I saw lot of real estate ads putting wrought iron pickets as a selling feature and builders are actually charging several thousands more on this upgrade.
But when I look at the prices for wooden and iron pickets. Single basket iron picket (this is usually the basic one builders install) is selling for $13 a piece http://www.stairparts.ca/categories.php?SUBCAT=Basket%20Metal%20Balusters, but solid oak wooden picket is selling for $40 to $70 each http://www.stairparts.ca/categories.php?SUBCAT=Oversize%20Hampton%20Newels, and plus labor to stain and materials (paint) on top.
So, if we pay to upgrade from wooden pickets to iron pickets, the builder actually save thousands on parts & labor, and make additional thousands from your upgrade?? Does it make sense?
Builder should pay people back for "upgrading" to iron pickets
