Update: alwaysbuylow points out that there's a rebate available for this product (http://www.mirhelp.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/33839-may-31-09.pdf)... another $20 off. If it works, this is a definitely a scorching hot deal!
This one looks hot! Buy.com Canada has the Acom Data Executive Series Leather Style 320GB 5400RPM USB 2.0 External 2.5IN Hard Drive for $59.84 (http://affiliate.buy.com/gateway.aspx?adid=17735&aid=10422811&pid=749547&sURL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ca.buy.com%2Fprod%2F320gb-usb2-0-esata-exter-drive%2Fq%2Floc%2F101%2F208084015.html) with free shipping! It lists at $62.99, but you'll see $59.84 once you add it to your cart.
2.5" 320GB external hard drives easily run $80 - $100 most of the time, so this is some very aggressive pricing. Compare prices (http://www.pricecanada.com/detail.php?product_id=565739&sku=PD320USEBL&matched_search=PD320USE-BL), other retailers have this for ~$85 and up... without free shipping.
I'm not sure why Buy.com Canada doesn't have the product image up, but the listed SKU looks right.

The last deal (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=726655) we posted from Buy.com Canada turned out pretty well, at least.

Thanks Andrew. $67.62 shipped, 320G with usb/esata, too good to be true, ordered one anyway and see. Buy.com Canada had very bad records of honoring their prices, so I don't have too much hope, if I receive it, then it will be a surprise.

The only negative thing about it is that it seems like requires external power adaptor. :(
Hellfire
May 11th, 2009, 05:28 PM
I would watch out on AcomData there is something wrong with the case they use.
I previous had a 250 GB external hd made by them, and the hard drive failed three times.
All different brands of HD as well, and the third replacement I got was clearly a refurbished drive.
They never changed the casing, just the drive each time, and I had to pay for shipping both ways.

hmmmmmmmm, well I definitely do not want if it needs external power adaptor. Although if the MIR counts, it's worth it just for the drive.

I think what it actually is, is that eSATA still requires a USB connection for power. It's not external power in the sense that you need to plug it into the wall.
Here's hoping this one works out -- it's an insane deal if the MIR works.

Regarding the power adapter, I thought notebook 2.5" harddrives/enclosures via USB didn't require one
ShylocK
May 11th, 2009, 05:59 PM
if you are using usb, you will not need an adaptor. if you are using esata then you will need usb to power the drive.
i assume most will use this with laptops though. not that many laptops have esata. nice to have the option at this price...especially if the mir goes through...that would make the drive ~$39.99? sick!
I got the confimation email. so far so good.
Placed Monday, May 11, 2009. If your order requires shipment, we will send you an email as soon as those items ship.

Smoking. Many thanks to OP and alwaysbuylow.
I have this enclosure, bought without a drive from NCIX. It doesn't require an AC adapter, but on a laptop it needs two USB ports to get enough power. Haven't tried eSATA, but it will need a USB port for power.

I have the PD320USE-BL and can confirm that it does NOT require a power adapter. The unit plugs into the USB port and works great. Nice compact unit, very quiet!
If you can get it for $60 plus free shipping and a $20 rebate, that would be HOT! Got mine at 50% off (other thread) of $149.xx and thought it was good at the time. This deal would be $15 less!
Already sent for rebate so can't return unit and try for this deal! >:(

Did you have to open up the enclosure (and void the warranty) to discover this? Have you plugged the serial number into the Hitachi warranty site and seen if the drive has its own valid warranty (either in Canada or the US)?
Another reviewer of this drive on NewEgg discovered a Samsung hm320ji drive inside his unit.
I ordered a drive at 2:39pm PST yesterday and it has shipped; looking forward to it so long as it doesn't lead to customer service hassles. No projected arrival date however.

Nice! Is it also a Hitachi? Would be helpful to know what internals are in these drives and whether they have an independent warranty. (I bought an acomdata 2.5" 80gb drive a year and a half ago and inside was a Western Digital SATA drive with a 3 year warranty-- two years longer than acomdata's.)

HM400LI or HM400JI?
The former is a triple-platter 9.5mm high drive, the latter is double-platter. A skinny triple-platter drive is liable to be a little more delicate (and a tad slower), so handle with care!

If you're seeing about 300GB capacity, you haven't been shortchanged anything.
Hard drive manufacturers use the binary definition of gigabyte... 1,000,000,000 bytes. In binary, 1 gigabyte = 1,073,741,824 bytes. This is what your operating system is listing.
320 divided by 1.073 = 298.

Delivered via Purolator...
The drive inside is the same Samsung 320GB HM320JI (http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/productmodel.do?type=62&subtype=67&model_cd=324).
Here's the listing of the bare drive on PriceCanada.com (http://www.pricecanada.com/detail.php?product_id=525184&sku=HM320JI).

you'll need to have been an RFDer for a lil longer to realize this, but Buy.com Canada has had that 5% off all orders for like... "forever"... (since its inception  )
add to cart and 5% discount will show, regardless of how many items you have in cart
