Should I wait or get FTA?

Hi,

I am deciding weather it is a good time to get FTA right now and cancel cable.
People are telling me to wait since 1yr ago and said that they are going to change.

Should I wait?
I would need someone to install it. Any recommendations?
any sites I can read more about it?

My suggestion is to get it if you can find it for $100 and under (Viewsat). The reason I say this is because if you get 1-2 months out of it, you'll have got your money's worth and more.

Do a search on "Niagara 3". From what I read briefly, BEV has already completed the change and DN is in the process as well.

I still have most of my DN channels, but a good number of them no longer work.

If you held out this long, I would hold off on buying an FTA unit. No one really knows when they will complete the full change or when someone will crack the new N3 cards as the genius who's cracked them before now works for DN I believe.

So .... get one of those HD antenna's ... at least you have something ;)

Wait, The change over has started, right now it's hard to tell what will happen..

Best case scenario is that the last time this change occured (back in 2005-2006, change from N1 to N2) it took 2-3 months to get up and running..

But I wouldn't put any money down at this stage of the game

Some blogs say it's cracked some don't. Best to wait it out. I think theyve been trying to crack this since Direct TV switched. Which was a loooong time ago.

Standalone receivers won't work once N3 is fully implemented. However IKS receivers like Nfusion and Dreambox are currently running BEV and will probably be running DN when they are done their conversion to N3.

The logical answer would be too wait it out, but if you want/need tv now, then go with IKS.

N3 conversion is close for DN, hopefully after that the crack will come and we'll get BEV + DN back relatively fast.

Nobody knows for sure what IKS' weaknesses are because they have never been exposed as of yet. Everyone is just making assumptions that IKS can be traced through your IP address, but nobody has been arrested or convicted. So everything that is being said about IKS is all hearsay until proven otherwise. Sure there are potential weaknesses with IKS but there is also weaknesses with standalone. Neither system is perfect.

From what I have read on various FTA forums, Nfusion's servers are supposedly located in underground China. Well last I heard, the US and Cdn governments don't have any jurisdiction in China. I am not sure where Dreambox's servers are located.

We'd like to add a receiver or 2 but are going to hold off for now. In a couple months, all will be revealed when those who've talked the talk will have to walk the walk.
If you must, you might want to get something like a Viewsat Pro which you can use as a PVR and stock up on stuff to watch from your hard drive for awhile when it all goes down.
I understand (but havent tried) that you can also use these receivers as an ATSC convertor for the new OTA digital signals that your older tvs wont be able to receive. So it may not be a total paperweight anyways.

I have been reading in the private forums that N3 and Direct has been cracked, not being released because dish has not fully implemented the swap. So if we can wait until mid summer it will be out(once the money has been paid).

Also hearing May 27th is the day n2 will be turned off!

If you have a digital tuner and don't care about specialty channels, try OTA. There are a couple of threads for this also. Then you can give Rogers the big middle finger (legally). :D

a receiver only costs you a little more than 100 bucks, 3 months subscription fee for basic channels...why wait?

Try going with OTA as opposed to FTA & you will be surprised how many free HD channels you can get .

You don't have to worry about receiver's etc with OTA.

"At 8:25 pm 31 Mar an extreme reliable source watched the Digital store in Newmarket Ontario, as XXXX, (Digital) a male in a dark blue suit talked and appeared to be signing documents as two younger guys, disconnected several pieces of electronic equipment boxed them and then moved them into the vehicles a Budget rental cube van and a dark sedan at the rear of the store.

The Digital stores, (6 locations), all closed suddenly yesterday, and the nFusion server for B3V went black.

For those who don't know XXXX, (digital) is the Canadian distributor for nFusion and as also nFusion Canada.

There were also two other dealers "visited" yesterday in the Toronto area. Maxx Electronics and RTC Electronics. Again equipment was removed and the MAXX website now lists NO products available under the NEOsat, nFusion and Captain brands. These two dealers are affiliated and their "raids" were for a different reason although MAXX was well known for selling nFusion clones.

This is NOT good news.

Also two well known forums have disappeared form the web in the last 24 hours one is completely gone and the other shows a white page with the message
