Never played Street Fighter in my life, planning to get it along with my PS3 this weekend.

One question, the really famous video Moment #37 with Daigo vs Justin..

Can someone tell me what was so special about Ryu blocking Chun-Li's special and countering it with Ryu's special? Is that like a insanely hard move to pull off? I just want to know what I'm missing out on, thanks.

I may be wrong since I wasn't into 3S as much, but from my experience to parry Chun-Li's special you have to anticipate the moment it comes out, and follow through with a specific timing (quite tough when I tried). It doesn't mean that only Daigo can do it, but it's pretty impressive feat considering it was tournament final and at pro level. (for average joes though, it's hard enough to get all of the timing right, and Daigo didn't have the hp to afford taking any hits at the time. Also to follow with a jump parry then a super, to me that's impressive in terms of execution)

In fact, Daigo is really good at reading people's moves, that's what makes him (and his current SFIV Ryu) so powerful.

EDIT: it was Ken, not Ryu ... in the 3S moment

Hm great explanation. So basically he had to know exactly when to block because if he gets caught in the combo, he is incapacitated for the duration.

I'm so pumped for SF4 on my PS3. :D

glad you're pumped...as the old saying goes: "practice makes perfect"
Even though I suck alot (aka my nick)...don't give up initially when you get owned all the time because it gets more fun eventually.

EDIT: just to add another thing, it wasn't really blocking.. in 3S you "parry" by pushing forward (and variations depends on high or low)...so you cant just hold back to block.
Imagine messing it up and walking into the super?

that's also why it's tough.

if you watch that video, daigo kept trying to anticipate an attack and parry it, u can see taht he keeps tapping forward when he thinks jwong is going to attack

jwong's cocky but you can't deny that he's dominated almost every game he plays competitively

another thing about his behaviour... notice how he walks away immediately after losing to Daigo (leaving Seth trying to find him on stage)...at least show some form of sportsmanship, mang!

Reason why I cheer on Daigo is cuz he keeps his cool at all times, and hardly trash talks.

Props to mike ross for getting that far with useless E.Honda

I play him myself on ranked :D He's utterly crap and every fight is an uphill battle, I'm stuck at 3500BP because I just can't beat those damn sagat scrubs! I guess even the best honda plateaus eventually.... Maybe it's time for someone new. Maybe rufus rofl

without a doubt, daigo embarassed jwong in front of thousands again :D
First its the full parry, now its the 5-0 streak.

Good thing he won to, I'd hate to see the show boating jwong prepared at home if he did win

Everytime I watch that I get goose bumps.. for real LOL

The skill that it takes to do a full parry on a super and then counter with an epic ending combo into a super... damn madness.

My favs out of those players are definitely Iyo and Poongko. Iyo has a very unique and effective style and Poongko is just exciting to watch. Daigo played well, as expected. Justin needs his ass kicked some more, what an arrogant jerk.

He's pretty much just as cocky as most of the SRK members. Actually, he's probably pretty close to cream of the crop of SRK member cockiness.

Probably going to RMA his TE to Madcatz for faulty PCB lol. Yeah he should have been a better sport about losing though. I'm surprised he even shaked the other guy's hand before going to unplug his fight stick and walking off.

i just watched the mike ross vid, if that was me i'd have punched him in the face

The first in your face trash talk after round 1 was inappropriate and I'm glad he got booed. Too bad he won in the end but I'm glad he got beat in the international finals.

Great match and I never knew how well Dhalsim could be played to be honest. I never really used him back in the day and I haven't really played SF4 that much but isn't throwing considered cheap? I remember back in the SF2 days whenever someone would throw the asian FOBs would yell "waaahhhh cheapo-ahhhhh"

some people still go by that rule, but I don't care. I mean throwing is put in the game to use, and if your opponent can't anticipate and tech out of it then too bad. Of course back in SF2 days you couldnt tech or anything so I guess that was considered cheap.

I still don't throw but I don't think throws are cheap these days since you can reverse and get out of them. Also, you don't lose a ton of health like in the old SF2 games.

Anyone here remember the Guile invisible throw? That was cheap. My buddy actually punched a kid for doing it repeatly during a match.

It is cheap but not as easy to pull off as a sonic boom but yeah it's cheap. There were also times when I use to freeze or "handcuff" the other guy to me and then I would leave and walk away from the machine. There is also a way to reboot the machine with Dhalsim too but these were the main glitches I remember from SF2 World Warrior.

Never used it on a human player but it was cool just to do it. I think there was a way to reboot with Guile too but my memory's kinda fuzzy now.

He wasn't blocking it, he parried it. To parry in SF3 you push fwd on the joystick just as it hits you (for blocking you just hold back). Its more difficult to parry obviously.

When you just block special/super moves you still lose some life. When you parry you don't lose any life.

As you can see in the vid, Ken has no life left, if he simply blocked the whole super he would've died. But instead he parried every single hit (tapping fwd in time with each kick) and then did another jump-parry and executed a super to finish off chun-li.
