I'm wondering if the leftmost 4 buttons on this TE layout can be used for the game. From the main website broshure, it looks like the curve is deeper than what TE has (similar to the hori arcade pro layouts)

I'm not even going to bother with Blazblue. I've given Guilty Gear plenty of chances (in particular, Guilty Gear X for DC and XX ^ Core for PS2) and it's just brutally difficult. lol. Blazblue is from the same developers and looks almost the same as Guilty Gear so it probably wouldn't be any different difficulty-wise. Considering that a very complex fighting simulation like UFC 2009 Undisputed can get away with simple control inputs, I don't see why 2D fighters require crazy complicated inputs and super reflexes. If you suck at fighting games Bonks, Blazblue is going to be hell for you if it's anything like Guilty Gear. Street Fighter II, Soulcalibur and some others I can't think of right now would be more suitable for novices.

I'm still undecided between this and KOF12. I haven't played either since the first Guilty gear, and I can't even remember what that was like, and I haven't played KOF12 since Fatal Fury.

I'm determined to get one of them, but i haven't seen any arcade of either. hopefully a demo will come out soon. That Premium Package of blazblue seems pretty tempting.

its because its made for japanese people first, and they like intensly difficult execution games (shoot em ups, puzzle games etc)I think Guilty Gear was meant for hardcore Japanese fighting gamers, not necessarily Japanese gamers in general. Guilty Gear is a niche fighter in North America but it's also the case in Japan as well if you look at sales. I looked at vgchartz and Guilty Gear XX did 160,000 in Japan apparently. The most popular titles in Japan (ie. Pokémon) are not that hard. Except for maybe the Dragon Quest series, which wasn't that difficult for me since I'm used to jRPGs but most people would probably go nuts playing a game like that.

If Gamestop (US) has it, then I'm fairly certain that Gamestop (CA) and EBGames would have it in their system too. For a game like this, you might not ever see it in FS or Walmart.

I wouldn't trust amazon.ca to send out a limited edition unless it was specifically stated. A lot of people got screwed out of SF4 Limited Editions because they wanted to save a few bucks by ordering on amazon.

Limited Edition Content
The initial run of BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger is actually pretty special, as there's no Standard Edition to be found. That's right: the first copies of BlazBlue will all be Limited Edition. You get the game in its fancy packaging, a two-disc soundtrack full of some fantastic music and a bonus Blu-ray filled with helpful tutorial information -- all for the price of a standard retail game. This really blows other Limited Editions out of the water, considering how both pack-ins are not only "free" but are actually worth getting.

Eventually, BlazBlue will have a Standard Edition run which I will examine when the time comes. But for now, everyone buying BlazBlue gets a very nice package with some great character art on the outside. I think the artbook is exclusive to online preorders from ebgames.com. I'm not surprised that they don't know about the artbook.

there is no regular version on the first run, so if you get the game this week, it will be the LE edition.

For anyone who is interested, the artbook itself is not very enticing IMHO. I only got it because my gf wanted it.

I haven't really had a chance to dive into the game yet, but it seems fun so far. I will probably main Bang Shishigami because he is homage to super robot protagonist's.

Its decent. About 12 pages or so. Its mostly about character profiles and a few "cool-pose" pages. Not as incredible as the Knights in the nightmare one. Its not hardcover. I like ost though if you are into metal type of music.

Eb's shipping is fast though. They shipped it on Monday and got it by Tuesday 12pm

I hope they got enough shipments to cover some of the bigger stores, so maybe it will be the smaller stores that don't get it. Though no copies for the whole ottawa region is kinda ridiculous.

I wish that there was some serious competition for eb in canada, maybe then they'd clean up their act. And after this I think im going to be sticking to ordering online, and maybe some of the smaller local stores instead of eb. Atleast some of them they're getting the game in.

