Would like to bring a friend to try Chinese food in the Steeles/Vic Park Markham or Scarborough area. Since it's probably a one time thing, we'd like to bring her to try the best (price doesn't matter). Preferably nearby since we won't have time to travel far. Can be any chinese food (Hong Kong/Cantonese preferably, Shanghai, Taiwanese, etc).

I know there's a popular one in a big old mansion which is quite expensive but forgot the name of it (Embassy or something?) and the exact location (it's along Steeles and not too far away). Also one on Woodbine (something Seafood?). Which would be the best places for dim sum lunch or for early dinner (approx 6pm)?

Try the one inside the plaza at the corner of Vic Park and McNicoll (SE corner). That one's not bad, but can be very packed up during weekends. Chinese name of that restaurant is "Yiu Wing".

I would't recommend this one since OP said price doesn't matter. Yiu Wing is known more for its low pricing than good food. I would recommend going to the the one that OP mentioned at Warden and Steeles (the big old mansion one).

Personally, I enjoy Honey & Garlic near Denison and Kennedy.

Everytime I go, I spend around $25 and I get 2 side dishes, 2 bowls of rice. It comes with soup and dessert at the end.

Elegantview is close by Vic Pk and Cummer.

Not the most expensive food...IMO good food beats expensive food anytime.

I believe the Dragon Dynasty Restaurant in Scarborough, is usually always rated as one of best in Toronto, expensive but very good service and food,

Dragon Dynasty Chinese Cuisine
2301 Brimley Road
Tel: 416-321-9000

don't go on weekends though, long line ups for dim sum lunch (regulars will be discreetly given tables first) and evenings are usually booked for wedding banquets in the summer

It is very expensive. I dropped $300 there for 3 people.

But the decor is very nice, food is very good. Even the tea pot and cups are akin to having afternoon tea with the Queen.

The big mansion one is Casa Imperial on Steeles at Warden. the other one is Casa Victoria at Warden and 7. Same owners both are pricy but excellent fine dining and service.

The dinner chef at Case Imperial has recently left to go to new resto called Emperor in Richmond Hill. The new chef now at Casa is not nearly as good as the previous chef. I tried Casa Imp (banquet) back in Nov when the old chef was there was it was excellent. Recently I had another banquet style dinner and the dishes prepared were dissapointing. Strange ingredients like chinese sausage in the fried rice, tons of deep fried dishes, everything was overly salty.

I haven't tried Casa Victoria yet, but same owners (as someone already mentioned). In fact, my friend's uncle is the owner.

If price is not a matter, then go up to Richmond Hill to either Yang's or Emperor. It's finer stuff, but farther away for you (but well worth the drive). There's also Omei on Hwy 7, great lobster 4 ways. I'll be taking my parents to these 3 places when they come visit me next month.

How about Judy Cuisine?

There are 2 Judy restaurants?
1 in Scarborough and 1 in Richmond Hill

Thanks for the info. I didn't know the dinner chef at Case Imperial left. What about the afternoon chef? I thought their dim sum was pretty good.

Looks like we may be going for lunch, in which case we need to eat somewhere close by. Which are the good places for lunch at Metro Square? We are trying to avoid food court stuff if possible.

Is Keung's Delight sort of like the food at Richmond Court? I do remember going there once or twice, but it was for midnight snack (I think they are open 24 hours right?)

Where is Emperor? And which do you think is more expensive: Yang's or Casa Imperial?

Ajisen Ramen is the ramen place. I do not recommend going there unless you are really desperate for ramen.

Keung's is of a slightly higher class than Richmond Court. For one, you actually get a teapot at Keung's. It's a bit more comparable to a Congee Wong or maybe Congee Queen.

I do not agree with this statement. I would say Keung's is on par with Richmond Court.

I would say Keung, Congee Wong, Richmond Court, are all restaurants of the same class. However, in that same class, i would rate Richmond Court at the bottom. :cheesygri
