not 100% sure this will work yet but it seems way cheaper than other things i've seen

Easycap USB - its like dazzle but like $60-70 cheaper $12 US

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5707

2 Splitters - to split audio feed to TV and others go to Easycap $2 US

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2711

And i watched this youtube video and he says he can still play in HD and record in SD with Xbox 360

If someone gets this to work on ps3, let me know.

I can see why it works on 360 because of the hdmi + component stuff. I'm not sure if it works on the ps3 doing the same thing with two video outputs doing sd+hd

the youtube link on first post

the guy says you can play in HD and record in SD

well you can't

It's 480p on component, so everything is blurry

and there is some movement lag, its not huge but its noticeable especially when i was trying to sneak up and knife people and they were running the controls wobbled and i got owned

Um, no, you can't do HD with that splitter.

I have this exact same capture device, but branded under the Sabrent. I bought it locally from the Tiger Direct Markham store:

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3504456&CatId=1428

The input choices are composite and svideo. It works good for youtube sized videos, though there tends to be a lot of tearing on fast action scenes.

The best I can hope for is the following if I want to record in SD while playing in HD:

PS3 to receiver -> component
receiver to tv -> component or hdmi
receiver to capture device -> svideo + audio

I haven't tried this yet but I'm sure my receiver will split the outputs for me.

interesting, i thought the 360 could only display either one of component or composite at a time, thats the reason i didn't attempt a setup to capture gameplay. thanks for the info

EasyCap is connected to my Acer Aspire One A110 - 1.6ghz, 1gb ram, XP SP3

Justin.tv using Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder 3 - 500Kbps, VP6, 320x240, 20.00 frame rate, AUdio is lowest it can go Mono 11hz, 18Kbps

i have to play at 480p on xbox 360 - picture quality could be better on Justin.tv if i had faster computer connected to easycap and if internet was faster, i get lag if i try to increase picture quality on Adobe Flash encoder

Pic of my Easycap connected to laptop - the RCA or Composite (RED, WHITE) wires run to a splitter which splits audio back to TV and video (Yellow) doesn't need to be split with 360 component cables - If you play on PS3 or Xbox 1 you'll need to split video feed same way as Audio

I read easycap only supports 32 bit OS, XP or Vista 32bit

The links in first post go directly to where i got it, $20.00 Canadian total for easycap + 3 splitters

Dealextreme, free shipping, it took a week and a half, I didn't use the disc that came with it, you can use windows movie maker or amcap (free online)

on PS3 you'll probably have to play on composite cables, you'll need 3 of those splitters if your tv doesn't have tv out

and i had spare composite video cable and 2 composite audio cables which i used to split back to the TV

so PS3 composite cables go into easycap, then the splitters had cables going back to the TV...that was it

There's better quality stuff out there and stuff that lets you play in HD and record in HD but its pretty expensive i think

Here's about low/medium quality that i streamed to Justin.tv http://www.justin.tv/clip/02a7f54c1b1bf863

people on youtube have some widescreen videos but not sure if they stretched it to look like that

It lets me record in 720x480, thats highest resolution

i haven't tried recording yet and putting high quality youtube vidoes just low quality justin.tv streams

that looks expensive, i only paid $20.00 total

if you want to play in HD and record in HD, i heard this was what people used for ps3, there's also something called blackmagic intensity but i heard people couldn't get it to work with ps3