I guess I'll just update people with my progress in trying to find it, maybe it will help some people out.
EB square one is saying next week, erinmills&dixie didn't get it in today either. Heartland probably is in the same boat (although they said they'd have no extra copies other then preorders, maybe that will change.)

Which is right around the time the regular release is supposed to ship. My local EB told me that the regular edition was pushed back to fall. I called bs. IMO, they aren't getting the LE (Aksys likely didn't want to localize the packaging to include both English and French) and therefore Canada is likely only getting the regular edition. They probably feed us this BS story to prevent us from buying from the US to get the LE. That's my theory.

So I ordered the LE from ebay.

as a side note, early reviews for KOFXII aren't good so don't be too hasty with that one.

Got a limited edition for 360 from Gamerama just north of Yonge/Eglinton, there was another kid there getting it for PS3. They had at least a few more copies, the guy said some were on hold but that he was considering selling them (which would be a dick move, but whatever).

Came to $77 after tax, and we had him show us the wholesale price to show that he wasn't trying to screw us on markup. Their markup was only $4, I think it was $64 wholesale or something. So, don't be expecting to get the standard edition price in Canada, because it looks like it's not happening here. Don't know if it's the distributor that's doing the screwing, but it doesn't seem to be the retailers.

Also, weeeeeak that it's not even a proper single case or tin or whatever. It's just the standard edition, plus a second case with all three discs crammed on one nub, with a paper box to contain the two cases.

I pre-ordered the SF4CE and was really disappointed. The status shifted to indefinite on the day of the ship date and I was really excited in getting my copy as well. In the end, I canceled the order and just bought a copy at Future Shop.

I'm not saying Amazon.ca is bad, since they never failed in shipping me books. However, games and especially limited editions have me very worried. I placed an order, but the ETA is July 15-30. As of now, its a race to see whether Amazon can ship it faster than I can grab the standard edition on the 30th of July.

I ordered Gears of War 2 LE when the price was like $55 couple of weeks after release, also used the $10 off coupon using new account they had so got it for $45 and received it couple days later.

Also got Fable II LE during the Boxing Day sale when it was $42 and received it day before New Year's eve.

But those were in stock that time so it might be different. This game is in small supply so Amazon (and other stores) may have a tough time fulfilling all orders.

That's what I was afraid of. It's going to be SF4CE all over again T_T. I pre-ordered late from EB so I wont be able to get my copy. Since Futureshop and Best Buy don't even have it in their systems, I'm royally screwed for getting this game.

I've been hearing a lot of different things, like Best Buy getting the LE on Monday. However, they usually have the games on their systems way ahead of time. I'll check it out just in case, but I don't have any high hopes.

Another option would be to order off of Playasia or Yesasia. However, the price is ridiculous. In Canadian dollars, it will cost somewhere around $109, which is way more than what I want to pay for a video game.

Some users on gamefaqs have used Playasia or Yesasia and received their copies of BlazBlue LE on time and before the shortage. The problem with the 2 sites above is that they will charge you once you place your order as opposed to amazon which charges you when they ship.

I don't want to pay that much for a game so I'm going to wait it out to see if Amazon.ca ships it to me.

Same situation here. I've also been hearing mixed responses of whether EB will be getting a second shipment. The Clerk told me that there may be a second shipment, while some other users are saying that there will be no second shipment since the LE is a one print thing.

I honestly don't know who to believe but right now I'm just going to patiently wait it out. They are 5 copies short until they reach me on the pre-order list and no other places besides EB sell BlazBlue LE. Smaller chains like Microplay do, but they are way too far for me to travel to.

Also, I'm not even certain Future Shop or Best Buy will carry the regular edition. They usually have the title in their systems weeks prior to the release of a game, so employees know when the release date is for an item and when they are allowed to sell it (I use to work for Best Buy). So what I', saying is that it's really strange that the system has no traces of the game LE or SE.

Cheers for those who have the game now and good luck for those who don't. I certainly am beat and just going to wait it out. When the SE comes out, I'll use my pre-order to grab if Amazon.ca doesn't ship.

