Would depend on a few factors.

1) Full sun, partial sun, full shade?
2) When you say dirt, Dry dusty? hard clay? top soil?

I have a partial shaded/sun front lawn and the best results that I have had is Scotts Contractor Grade large bag from Home Depot. It's about 22lb bag for $50, covers a large area several times over.

I picked up some "Eco-Lawn (http://www.wildflowerfarm.com/index.php?p=catalog&parent=4&pg=1)" seeds this past weekend, and I'll be overseeding/patching my lawn today & tomorrow. I haven't tried the grass yet, but it looks interesting.

Rona, Home Depot and Canadian Tire now carry something like this too -- http://greenearth.ca/products/product_e.php?category=100

Anyone have experience with scott's sun and drought "special" premium seeds? Does it contain more than just the regular kentucky bluegrass? I used that last year and the spot i spreaded it grows those wild-grass-like "weeds" It's sun drought for sure, but not exactly what i wanted. Are those premium grass (that and the traffic intensive) composed of other "tough" grass, aka weeds?

I would try a nursery/garden/plant store. There is one near us selling it for $2.97 per roll.
