Hi all,

I did a search and seems like no one did a review on this Korean BBQ that's located in Richmond Hill (In the plaza where Destiny, Marlow, Moxie is). It's not a bad place, so I've decided to take a few pics when I went there again tonight.

We took a chance the first time for their late night special, $11.99/person, grill only and it turned out great. The grill was really nice and hot so that the food gets cooked quickly without drying out, compare to the others that have weak and uneven fire.

When we went again tonight, but at the regular dinner hour. The price was $18.99/person. There are way more food than the late night special. One really annoying part that's worth mentioning - No drinks are included, only water is. Perhaps they expect people to go to destiny after since they belongs to the same company?

Service
Their service is decent to great. Everyone is polite and smiling, and feels like they want to be there. However, they sometimes try too hard with their not-so-fluent english that it actually confuses us. The orders came very quickly, but not too accurate. All the sushi (cooked food) didn't come in the first order. We had to check with the waiter not once, but twice to get them. When they finally came, it's all wrong. Alright, it's AYCE, so we'll jsut finish that and order it again. So when we order it again, the waiter didn't write down anything, just nod to whatever we said. 5 mins later, he brought out all these random dishes at random quantity. This part actually bugged us that I had to confirm with the waiter if he wants us to write down our order instead. It might just be for that particular waiter that's having a bad night. Overall, service is great.

Environment
The place itself is nicely lit up. Nicely renovated and very clean. Seats are not tight and table has enough space for everything in the menu.

Food
The foods are great. The selection is a little more than what other Korean BBQ offers:

As mentioned, their grill is nice and hot, so that the food turns out to be much better than any other grill places. The meat are marinated properly and not too salty. Vegetables are fresh. The quantity of each dish is in a good portion so that you don't need to end up wasting food (given if you didn't order too much). Overall, it's a "good".

Just to share some pictures:

Conclusion
I would give them a 9/10 rating, and would not hesitate to go again. I've went twice, and it's been great both times. Service is consistant, and so is the food.

I am not good at writing reviews, so it's a brief one. If someone can chime in and add their opinion, that would be wonderful.

I'm surprised too because the last time I took a camera to a restaurant, a waitress abused my trust .....

I didn't like chako that much

Thanks!

Appearently they didn't say anything about me and my camera. ;) I think they expect people to take pictures during dinner. With the increasing popularity of DSLR, it would be quite silly to ban DSLR just because it "makes" you look like a professional. Also, in this application of my photos, it's actually free advertisement for them!

You sure you weren't taking pictures of the waitress? :cheesygri

What don't you like about chako, mind sharing?

+1 for Chako. Been there several times, much cleaner than other Korean BBQ places in my opinion.

But I'd rather have lunch, for $9.99 Monday to Sunday. Don't get as many choices of food as dinner for sure but will do for me. You still get beef, pork, chicken, ribs and fish plus other sides.

No complaint for this price for sure for the food quality and environment.

I tried convincing my gf to go there last time we were there, ended up at the Keg. She had said Chako might be another typical KBBQ place...

Apparently not from your review, thanks Chris! Now I know where to go next time we go for dinner! Question, what the heck is Spicy Raw Fish Roll next to the Spicy Salmon Roll? Is it like, raw fish of the day... ?

Btw Chris, you wouldn't happen to have the receipt for the 17-55 lens I got from you would you? LoL!

Regarding chako, I like more flavourful foods. I just found the foods to be plain. Just take the meats, seafoods and grill ...

Thanks!

Hey cy, I have never tried this place but may be I will give it a try after reading your review....

Just a question...Do they use different marinade to marinate different meats? I find it when KBBQ restaurants use one single marinade for all meats, I will get bored real soon...

What is the Spicy Raw Fish Roll? It's so vague!

Thanks OP... great pics, good review! This made me missed the steak that they used to serve at their previous SilverStar location.

i wanted to try this place and went during the winter time, the selection is so limited and the food didnt taste so fresh

the place is empty most of the time, it used to be more popular with great selections but i hear they had to get rid of all of things to save cost

i would never go back again cause this place isnt a great kbbq place

I personally enjoy Chako very much as well. The prices are fair considering they offer KBBQ along with a bit of sushi rolls.

Chako is MUCH cleaner than the other KBBQ's I used to go to and offer more of a selection. Whenever me and my friends go, I always tell the ladies that they serve more than just meat (sushi, pineapples, zuchinis, mushrooms, green peppers) to try and entice them to go too (they don't like pure meat).

i find chako to be pretty good, but i dont go during regular hours since i find it too pricey, their late night special starting at 10pm on weekdays is 9.99 which is pretty good.

it's actually spelled chako's'

neways, yeha this place offers more food variety than other kbbq places. chakos gives sushi, vegetables, mussels, pineapple (grilled pineapple tastes great), and i think 4 different dessert items which i usually get like 5-6 bowls of mango ice cream...lol

I dont generally like KBBQ but if I had to choose one it would be Chako.
The grill here is way better than Korean Grill House and there is a wider selection. I also like how they have veggies so you are not just eating meat.

This place is also well ventilated which means you dont smell like BBQ when you leave.

I went to Chako back in NOvember last year. I don't know if it still advertises as 'izakaya', but I went there because of that..and came out very disappointed..I never thought that izakaya would be kbbq.

Bumping this as it's a good review (and there's a current thread seeking review), it's a nice alternative to Korean Grill House as the food there (to me) is much saltier.

Thanks for the great pics! I'm drooling right now. Is all the food unlimited or do I have to pay more for the seafood? I could eat 3 lbs of the ribs alone!

Pity it's not AYCE already cooked food ... my friends kept taking the pieces I've cooked, so I'm forever cooking but never getting to eat ... ;-)
