Just wondering if anyone around here is into hot sauce. Recently got my hands on this (http://www.insanechicken.com/Da-Bomb-Beyond-Insanity.html) and at almost 120,000 scoville, it's the hottest thing I've EVER tasted. Honestly, I'm just getting used to it right now, using a toothpick to spread it over the food. Try a little more than the tip of a toothpick and your mouth will be on fire. Yes, it's that hot.
"This can't be as hot as the Chinese sauce we use" said a colleague at work, while dipping quite a bit of her chopstick inside the bottle. I've warned her about 5-6 times, but she wouldn't listen. She then licked the damn thing. Two seconds later, she was literally crying and begging for water. Luckily she was ok (after numerous glasses of cold water).
If you are into this stuff, what are you currently enjoying in terms of hot sauces ?

Heck yea!
But the only hot sauce I normally use is either Siracha (I can basically put it on any type of asian style food :cheesygri ), or the hot sauce that are on my wings when I order them
Rooster sauce FTW!

I like spicy hot sauces, but I think that some have heat, and some have flavour, and some have both.
For instance- Franks's is mildly hot, but it has not a whole lot of flavour for me. I would prefer to eat a milder sauce but with more flavour.
I've been trying different hot sauces. I recently picked up El Yucateco chile habanero hot sauce, found it rather hot, and I really enjoyed the flavour.
I've recently become very big on chiptole. I just picked up a whole bunch from sobeys, they come in cans in the mexican food section. I've been putting them on chicken, burgers, anything really. I like the Tabasco chipotle hot sauce.
Check this out if you want some really hot sauces, some of the names are really good.

OP, where did you get that DaBomb sauce?

I got lucky and found it at Winners. I always check their food section - they rarely have something I want, but when they do I'm quite happy with it. Picked up a 3-pack of Dave's stuff last year, lasted me quite a bit. Tasty too !

Yeah, they do. What I like most about it is that it has items you won't normally find in Canada (or aren't initially meant to be sold here - you can tell by the affixed nutritional information label).
But I digress !

Anyone know FOR SURE where his can be found (in stores) in GTA?

a good hot sauce has to be spicy and flavourful. otherwise, you might as well dip your tongue in industrial-strength salt. by eating stuff of that spiceness, you're killing your taste buds.
But if its really your thing to try hot sauce, try this one, its the best one on the planet, had a couple of buddies of mine order it last year for giggles:

Frank's Red Hot is too vinegary for me.
I'm on to chipotle right now. I like the deep, carmelized taste.
Habenero is on my shelf too. It sometimes can be a bit much.

This depends if you want hot sauce for the spice or the taste.
If it's too hot, you cant even taste anything but pain.
Im partial to Dan T's sauces. Their entire line up is great.

It is very cheap in China town...
You can also get it in Costco, I got two big bottles for like $6 or something.
I have tons of these, I'll put them up sometime soon.

Or if you just want to try some to see how it tastes and you like Vietnamese food, you cna always check out a Viet restaurant because they always have Siracha at each table
A lot of Chinese restaurants do as well (but many do not)

i am the only one in my family that prefers the more vinegary style of hot sauce (i love Frank's Red Hot Xtra Hot)...my family like some trinadad style one (mr goudas or something close that) that they find rarely at food basics (and not all food basics)..
i like that srichca or whatever one on my chinese/thai food...
the craziest one ive had/tasted was Dave's Insanity sauce... u sniff it and u like cry... its meant just to put very little in like chili and stews..
also, the hot sauce they use at Nando's is really tastey on that chicken... im gonna see if i can get a good deal on these onetime as usually their bottles are small and r like $5 each... little too expensive for me to have...
but nando's garlic sauce owns :)

You can find Piri Piri sauce at RCSS or Loblaws. Or go to a Portuguese Churrasqiera eatery and ask for their hot sauce.

I bought a bottle of Frank's last week, it adds some flavour but really I do not find it hot at all. I'll probably try the extra hot next time, as the vinegary flavour is a nice touch from time to time.

