I like McDonald's iced coffee (vanilla flavor). Tim Hortons' iced coffee seems expensive for what you get.

Just grabbed one. It was at least 1/3 cream and the drink looked almost white when they gave it to me. Took 1 sip and it tasted like I was drinking straight cream. Tossed it in the trash. Waste of money.

Yea, like the person above said

You can always ask for them to make it again if it is crap

I do then whenever I get a watery hot chocolate, they are usually more than happy to do it for you

I tried the McD's ice coffee, and was not impressed, I wouldn't get it again. I imagine Timmy's is similar, and thus I wouldn't bother. Ice-Caps are good though, but so high in calories I have to avoid them.

I just realized today that TH has Iced Coffee. I saw the "new" sign so bought one. At first, I thought since the small is $1.39 they were matching McD's since their small is also the same price...until I got it and TH small is much, much smaller than McD.

It was okay, but I wouldn't buy it again. For what you get, it is pricier and no better than McD.

Yes, when you order a McD small it is the same as a Tim's medium. The same applies if you go up to other sizes.

I get the McD's iced coffee and tell them to only put 2 squirts of whatever that sugar syrup is - the normal is 4. I can't stand any of the flavour syrups -hazelnut or vanilla I think is what they have. Oh, and after they've poured the coffee over the ice, the ice melts and the cup is less full so I always send them back to add more ice. I'm a total pain but I wants what I wants. :cheesygri

I just noticed the Timmy's iced coffee yesterday, almost got it until I asked if if was just coffee poured over ice (yes) and did they squirt some sweetner liquid? (yes - and they also have a vanilla flavor they can add) so it's the same as McD's so I passed.

like other people said, it all depends on how its made. i went a few days ago to get a small one for the first time, and it tasted great. went the next day and picked up a large and it was horrible. they have the syrup in some large industrial looking soap container, which is a light thick brown. they pour it in the bottom of the cup, put some milk in, then ice, and pour some coffee on top. i think mine tasted bad because the girl didnt mix it well because on the bottom was alot of syrup and on the top was mostly milk. but it does taste good when made right.

They added the syrup beforehand, it has been like this at a couple locations I have visited, so you are incorrect. As in, they have a large mixture of the iced coffee, with the syrup already in.

Then they are making it wrong. I've ordered or seen it made at 2 locations in Montreal and numerous ones in Ottawa. They have all done it my way. Although apparently I saw it incorrectly as you have just stated.

I'd also like to think adding the syrup before hand is a bad idea because it would all sink to the bottom in the chiller unit.

Its highly unlikely that they have a different method just for southern ontario. Not to mention I've been to at least a dozen different tim hortons.... AND this is the best part... I've seen them read the instructions on how to make them right infront of me. You know those laminated cards they have behind the counter? They have ones for almost every product they make, most of them are posted on the wall. Well nobody had made one before so the girl read the card, step by step. Although I suppose those were the eastern Ontario only instructions.

Perhaps you should try a to broaden your tim hortons horizons and try a couple more then report back! What area of toronto have you tried?

The best part is, I tried to order black both times and both times I was refused because "the syrup had already been added". But you saw some laminated cards in Montreal, so I guess I must be lying. How far should I broaden my horizons? A 3-5 hour drive to Ottawa?

The product in the cooler already has something in it. Its already light beige colour, so that is probably why you couldnt order a black one. They do add more cream and the sugar syrup to it at the locations I've been too.

See what else you can dig up! And if you were to drive to Ottawa you could hit up every tim hortons on the way. I've got them at the ones in Napanee and a 401 rest stop.

It's okay Sherlock, I'll leave the full investigation to you. Seeing as you are RFD's official TH Iced Coffee roadie, I think you would be better suited for the position. Have at it, chap.

Also I like how you basically concede your whole premise in the first paragraph...if it's light biege, I can't really have it how I want it, or black, can I?

Anyways, good luck with your full investigation, I hope to see a thread on it in the near future.

