Can somebody tell me what this company is about? I had never heard of morEnergy until some guy wearing a hardhat with a morEnergy sticker on it showed up at my door 10 minutes ago. He wanted to see my Enbridge bill and was evasive when I asked him if he worked for Enbridge. He couldn't stick to one story. Direct Energy was mentioned. The point of his visit was apparently to switch out the rental water heater. He wanted to do it right away. There was no truck outside, I hadn't requested any water heater rental changes recently; his whole approach made me suspicious that I would have been ripped off if I had showed him anything.

The sales method is the exact same as the peddlers from Direct Energy who come to your door and ask to see your hydro bill.

This guy got offended when I didn't immediately jump for joy at his arrival. He said I was 'not compliant' when I asked him for a flyer or something to learn about who he was working for and what he was offering. So I moved closer to his face. I said, "Not-compliant? You make it sound like I'm breaking some kind of law or something." Then he got really offended, started making sarcastic comments like "Oh, I see, you don't trust me, I'm at your door, I too have a door, I see where you're coming from, you should look at yourself, I think I'm a nice guy, but look at you with your attitude.." drivel like this aimed at me, for merely requesting some kind of flyer.

I feel like going outside and hunting him down, he's probably still on my street. I don't appreciate his sarcastic comments. What right does he have to come to my door and insult me? For not agreeing to give money to a total stranger who happens to knock on my door and demand it? A total stranger who is evasive about his true purpose? Who lies and insults me?

Anyways, enough about him.

Does anyone here have any information about this morEnergy and what they are up to? Maybe the clown who came to my door was really offering me some kind of deal. But his approach was unprofessional.

I'm sick of these clowns coming to my door unannounced and asking to see my personal information, and then getting offensive when I ask for basic information. I really should stop answering the door or get some kind of camera doorbell so I can see who's there.

There is almost no useful information on this morEnergy on the internet. I still don't know what they are up to.
I assume their goal is to replace part of my Enbridge bill with a morEnergy bill, promising savings, but never actually delivering. Maybe my bill would have gone up if I had let that clown in the hardhat 'switch out' my water heater.

I had these morenergy clowns come to my door this evening. At first he suggested that morenergy was representing Enbridge, holding a laminated letter sized piece of paper with the Enbridge logo on it, and also suggested morenergy was assuming my hot water tank rental from Direct Energy and he was here to inspect my tank. I told him I had received no notice from Direct Energy of that. He had a morenergy badge, but I asked him for Enbridge or Direct Energy ID. Of course he could not produce either, so he started on a rather weak sales pitch, perhaps startled that I countered his tactics with an agressive response.

I told him in no uncertain terms that he was attempting to enter my home on false pretenses, and directed him to leave my property and closed the door. All the way he was saying "there's no need to be rude..." blah blah blah, but I had nothing nice to say so I closed the door. Then he came to the door again several minutes later, so I called the police and filed a complaint. I also called both Enbridge and Direct Energy and they both confirmed that morenergy is not affilliated with either one of them.

He actually came back? You might need to get more aggressive! Like answering the door with a meat cleaver in your hand!
My video doorbell will be installed soon I hope, and that will be the end of awkward situations like these for me.

Yeah, he's "legit" but who knows that he wasn't really casing the joint for a future burglary? Maybe I'm paranoid, but you can't be too careful these days.

For the most part, these are starving students that brainwashed and sent out to do the company's dirty-work. :mad:

Anyone who answers *any* questions at their door, or talks to any of these people for more than a few seconds, is volunteering their own time, personal information and probably a lot more is a completely naive manner.

I also don't care if they really are selling something. In fact, I may care less.

Good job calling the police on the guy who came back. "Legit" does not describe someone who comes to my door to sell me something.

Yeah this sounds familiar to the Universal Energy Corporation, one day they came by my house and my mom actually signed an agreement with them and on top of that they offered me a job.

I was oblivious to who or what they we're actually about but after I got the job I did some online research and realized that they'd hire just about anyone. On top of that, I learned how they had no affiliation with any of the gas companies and what an awful job it'd be.

Luckily I got my mom to pull out of the contract before the 10 day grace period is up, however they never returned a copy of my Embridge bill and I've never heard from them again.

morEnergy is simply a rental company that you can get a hot water heater from. No different then renting from direct Energy. They are not trying to sell you anything and if you contact Enbridge they can verify this. Best advice when it comes to morEnergy solicitations is to see if they can offer you a better price then what you are currently paying for utility rentals.

