB.
Your point about not meeting up with someone to save $5 cuts both ways.
Anyway, that's enough for now. Good luck.

That 10.7c per GB is a price of convenience wherein I can just go in or order online and have it right away. If I bought something from someone here, I wouldn't exactly call it convenient, I'd call it a "sale". If I can find 8c per GB on some sale once a week, then I can pretty much say it costs 8c per GB. I didn't say I need it ASAP.
The $5 doesn't cut both ways. Cash is liquid, computer parts are not and are subject to devaluation over time that is beyond the depreciation of the dollar.
What I'm offering is definitely below what they sell in the stores, but I thought that was what this forum is about....a place for people to offload computer parts they no longer need but have no other avenue of selling it.
You're also forgetting that stores actually have a reputation and a return policy. If I buy BNIB and it happens to be a dud, guess what, I can't just return it to many people here.

RFD is all about deals but you cannot expect someone to sell modern hardware for 40% of their true cost. That's robbery.

Supposing that new modern hard drives cost 9 cents per Gig today, which you can easily find...
80% of that is 7.2 cents per Gig.
70% of that is 6.3 cents per Gig.
So I'm paying approximately 80% for new without being able to return it, 70% for used without being able to return it. Wouldn't you want the same percentages given the risk involved?
True cost is the cost today, not the cost at which the individual bought it.

I'm curious to know what people would think a fair price is for used and for new hard drives. (Per GB)
Imagine you're paying them in cash and meeting them in an agreed upon location.

10. Bumping a thread: No more than 2 bumps per 24 hour period (00:00 - 23:59). Any post by the original poster counts as a bump, even if they are answering a question.
Think you should create a thread in Shopping Discussions or Request-A-Deal forums if you want to discuss this further...

first of all let me say that i'm really not a fan of buying used hard drives - just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me - after saying that , i recently bought 2 matching 200 gig sata drives for $60.00 total - any more and i would have just bought new - also , i knew the person i bought from so i wasn't as
leary about getting burned .... i also generally don't pay more than half value for any computer part that is used -- to save $20 on a video card or hard drive that has little or no warranty seems kinda stupid to me - hey , jus sayin

When I first saw this post, I ignored it. No one is going to offer you a drive at those ridiculous prices.
If someone does, then good for you.
What Deep meant by the $5 cutting both ways, is that the cost of transportation and time works both ways. Should someone go out of their way to lose $5?
Your request has an attitude, it seems you want it dirt cheap, hell you want someone to come install it for you too and they should pay you for the privilage.
You're entitled to post and request anything you want. I suggest you buy a drive from NCIX when it is on sale again
As for warranty, you can buy a drive from anyone here, if you have a problem, send it back to the manufacturer. Hard drives are the easiest to RMA.

I just created a broad spectrum post to see if anyone would like to offload their hard drives. It's not the size of the hard drives that matter to me, but the cost per GB. That is why some of you think that it's an unreasonable price for smaller hard drives - because they have a higher cost per GB.
So you valuate the risk of buying hard drives from the BST section differently. I think my offers are reasonable given the circumstance.
I haven't seen anyone rationalize why hard drives from the BST section should be worth more. I'm buying approx. 70% for used, approx. 80% for new. Isn't that a reasonable expectation for an item prone to failure in the BST section? Am I supposed to offer 80% for used, and 90% for new?
The responses in this thread have been enlightening in many ways though and I have to change my original post.

You can validate your offer simply by observing the number of people willing to sell new, unused drives at those prices. Unless there is a local crackhead who really needs some cash, I cannot imagine there will be any. But good luck!

Bottom line is that you could post your "WTB", but in reality no one is gonna sell you used or BNIB hard drive for that price.

I'm buying used 1.5 TB hard drives with 1 year or more warranty at $100
Wow, if you're successful then I'll buy too. I just paid $100 on sale for 1TB shipped. $100 for 1TB is common because the $CAN is rising but no one is posting NEW $75 1TB this month - perhaps later.
$100 for 1.5TB? That means your seller took a 50% loss on a 6 month old drive with 4 1/2 year warranty. Seagate 2009 HDDs are 3 yr warranty, while Seagate 2008 are 5 yr warranty. It's smarter to keep OLDER Seagates!
Oh @ $.06/GB no warranty, tell this guy his 120GB HDD is worth $7.20 /sarcasm