Same situation here. I've also been hearing mixed responses of whether EB will be getting a second shipment. The Clerk told me that there may be a second shipment, while some other users are saying that there will be no second shipment since the LE is a one print thing.

I honestly don't know who to believe but right now I'm just going to patiently wait it out. They are 5 copies short until they reach me on the pre-order list and no other places besides EB sell BlazBlue LE. Smaller chains like Microplay do, but they are way too far for me to travel to.

Also, I'm not even certain Future Shop or Best Buy will carry the regular edition. They usually have the title in their systems weeks prior to the release of a game, so employees know when the release date is for an item and when they are allowed to sell it (I use to work for Best Buy). So what I', saying is that it's really strange that the system has no traces of the game LE or SE.

Cheers for those who have the game now and good luck for those who don't. I certainly am beat and just going to wait it out. When the SE comes out, I'll use my pre-order to grab if Amazon.ca doesn't ship.


yeah i really don't know what to believe. MY EB told me not to worry as I will be getting the Limited Edition, but others are telling me that its not happening. IT just sucks that the whole reason why I pre ordered the thing like a month ago was to get the limited edition. I guess EB isn't really the one to blame for not producing more copies. I think I lucked out because the "Buy it Now" that I found didn't have the console in the title. It said it was the Blazblue Limited Edition, new and sealed, but didn't have 360 anywhere in the title.

My guess is that a lot of people either searched "Blazblue 360" or "Blazblue PS3", and this auction got missed out on.

At any rate, I was just glad to see that someone actually had it listed at true value, rather than the ridiculous 30-40% markup everyone else had on their buy it now auctions.

Received my copy today and I was really surprised at how fast it got here. I ordered from Videogameplus.ca on the 7th at around noon, and got my copy at around 4pm on the 8th. It was 79.99 plus tax and 2.99 shipping and the total was $93.

WTF $130 that's ridiculous. This SE is supposed to be regular price at retail, $69.99. I can understand the $79 premium that some places are charging, but even after taxes that becomes a $90 game which makes it a hard bullet to swallow.

Honestly, the extras in the SE isn't worth more than a $10 premium. You get one extra dvd case, which contains 2 soundtrack cd's (which you can download) and a tutorial dvd (which you will probably watch/fastforward once and never again). THAT'S IT.

It's not even a steelcase, it's just a plastic sleeve to keep the two cases together.

The promo pictures make the PS3 version look very very sexy, but when you actually take a close look at the extras you're getting, it really adds up to very little.

1)You have 2 copies, 1 of which is your buddies which he refused to take (?) and decided to go out and look for one on his own knowing that it will be pretty hard find. Are you sure you didn't just try to sell it to him for $130 and he was smart enough to refuse?

2)You spent $20 on gas. $20 is just under 3/4 of a tank on a standard car. You must've really been cruisin around. Even if you did, technically it would be $10 per game then.

3)You're charging $130 for it. That's not "a little high", that's close to double. This is a friggin' video game guys, it's not going to make your life any better spending just under double retail when you can just wait a couple weeks and not regret it.

Honestly, the extras in the SE isn't worth more than a $10 premium. You get one extra dvd case, which contains 2 soundtrack cd's (which you can download) and a tutorial dvd (which you will probably watch/fastforward once and never again). THAT'S IT.

It's not even a steelcase, it's just a plastic sleeve to keep the two cases together.

The promo pictures make the PS3 version look very very sexy, but when you actually take a close look at the extras you're getting, it really adds up to very little.

Yea the things inside may not be worth it but, it's still limited edition regardless, you're just being nit picky.

According to you we shouldn't watch movies in theaters, lets just wait to DL it for free and games with the metal case and the step by step documentary of how the game was made is much more worth the 10-20 dollars you pay to get the "collectors edition".

