I have a fairly large lawn up here in London Ontario (about 17,000 square feet). The grass is mostly Kentucky Blue and Fescue. I've already fertilized and seeded the lawn (over 1 week ago) and would like to apply some weed control to it (not by hand). Any recommendations for weed control to cover my lawn? I'm guessing some water hose attachment type solution. Also last year we had a small case of grub / sinch bugs near an evergreen tree. I wouldnt mind a solution for that too.

I've heard of Weedex but am not sure of its affectiveness.

Thanks

Weedex and the stuff for grub / sinch bugs are on the banned list, Is there anything else that would work on weeds other then doing it by hand?

My brother used to get Weedout (http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/2/OutdoorLiving/FertilizersGrassSeed/WeedControl/PRDOVR~0593960P/CIL%2BAttach-and-Spray%2BWeedOut.jsp) so i may go for that this year (3 containers totalling < $40). We dont seem to have weeds so maybe its a-ok?

If you have recently seeded your lawn I would advise you to wait sometime before using any weed killer as it will also kill the grass seeds . It will prevent these grass seeds from germinating .

Weed Killers won't kill existing mature grass but they do have adverse effects on grass seeds & new tender grass which has just sprouted from grass seeds.

So wait sometime before applying it & let the grass seeds grow fully into grass.

The best weed control is a vigorous and healthy lawn that crowds out weeds. This is actually much easier said than done.

If you had just finished over-seeding your lawn, I wouldn't apply any weed control yet until the seedlings are well established and have had their first couple of mows. Kentucky Bluegrass would take a few weeks to germinate and another few weeks to get established. The Fescue would take about half the time. In the meantime, it's better to pull out any weeds by hand or spot kill them with a selective herbicide. If you apply weed control on your entire lawn now, the lawn seeds may not germinate properly or you may experience significantly lower germination rate. Sparse patches on your lawn can form leaving room for weeds to invade.

I thought the "good" stuff was banned across Ontario (both for sale and use). All that's left is corn gluten and strong vinegar
