Being a good RFDer, I went for the free coffee.
I find that it tastes more watery, a la Tim Hortons. :(
I remember it being much better before. Do others find this also? Has it changed?

I think it's not too far from where Timmies is. Not as rich / strong in flavor as the more specialty places like Second Cup and Sbucks, but not awful by any stretch.

interesting you mentioned this. I just had a free coffee on Friday (didn't even know it was free, I ordered the coffee/muffin special and it only came out to $1+ for the muffin).
The coffee was closer to Timmies but I figured it might be because of the sheer volume of people wanting free coffee that it was different.
Plus I don't like their new cups. For some reason I find it harder to drink with that higher spout. The old cup was good.

As someone who has McDonalds Coffee far more frequently than Tim Horton's...it is stronger than Tim Horton's, though not a dark roast by any means. Tim hortons is a very light roast and probably the blandest coffee out there.
Over the past 2 years, McDonalds Coffee has improved dramatically..

I hope they didn't change it. McDonald's coffee is actually not too bad (after they changed it a few years back)

I've been drinking the new stuff since they changed.
I have noticed that it tastes slightly less flavourful during the promo but I thought it was just me. I think one possibility is that they are making more of it so it is sitting longer to answer the volume and it's losing some of it's punch. Happens with any coffee.

I usually spend around 3-4 hours in the morning to finish my coffee. With Tim's, the coffee change to a sour taste after 1/2 an hour or so but McDo's lasts me for the entire time.

McDonald's coffee is has always been good, VERY good. It's sad that they actually take on Tim Hortons by lowering their bar. If you ask me, let those who buy "double double" stay away, they don't even know what coffee is all about.

I think it has changed some. Not quite as good, but still far better than Timmie's which I find just unpalatable.

Have to admit I've been drinking the free coffee this week at McDonalds and quite enjoy it. Doesn't seem to have the caffeine blast of Timmie's but has a better taste. Going for another this am.

I'm thinking the reverse. Perhaps they're brewing too quickly and that is affecting taste?

my sentiments exactly.
Hopefully after the promo, it'll return back to how it should taste.

I've tried this a couple times thus far and I must say I actually like it.
Have to try it out a few times to see if it's just that it's 'free' that makes it tasty or if it really is.
I don't like the new lids though. Can't stalk two cups and walk away :(...
Being a good RFDer, I went for the free coffee...
A good RFDer would go in and ask for multiple cawfees, citing 'for a friend, for freinds, for dad'. A bad RFDer would actually drink them all themself!

I don't notice a huge difference. My friend asked me how different is the new McDonald's coffee and I told him that is it just a cup change...:)

as far as i can remember, when i was a kid in the early 90s, before tim hortons boom, mcdonalds was always known as having BY FAR the worst coffee ever....i would go with my family for bfast on the weekend sometimes and my parents and like everyone else in the place all said the coffee was soo bad that they couldnt even drink it..
although i have heard that mcdonlads coffee has been good for the last 4-5 yrs or so..

This is EXACTLY my point. McDonald's coffee has ALWAYS been underrated by people who don't even know what coffee is about. If you think again about how Tim Hortons could "boom" at all, this tells A LOT.

A while ago I remember reading a nation wide taste test, and McDonalds ended up having the best coffee. I can't remember what chains were involved, but I do remember Starbucks was one of them. I don't drink coffee, so I can't really remember all the details.

McorganDonor's coffee is a well kept secret. Yet I never think of going there because the atmosphere is so anti-coffee it just doesnt appeal to me. i prefer a more cozy mellow place like 2nd Cup/charbucks. The tacky plastic furniture, bright flourescent lights, and plethora of octogenarians sucking on a coffee through their dentures for 2 hrs while reading the paper, just kill it for me.
Atmosphere is huge because otherwise I'd rather make a latte at home and save my $ and have a superior drink.
Although McDiabetes's still great for drive thru (except for late at night when it seems you cant get through drive thru in less than 15 mins at McD's.).
I dont get the hype around TH's. They use 18% cream, so I suspect that may have something to do with it.

I don't drink coffee, so I can't really remember all the details Toronto Life Magazine IIRC. MCD's beat TH, Charbux and another place.

I'd have to agree with others that McD's coffee is a lot better than in the past, and much better than the crap TH serves. I'm a bit of a coffee snob and was surprised that I didn't spit out the coffee in disgust. Of course, it doesn't compare to 100% Kona Peaberry but for free, who's complaining? :cheesygri

Pretty much every bean on North American shelves the past 10 years have been fair trade. Fair trade just means that the coffee plantation owners are being paid a fair, market value amount for their beans. It doesn't say anything about the quality of the beans and is all just marketing. It would be quite difficult to find beans that aren't fair trade at this point, and we're talking like super cheap beans here.

I think you are confusing some terms here, free trade does not equal fair trade. If you are talking about Fair Trade I'd love to see something to backup your claim.

I know some people don't like Starbucks but I do and it strikes me that it's objectively better beans than Timmies, McD's et al. But some people find it over-roasted etc and that's fine.
Personally, I think Tim Horton's is the most overrated product in the entire market (not just the coffee market, the ENTIRE market). If you take it double-double it's certainly drinkable but as coffee I find it pretty ghastly. Clever marketing, but their coffee has about as much quality as a McDonald's hamburger. Tis what is is.
I have no idea the last time I had McD's coffee but I did yesterday and it's very solid indeed - much better than TH's, IMHO.
Obviously there's a certain "chacun son gout" here and it's not "gourmet" like espresso but it's a good, everyday coffee which is more than you can say for a lot of what's out there.

Had my fourth day of McD's coffee yesterday. First time it was BITTER. 4.9/10 bitter :(..Blekhh!!!!
What's worse, the goombas put the spout in the same place as where the cup had the seam on the rim. This caused it to drip down. Good thing I was standing so it missed me entirely, but I was definately MIFFED. It didn't seem like a defect (I'll test today), my solution was to ensure the spout was positioned on the OPPOSITE side of the lip of the rim, that way there's no gaps and hence....NO SPILL.....is that so difficult to manage?
I do think I'm a convert mind you.
Can someone give me the price difference between a Timmies LTT, and Breakfast sausage sandwich, and the McD's LTT and their breakfast sandwich?

Very True...
Even Tim Horton's is not Fair Trade. Look at the Annual Report, they are working to develop sustainable coffee...why, right in the document it says it is not as expensive. Nor does it say that this is how all of their coffee is treated.

Unfortunately your friends are slightly confused. :|
I've been having the McDs coffee and I find it hasn't been as good before this promo event started ... I is definately do to them making the coffees before the order and having them just sit there for a bit.