IMO i think you should cancel your Amazon.ca order, they're pretty unreliable when it comes to pre-orders and shipping on time. They still have Fight Night Round 4 status as "shipping 1-2 months" and that game has been out for 3 weeks and available everywhere but Amazon don't have in stock.

If they're not going to receive copies no point taking too many orders for it. Whatever copies they expect to receive is amount of orders they should take and remove the listing once reaches it's quota.

I'm going to cancel my Amazon.ca order since i HIGHLY doubt they will receive it...they're screwing customers just like with SFIV CE.

IMO i think you should cancel your Amazon.ca order, they're pretty unreliable when it comes to pre-orders and shipping on time. They still have Fight Night Round 4 status as "shipping 1-2 months" and that game has been out for 3 weeks and available everywhere but Amazon don't have in stock.

If they're not going to receive copies no point taking too many orders for it. Whatever copies they expect to receive is amount of orders they should take and remove the listing once reaches it's quota.

There really is no point in cancelling Amazon orders. They don't charge you until they ship. And let's say it does ship and you already bought a copy, you can send it back for a full refund (just print off a shipping label, drop it off at the post office, and it's done). You don't have to pay anything.

I find that for Canadapost regular parcel mail from Toronto to Vancouver it takes about 14 calendar days (10 business days) to arrive so it should come in either today or tomorrow. I don't include the day it shipped in the calculation.

Received mine from VGP today it came in a regular bubble envelope but luckly the outer box wasn't damaged or creased. I opened the box and one of the bonus discs (one of the soundtrack cd's) in the Blu-ray case was loose but no scratches.

Just got my copy today from VGP! And I just ordered yesterday... sweet! One benefit of living in Toronto... close proximity to many businesses :D.

It came in a box, not an envelope... newspaper crumples around it to keep it in place. Came in perfect quality, no bends or nothing, factory sealed. I couldn't be more pleased... going to be using VGP more often now. If they have any more copies and I'm close to my computer when I iknow, I'll post here in case some people still are looking for a copy. I just got lucky :o

Any fighting game can be played as a button masher if you don't know what you are doing. That's why every fighting game comes with a training mode..

As for the voice overs... they can get a little annoying. It's a very Japanese game... but it also has more personality than any other fighting game I've ever played, which is why I personally love it.

My order with Amazon is still active but I have a feeling it will never actually ship. Glad I got my copy from VGP. Just makes me wonder if Amazon is even trying to get more copies though...

Liking the story/narrative is a subjective matter.

As for finishing moves, there are distortion finishes which uses half of the Heat Bar (bar at bottom) or Astral Finishes, which use the entire heat bar and can only be used when your opponent has less than 20% health and it's the final round of the fight (if I recall correctly)... they are pretty badass, look cooler than MK's fatalities, but unofrtunately no Babalities or Friendship :(

I got the game last week. I like it, but haven't played too much since I'm bit absorbed into the rtts in MLB 09, and still play a lot of street fighter 4.

Online is great an smooth, and it's nice to see that you don't have play against people that assign moves to a single button, and not play unlimited characters online.

There seems to be a good backstory, and I find that cat girl funny.

What I did to offset cost of the game was to sell off the extra bundle for $40. I have no use for the soundtrack and as decent as the video may be. It's a little hard to practice in the game and watch it at the same time. That and I got a copy of it through a torrent site.

While I haven't played either yet and I'm somewhat biased, I'm gonna say BB is a better game than KOFXII. XII got destroyed by Famitsu: 5,5,7,5, and I'm sure they had similar beef with it as some other long time fans like myself.

XII is actually a regression in the series. Kyo, Robert, and Andy used to be shotos but SNK changed their movesets later on. But in XII, they've reverted back to their original shoto moveset. That's kind of lame, plus there are already other shotos in the game. Which is not great given this is a smaller cast than a typical KOF.