Well, I doubt if they would be offering a better deal. The way I understand it, marketers like this try to lock you into a long-term deal. Then when the price drops, you're stuck. Any deal I would have signed with these people would be making me poorer today: Enbridge just notified me their new rate is effectively 12.954 cents per m/3.

This guy tries to barge in wanting to look at my bill and water heater so he can save me money.

I just say NO and the guy gets all offended and confrontational with me, LOL.

I keep a baseball bat at my door for reasons like this, some idiot trying to barge in my house wanting to see a copy of my bills and whatever else.

There should be a law against door-to-door salesman - its really annoying and most of these guys are really pushy.

Did you get a good look at him? What did he look like? I'm still pissed at the guy who came to my door. I shouldn't have let him get away so easily. If it's the same guy, I have to say, people in Toronto are really, really polite to rude strangers. I know other places where this guy would have been shot dead by now.

Good thing Im a bigger fellow and not afraid of being confrontational (I used to be a wuss but as you get older you learn not to take BS for even one second from anyone), but a housewife or little lady or teenager daughter may feel threatened or duped into "its routine maintenance let me in your house and show me your bill."

The guy wouldnt even leave after I said no, he just stood there looking at me, like its my fault for saying no.

Oh, different guy. The guy who came here was white, I'd say between 45-50. Wearing a deceptive costume must be a strategy their sales force is adopting.

I used to let people get away with things too, but after enough times where you're left feeling stupid, knowing you let someone rip you off, you decide you've had enough, realizing if you let this guy get away with something it's going to take you months to fix this new problem he's creating, if it's even possible to fix - so you start fighting back. You start asking more questions. You start to notice the body language which gives liars away.

I wonder if the deceptive costume con turns this from an annoyance into a legal issue? Not that I feel like pursuing it.

Last week, the MorEnergy guy with the hardhat came by, and I had a gut feeling that something was fishy. Thank goodness that my husband later called the whole thing off, but I was one of those naive housewives that could easily have given in and signed away for something I had not much knowledge about. Of course, saving money and energy is appealing, but it would be more appealing if the program were run by Enbridge, with prior notice and information i.e. newsletters, not some random dude coming by all intrusive. Thinking back, I was a complete idiot and am kicking myself for letting a stranger in the house with my little boy inside. The rule of thumb is: if it's not broken, don't fix it.

Be careful of this extremely deceptive & manipulative company!!!! They are such CON ARTISTS!!! We cancelled just in the nick of time before falling into their deceptive web! The following is what they do: they offer a better rate BUT after a few months, that rate is doubled/tripled. When the customer discovers the rate increase, and they want to cancel, morEnergy charges an exorbident cancellation fee, anywhere from $1,000. to $3,000.!! They have FAKE ENBRIDGE badges and claim to be part of Enbridge--BUT they are NOT part of Enbridge! Don't fall for morEnergy's line, 'we are working for the government/Enbridge and we are required by law to inspect/change your tank'!!! DO NOT ALL ALLOW THESE EVIL LOW LIVES INTO YOUR HOME, OR TO LOOK AT YOUR BILLS!!

Tonight, my son answered a knocked on our door and was approached by a man and a woman (both black in race) and both wearing a hard hat, jacket that has a glowing stripe, they represented themselves as an employee of Enbridge. They said that they were sent by Enbridge to checked our water heater tank. My son told them that I was sleeping, but they insisted and pushed themselves in and said that they were conducting an inspections around our area and so they must inspect our water heater. My son in-law (who was also around) was soo concerned, woke me up and told me what was going on down our basement and wanted to know if I called Enbridge, I went down our basement and found a man and woman in uniform, they looked like a construction workers inspecting my whole entire furnace area, I right away became irate and asked them for their id's (hidden inside their jackets) they show me the ID that said "morEnergy" I told them you are not from Enbridge company, I want you both out of my house, you're an impostor and if you don't go, I will call the Police..their nerves of barging in to my house...pretending to be Enbridge employee...I was soo upset, furious of invading our privacy. I don't know how to stop this con-artist...i am writing the entire story to warn you all....please ask for id right away, and even if they are a legit Enbridge employee still check their badge, let them wait outside (do not let them in) then call Enbridge...if it's during night time - do not let them in at all...in this case it was my son that they've tricked, well it was a learning experience for him...I would like to share this horrible and scary experience, so beware of the skunk (morEnergy) con artist..

Note that Enbridge or any legit company doesn't come knocking on your door unexpectedly...the only time they will show up at your door step is only when you call them for a service. Hope this helps!
