first time buying provolone cheese, taste is ok but man does it smell. is this normal?

Provolone doesn't really smell too much, maybe your nose is more sensitive than mine. If it tastes ok then I would eat it.

I don't think it should smell unless you really put it up to your nose. All the instances when I ate provolone, I didn't smell anything as I picked it up and placed it on my food.

A cheese that "really smells" is one that smells as you take it out of the package:lol:

The Provolone generally available is pretty mild stuff both in taste and smell. You can get a smoked version that has a strong distinct aroma.

Its quite mild tasting and smelling when I buy it.

It could be stronger smelling when the package is opened for the first time.

i find smoked provolone to have a very strong flavor, but regular provolone not so much

Ive noticed that it can occasionally have a bit of a stronger smell, it's a mild tasting cheese overall.

Raclette takes this to the extreme, very strong smelling yet mild tasting.....

Depends on the age but it definitely has a stronger smell than taste.