System is not as deep as before. In something like 98 they had types like Alpha 3's "isms" which lets you play differently. The offensive types were more mobile, could increase their attack lvls, and build their DM meter by attacking while the defensive types build it by charging or turtling and had more dodging inputs. There's nothing like that in XII. There's no character switching on the fly or assist combos either. So there's much less depth and again it's a regression despite that I personally prefer the no switching.

If you only had cash for one game, I'd take BB. But I like the series and I'll pick it up and support it even if it's only a HD KOF lite. If you've never played KOF before though, you probably won't miss the stuff I've talked about. If you're new to the series then it's a good entry point as the extra system stuff in later KOFs were kind of overwhelming for a newbie.

I'm currently in Hong Kong and I saw a couple copies of Blazblue the regular version at some stores but the writing on the back is Japanese. The game says it can play in Japanese and English. So if I bought it and brng it and played it back on North American PS3, I just need to switch the language settings and it would work as if it were a North American copy?

It will play fine... I have Initial D that I bought in HK {Jap Version} and I can play online with it just fine. (With all continents)

I only played this game for about an hour, and it's been good so far.
Lots of action on the screen, I can almost get a seizure from all the stuff going on :lol:

I'll try to play this more and less SF4 as this game has its own style that I enjoy.

And saving attack is pretty balance on both defensively and offensively, if youre only using it for cancels then, theres definitly something wrong.

As for the timing and linking combos, I main Rachael in BB and Ryu in SF4, I find that BB is alot more strict on the inputs than SF4, and the buffering does not work as well as SF4.

I dont suggest the use of controller on BB if you are looking for standard online play, because you wont be able to pull off alot of stuff off it.

the thing about blazblue is that; its not a chess game like street fighter, it requires chain damage input like MvC once you caught your opponent off their tail. But the control and timing is not as forgiven as MvC.

Usually a match will end in 3 complete combos.

The closest thing to a Roman Cancel is a Rapid Cancel in BB, used to cancel attack animations to continue combos that wouldn't otherwise be possible.

While you may be correct, using the barrier does prevent chip damage. And if you've got a tick of HP left, then saving your ass really is the primary use of barrier.

I went to Bestbuy by Scarborough Town Centre today, they had some copies (regular version) for ps3 and 360 (approx. 4 per system)

For the ps3 version, you have to ask for it, since the PS3 version wasn't on shelves

It sounds like Blazblue is pretty difficult to track down. I hate it when niche publishers (Aksys, ATLUS, Working Designs when they were around) deliberately release small batches of their games. This also makes these games ridiculously expensive when they are no longer in print because all the japanophile fanboys drive up the prices sky-high with their demand. I'm not keen on buying since I didn't like Guilty Gear but I wanted to at least try this. Given how difficult it is to buy this game, I suppose it's downright impossible to find this at a Blockbuster or Rogers Video for a rental? I'm not going to pay $60 US + whatever customs fees if I get dinged for a game that I could very well dislike given it's similarity to Guilty Gear.

This isn't like the situation with Phoenix Wright where the game became an unexpected cult hit. I just got mine delivered today (from ebay, BTW) and got hit by customs... Paid Taxes and Handling fee (full of crap...) I guess gave me a mercy on duty fee... so ya, all this for limited edition... my my. another $14.57 spent -.-;

Now need to wait for Artbook+Promo Disc to be delievered, hopefully no more custom fee horrors. Need to find a 'chibi folder'.

I put an order in, i'll let you know how it goes.

EDIT: Put in an order and he got back to me the same day w/ an invoice. Came up to 28$ USD for both the book and the folder after shipping! Very friendly guy! Would recommend to anyone wanting stuff from aksys online store don't bother paying eBay resellers.

From the looks of it, I'm guessing that amazon.ca won't be able to get it. I simply wished that they should have mentioned it on the BlazBlue Limited Edition page whether or not it was on "Backorder" or "In Stock" status. It was ambiguously misleading because neither of these 2 was shown on the page and the fact that it allows people to order them as if it was available and ready to ship.