I get the dried, extra hot version. I like to crush it into food when I cook (just don't use your hands, you'll regret it if you ever rub your eyes!), it usually masks my lack of cooking skills.
The rooster sauce is my "go to" sauce. But I occasionally like Frank's. I got a bunch of other stuff, but won't bother mentioning as I don't know the names.
I'm intrigued by the Dan T's Smoked...it might go well with chili.

Sweet yet fiery.
http://www.chilliworld.com/i/p/74.jpg
This is like your typical vinegar based hot sauce. Except this one has a more spicier/fiery kick.
http://www.surfasonline.com/images/products/14074L.jpg
Your typical Vietnamese/Chinese "rooster" brand hot sauce.
I use this for larger dishes...e.g. a big bowl of noodles or rice. I find that the other "fiery" type of hot sauces taste better being dabbed with a piece of meat.
Theres also my homemade hot sauce. I throw habaneros, vinegar, garlic, and cilantro into a food processor.

Since we are on the topic of hot sauce, I'm having trouble finding a particular brand.
At some Chinese restaurants, they have hot sauce in a ketchup bottle. I like to call this "Chinese Ketchup".:cheesygri Sometimes it's the rooster sauce, but often it's a similar colour and texture (little more oilier), but less spicey. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I've been looking for this at Chinese supermarkets, but get lost with all the different brands.

Rooster sauce is ok
Trying to find something hotter but not to the point it kills flavour. Personally I like the stuff that the dim sum restaurants use along with the horse radish.
Sometimes I like to see how much I can handle but then you realize, it's no longer about flavour than sensation. I bought hot sauces from the one of a kind trade show, awesome stuff but pricey.
*note* winners or really homesense has a lot of novelty food stuffs but I can't bear the thought how did it get to winners or how long it's been there.

Wow, I haven't seen or had DanT's in a while. It's good stuff, not too hot but quite flavourful. I'm currently working my way through a Dave's Ultimate Insanity gift pack (below), which is OK, but has more heat than flavour in the "ultimate" sauce. I also like Sriracha on pizza...the garlic flavour fits right in. Tabasco ot tabasco jalapeno is also good for pizza, as are crushed peppers, of course.

I eat the rooster sauce like ketchup. I put it on my fries, burgers, sandwiches, veggie sticks and just about anything. It's definitely not the hottest out there but I really enjoy the flavour of it.
I used to enjoy ordering the hottest dish wherever I went (including the 20 chillies at Salad King) but eventually realized i don't actually enjoy my meal when I do so. I still eat food spicier than most people I know but I now choose flavour over spice.
Has anyone tried these chips before: Habanero Chips (http://extremefood.com/shop/product.php?productid=31&cat=9&page=1)? I've hear there are spicier chips out there but these have an awesome smokiness to them that really complements the burn. Too bad it costs $3.50 a bag for these at Bulk Barn.

Maybe I need to try the White Hot version.
To illustrate how weak it was, think of the difference between Franks Red Hot and Sriracha. That difference is about the same as Dan T's Spiced and Franks Red Hot (Franks being the hotter one). This is why I think I got a bad one... it shouldn't be that flavourless.
Other than the illusive "Chinese Ketchup", I don't have anything to recommend.

Yeah, so do I. For me Sriracha has a good combination of the two. I'm not one of those people that treats food like a challenge. I like hot food (probably more so than most people), but I want to enjoy the food too. This is why I've been searching for the "Chinese Ketchup". It's not so much a hot sauce as it is a flavour enhancer.
That's funny, the hottest I've ever had was white (all seeds)... my tongue felt like it was bubbling!

I can't decide which hot sauce is most indispensable, Frank's for mild heat, Rooster for medium heat with plenty of flavour or one of the Barbados style mustard sauces for hamburgers and seafood (mixed with lime juice and mayonnaise).
If one had to be chosen I think it would be the Barbados style, either Windmill brand that is hard to find or Mr. Goudas.