All the tims I have visited add the syrup, then the cream, ice, and then the chilled coffee. You could ask for more or less of any component.

I'll lay that one down for you again alright.

1. Grab Cup
2. Add Ice
3. Add Syrup (or as they call it "Beverage Base")
4. Add Cream from the sure shot machine
5. Add "Coffee" from the chiller on the counter
6. Stir and enjoy!

Now the "coffee" they add MUST have something in it already, since its a light beige colour on its own. Although this "coffee" is not very sweet on its own and that is why they add the syrup.

Now do you understand how it works and why you could not get a black iced coffee?

So I guess I have to dumb it down for you. You put cream + sugar in something that has a bit of cream + sugar and it will result in something more creamier and sweet. Get none at all, and if its still too sweet, get a refund and complain to them instead about whining about howw its the end of the world.

tim hortons in the states doesnt pre-sweeten their coffee and advertises it saying to have it made exactly how you want it. tim hortons canada screwed up their drink. their coffee tastes like crap anyways so i dont get why your so passionate about tim.

I don't always want one cream, one sugar..sometimes I want it black. Does that mean I can "get it how I want it" according to you? The answer is no. Maybe you should spend less time playing Final Fantasy and hit the school books a bit harder. My suggestion: a course in critical thinking skills.

I haven't actually seen them make this, so I'm wondering if you can ask for this (or the one at McDonalds) to be made with decaf? Not sure if it is premixed or not?

I had to go to work instead of bickering for a refund, you know work, what real adults do during the day?

I guess LOL at me for believing a fool like you, but then again I don't fantasize about being a Final Fantasy character either, so what do I have to worry about?

I can't imagine having an iced coffee! I have had the ice cappuccino's before and they're good, but I have diabetes now, so they're definitely out.
I like my coffee hot. If I want a cold drink, I'll drink water or pop (rarely).

 This is barely taking up any of my time, and yes I repeated it 3 times, I find it hilarious.

I'm addicted to the McDonalds Iced Coffee with vanilla flavor! I just want to freeze dry and and chalk up a line and snort it. I love it! I'm working on making a substitute at home with Nestle French Vanilla Coffee mate.

I've been messing with this all day, and of come up with a pretty good approximation of the Mc'Ds Vanilla Iced Coffee.

First thing is use the boldest roast coffee you can find
I've been using some Sumatra Extra Bold beans I bought at Star Bucks awhile back
Next grind them longer... MUCH longer than you would for normal coffee, I've been grinding till they were as fine as clay, once ground they are warm, and pretty much come out in a clump.
I've been using my 4 cup coffee maker.
I make the coffee, and then pour it from the pot into a decanter. I then LOAD it with the Nestle French Vanilla Coffee-mate, I mean LOAD it, until it is pretty close to the same color as the Mc'ds iced coffee, so a pretty light brown in colour.
I let it sit in the decanter until it is warm, and then place in fridge. When read to drink I pour it over a glass full of ice
Then I enjoy.

I've had at least 8 cups in the last few hours (testing and retesting), I'm a little jittery, probably need to take something to sleep tonight!

Tried a cup when it was free, since they made it in advance all the sugar was at the bottom and was not cold enough since the ice melted... after mixing it a little the ice diluted it too much so It did not have much a taste...

As for how Mc donalds makes there coffee is they put two bags of coffee instead of the one normal coffee uses and brew it so it ends up super concentrated. After wards it is diluted a little with ice forgot the actual ratio though... they it's four shots of syrup for large while 2 for small and one cream for small and two for large and mix well.

rolo is 3 shots for small and 6 for large dunno why it's different.

Hope this is helpful for people who want to make it at home.

The small is really small. Since this is RFD, i think i would be sticking to Mcdonald's ice coffee because it is more worth it in terms of size. Taste wise, they are pretty similar.

Thanks. It is interesting to hear how it is made. Do you know if they can make it with decaf if you ask or will they do regular coffee only?