Anyway today, I was so bored and went to EB Games Empress in Winnipeg to check if they have the PS3 Standard Editions. As usual, they were sold out. Normally I only check the PS2/PS3 Games section but alas, I was out of words when I checked the Xbox 360 section. This red ray of light suddenly shined through me and I saw one Xbox 360 Blazblue Limited Edition beside the Standard Editions for the same price which is $69.99. Without hesitation, I decided to buy the Xbox 360 version even though I did not have the unit in case amazon fails to ship it. I don't know if I should be happy or not though as I probably won't get a Jasper Xbox 360 until December :(.

In addition, I probably would not cancel my order on amazon because there is always a slight chance that they might get it one day and ship it sometime on "who knows when it will arrive."

When I was calling around the various retailers in winnipeg I noticed one general consensus. They all had copies for the 360 (LE or SE), but no one but PNP games had any copies at all for PS3 (only SE).

haven't had much time to play due to finals for summer school, but when i do have the chance to play i've been maining noel. it's taken me a few tries to beat v13 in arcade mode but nowhere near as long as it took me to beat seth (i was on normal mode) for SF IV -_-"

How are they supposed to play with the new characters and use the new moves if the 360 is REGION-LOCKED? (M$ and Nintendo need to stop with that nonsense and make all their systems Region-Free. DSi regressing to a Region-lock after GBA and DS gamers enjoyed region-free gaming for so long is BS) Aksys better make these extras available as DLC (even then, it's a spit in the face to people who bought the game already to end up paying more than the Europeans for the same game). This must be how Europeans must have felt for so long. lol. (Expensive mark up for games and having to modify their consoles just to play imports that were never released in Europe).

Blazblue's standard edition can be easily bought for $70 Canadian now (finally) but I want to rent it (no way Blockbuster and Rogers Video are going to carry niche titles like this), not buy it. So I'm still screwed. Gameaccess has it available for rent but since its a subscription mailing service, I bet you the queues for Blazblue are long as hell. No chance in hell you'd get to play that, even if you reserve it. I'm hoping that Blazblue will get cheap in the future (<= $30) but considering all the hardcore Japanophiles (who would kill their mother to obtain everything that is Japanese) hoarding this game, driving up demand and the limited copies on sale, I bet you this game is going to experience the Working Designs/ATLUS effect (used copies of rare niche games fetching for ridiculous prices on ebay). But I don't want to pay nearly $80 ($70 + tax) for a game I could very well dislike considering that I didn't like Guilty Gear (too hardcore for my tastes).

Cases like this illustrate why piracy is so attractive. If Aksys wants to become successful, they need to reach out more to the casual audience (and by casual, I don't mean someone who just plays mini-games. But someone who isn't hardcore into games like the pre-ordering, artbook-ordering Japanophile who takes their hobby very seriously). And you do that by giving the non-hardcore fan an opportunity to try before you shell out $80.

If you actually paid attention to what I said (I made a reference to the limited print runs from Working Designs and ATLUS), you'd know that I was familiar with these issues. If Aksys prints out a sufficient number of copies in the future and the game becomes reasonably available at rental outlets, I won't complain.

But if this turns out to be a Working Designs or ATLUS situation (doesn't always happen with their games but it's common) where games go out of print permanently FAST, which is very possible with Blazblue, then that is a problem. That's why you have games like Snatcher, Panzer Dragoon Saga and Skies of Arcadia going for $200+ now (emulation is your friend). I don't blame niche publishers like Aksys for being conservative with their estimates but they were clearly extremely conservative with their print run. Hopefully they'll start new print runs of reasonable volume but there are no guarantees.

FINALLY got my hands on this game, found a gutted copy in stock at a random EB Games (had to be at EB Games, I had a 70$ edge card from wolfenstein). I don't care about a game being gutted or not when I'm buying it to actually play it like blazblue.

The game is VERY fun, a VERY unique fighting game and a breath of fresh air! Will be playing it as much as possible before school starts.
