Costco Mississauga South has the LG 60PG30 for $1999.98. Thought it was pretty hot for a 60" plasma.
Reg price is $2499.

I didn't buy it. I don't know if it was only the floor model or just all the models, sorry. I just saw the price tag.

Would be a good deal at $ 1999.

FS has the 60PG60 at $ 2599, which has THX certification, yet Gibby's is selling the new 60PS60 (which is this years version of the 60PG60) for $ 2599 as well. So, logic would dictate that FS should be trying to sell the 60PG60 for around 2K soon. I am going into FS in 2-3 weeks to try to get the 60PG60 for $1999. I will post if successful...

Here is CNET''s review of the 60PG60, which is quite good.

At 2000 I'd rather have a good 50" than a crappy 60" to be honest =/ PG30 is LG's low end Plasma isn't it? And LG's plasmas are pretty damn bad in the first place.

Don't know if they are bad per se, but definitely lower end. All of lg's products are, even though they try to run with the big boys with their Scarlet tvs. From what I've heard on AVS, lg plasmas seem to be worse with regards to image retention. Other than that, don't really know. Although I will agree that I'd rather spend 2k on a panasonic plasma than a 60" lg.

you have a look at this TV in person... I have seen it properly calibrated and broken in and it is really is impressive. I prefer the deeper blacks and more vibrant colours to the z80 panasonices. IR has been a none issue.
Glare is an issue but not if you are in a basement with little or no windows(like me). I was all set to buy a panny and bought and LG instead. My friends are shocked especially since I talked them out of LG's. For the cost difference it is worth it for me. After all I don't plan on it lasting more then 3 years.

oops this is the PG60 not the the PS60. I have seen the S version (this years) but I doubt it is different

Supposedly higher contrast... mega contrast 2,000,000:1.... otherwise not a clue.... going to jump on something like this or a samsung b530 in the next few months.... under $2k 60" is awfully tempting....

50" and 60" are not in the same league...it's worse than comparing a 42" to a 50" :D

There is nothing wrong with LG's picture quality. I think they are right up there in SD content. HD stuff, like many HDTVs, LG is better than good.

I do agree you might as well get 50" as the regular price premium of 60-inchers over a 50" is not justified. The FS LG 1080p 50" plasma for $1099 last week was hotter IMHO.

I've seen this model on display at a number of different locations. The PQ is good. If anyone thinks otherwise you should take it home and set it up before you pass judgement.

"The PG30 Series from LG is their 2008 entry level line of plasma televisions that feature a native 1080p resolution. The increased resolution is the major step-up over the less expensive PG20 Series, alongside larger display size options. Most of the other improvements that the PG20 made over the 2007 models are found in the PG30 including the extra calibration options, Clear Voice technology and "Invisible Speaker" system. Located above the PG30s is the PG60 Series that adds a premium styling and THX Certification."

I have the 60PG60 from FS and am trying to decide whether to keep it. It looks very good in 1080p playing XBOX 360 games and does a good job in properly streching and displaying sd content, but the one thing that is bothering me a lot is that it seems a bit dark.

What I mean by this is that in vivid mode ( the brightest mode ) some scenes seem dark to me, especially when displaying SD content. I got the tv and 2 extra years of warrenty on top of the original 2 from FS for $2700 + tax. Anyone else have any comments on this issue.

I have also been considering a Samsung 58B540 from Costco for $2799. Can anyone comment on this tv ????

As well, has anyone secured a great deal on a large tv ie. the 63inch Samsung 63A650 ??

the frameless design is probably the best feature of this tv!! You really do have to see it in person to appreciate it.

Only people who travel fora and have not seen 60PG60 in action can say that it's has crappy picture and it's dark. I can't comment on image retention since I don't use it for gaming. With regular TV watching, be it SD, HD, stretched or with black bars, image retention is not an issue. In fact you will never see any.
When properly set up (not even calibrated) this TV is stellar looking. On or off. For the price it can't be touched.
I considered all 4 manufacturers and after playing with all 4 of them (58" and 60") in person, decided that I'd be very sorry if I paid more than cost of 60PG60. With exception of remote control there is not one fault I can find with it. And it's not like I didn't look.

It is not like I am crapping on the tv, it is just that as I watch it in SD mode using my sattelite, I have the tv on the vivid setting and it seems to me that the picture just seems dark. Can you comment on this particular issue??

You should always use the "Grey Bar" setting on your cable box or Satellite Box. Screen burn in does happen even on these new Plasma's. I worked in a restaurant for a while and the Panny Plasma's show burn in because the owner didn't want to run them with the grey bars. It was particularly noticable when a widescreen hockey game was on and you could see that the edges of the screen were much brighter than the center square. The Black bars will cause burn in.

Couple quick questions:

1) Have you adjusted the image settings on your Satellite box to see if that helps?

2) If you plug a DVD player or Blu-ray player in is it still dark?

3) Has anyone ever accessed your service menu and turned down the power consumption?

If it isn't any of the above and you've already tried calibrating the tv in the regular menu then I'd suggest exchanging it for a different unit. Plasma tv's should not be dark, when they run at full power they actually hurt your eyes in a dimmed room. The only reason people think they are dimmer than lcd is because most LCD's come preset in "Torch mode" and Plasma's are more reflective to ambient light.

I hope you can figure out what's wrong.

When I got TV I tried all modes, including THX and all of them are sub par. I set it to standard, power save 1 and set brightness, contrast, and other controls to my liking. It's like that since February, and I couldn't be happier.

This summer I'll calibrate it and see if, and how much, it makes difference.

TVs in bars and restaurants work sometimes over 12 hours a day. Most of them are tuned in on same channel for days, even weeks. If you run mixture of unstreched SD, streched SD, HD and movies with 1.85:1 and 2.39:1 ratio (with black bars on top/bottom), like most home owners do, burn-in is non-issue.

I have an Oppo dvd player hooked into the tv through component cables and have also tried the hdmi cable. Again, when watching a dvd, I find that the overall picture in general seems a bit warm and a bit on the dim side in the Vivid mode. You should see the THX mode. Whatever person came up with that Yellowish dim mode must have been smoking something.

The vivid mode does look good, but it concerns me that the tv is at its highest mode, and the powersavings is turned off, in order to produce a decent picture.

Oddly, in the full 1080p playing an XBOX360 game through the hdmi cable, the tv is quite bright and of course looks excellent.

Ever try cinema mode, especially for movies? Personally can't stand vivid modes... too much of everything to the extreme... like a softer picture for sure... of course, I am also using a 42" Samsung plasma, so slightly different...
