Killzone 2 sales are still lower than I expected. Last month people(read sony fanboys) were sayin' it was release late in the month, therefore the low number of sales. But now what? I know, I know, just wait for God Of War III; at least I know I'll buy that:D

Not really surprising, considering most of the sales come in the first week.
Still, I expected KZ2 to sell more.
halo wars sold more in 1 month than kz 2 in 2 months
KZ2 was released just 4 days before Halo Wars. So a better comparison would be to combine Feb+March KZ2 numbers (so ~619k vs 639k). I expected both games to sell more.

thats where your fanboyism has come into play. It hasn't been 3 years like this. Maybe you need to go back in time and find out when all three consoles were released. Also maybe you need to look back to last year, when PS3 did surpass monthly sales of 360 for a few months (at least as far back as I remember) but I know for sure it has beat 360 in past.
Whats the point of just looking at NPD (ie/ US) data. We already know the Wii is going strong, many American's love the 360. Its just the way of life in NA. Halo is a brand name. I'm shocked it sold around 600000 because it has that name attached to it.
to respond to Rahzel. Killzone2 actually sold a bit more in Europe than it did here.

The big shock for me this month, is how well The Show 09 did. Everything else was pretty much expected.
edit: Oh, and how well RE5 did too.

Are you nuts? Pokemon platinum will completely demolish RE5 on all platforms combined. Heck platinum will likely outsell the combined 2-5 all on its lonesome.
Platinum was beaten by RE5 (360), but as the third iteration it likely didn't appeal to many D/P owners.
Disappointing sales for KZ2. I wonder if PS2 sales will surpass PS3 sales next month with its price drop. DSi sales should be interesting to see.
mad world (wii) and GTA: Chinatown Wars (ds) fails to make the top 10 ...
Those are both very niche games on more casual-oriented systems. If GTA was on say the PSP it might have made the top 10. Mad World probably wouldn't have made the top 10 on any console.

It did, during March NPD period. MLB was also released on March 3rd, so only 4 days after KZ2. Add Feb numbers and KZ2 sold more than double of MLB.

DS may be referred to as a niche system in terms of being targeted towards casual gamers but there are so many owners of the DS that I expected a whole lot more of GTA.
I KNOW kids love GTA on their consoles, I'm pretty sure most of them would find a way to get this game no matter what. The sheer numbers alone should be able to drive sales for Grand Theft Auto.

Meh, my reasoning behind not buying KZ2 is mainly because KZ1 wasn't a great game, and a sequel to an average doesn't really excite me. My PS3 isn't really used for gaming anymore, my parents just use it for movies. The 360 is taking care of my gaming itch. Still can't explain the Wii sales, though..

GTA Chinatown probably suffered from piracy a lot, because people which are interested in that game I assume are the same people who are knowledgeable on how to use a DS cart and poor a.k.a. college students.
Pokemon on the other hands is bought by children whose parents are clueless.

Just watch, Pokemon Platinum will surpass combined RE5 sales within 3 months of release.
I am very surprised by RE5 sales for 360. That just shows its not as pirated as people think.
AT this rate, until PS3 pricing is equal to 360 Pro pricing, I think they'll be forever 3rd place in the NA market.

I am very disappointed with the DS's GTA numbers.
I bet people pirated that one to hell. Probably one of the reasons why the first PSP game sold was due to the exploit (in addition to it being a very good game).

Killzone 2 sales are still disappointing though. I'm playing through the game now about 2 hours in. It's alright, but not great. Feels like they took a bunch of ideas from Gears of War and COD4 and put put it into one. Decent, but nothing innovative and definitely not a killer app.

Bitching Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! about KZ2
Sony responds to NPD on Apr 17:
"blah, blah, bla...PLAYSTATIONŽ3 (PS3) blockbuster exclusive KillzoneŽ 2 on February 27. With more than 1 million copies sold worldwide and a truly “only on PlayStation” experience, the hit game has garnered the biggest initial success at retail of any first-party PS3 title to date"
Hold on a second, this game was pre-ordered 1.1 million in Europe (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=207519)alone, so how can worlwide sales only be 1 mil. I smell ********
And by the numbers, looking at NPD, for platforms exclusive "blockbusters", Gears 1 sold 1.00mil in 3 weeks to about 3.4mil 360s base vs Killzone 2 at 0.62mil in 5 weeks to about 7.2mil PS3s. I call ******** on Sony's attach rate vs. install base rant

MadWorld Sells 66K
no wonder the price of it went down so fast!
Sega's other M-rated title on Wii, House of the Dead: Overkill, also managed to have a subpar debut, selling only 45,000 copies during February. What does this say for The Conduit, the third of Sega's M-rated games for Wii? Could Sega's gamble on the mature audience of Wii gamers been a wrong move? All signs are pointing to "yes" right about now ...

My personal pick for the Darwin Award for corporate BS. They might as well throw Sony TVs in there for good measure.
All in all, not surprising. I'll be more surprised if this changes by the end of this generation. As for Madworld, it's going to be the No More Heroes story all over again: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/673-MadWorld
My sentiments exactly. Just. Give. Up. Leave Mario and Fit on the Wii, put out all the motion controlled gimmick games - it's doing fine as it is. Take your M rated game to a console better suited for its adoption and cut your losses.

Madworld on the Wii is about as popular as Sega Superstars Tennis on the Xbox 360. Still, with the crazy install base of the Wii, you would think it will sell better

I really, honestly, cannotbemoreseriously think that the chief reason why these games are floundering on the Wii is because the Wii is (rightly) percieved as a MP console, whereas all of these games are SP in nature. People who want a visceral SP experience are going to be hard pressed to overlook the Wii's graphical limitations to begin with - and when you throw out the ability to actually play with anybody else, it defeats one of the main attractions of the console, not to mention playing it with your family. I mean, tennis, golf, er... drums and dancing and random flailing is omnicaterable. I can just imagine asking parents and grandparents and kids to sit down for a game of MP madworld...
Incidentally how much did Sega Superstars Tennis sell on the 360? I have no idea.

these are disappointing numbers, but considering how cheap these games are to develop (they are very short as well and shouldn't have costed $50 in the first place).. it doesn't seem so bad.. House of the Dead will probably have strong legs being an arcade shooter, the previous game hit close to a million solely on legs after a long time. Sega says they're pleased from these sales, time will tell.
it's certainly not as bad as some of the epic jrpgs bombing this gen. some of them are lucky to make back the sky high development costs.. just look at all the gaming companies going bankrupt from HD costs and lukewarm sales.

it can't be that cheap as your putting it. Yes making a Petz game is probably ridiculously cheap but these games are not in the same vein as those stupid Petz games. Devs are putting time into the Wii based on the idea that the install base is so large, they should be swimming in dough like Nintendo is and that simply isn't happening.

Being a Wii owner, more than half my games are Nintendo published. Not because the other games suck but the Nintendo name is "proven" and this is despite Nintendo not exactly being a prolific publisher on the Wii. I don't know why that is.
With the PS3, most of my games are non-Sony 1st party published. Same with the 360.

uhh madworld and house of the dead are 5 hours tops.. Most HD games are in development for YEARS with much larger teams and more expensive dev kits, this is a FACT... They can total around 12-25 million and need to sell something like a million just to break even in some cases. I can't imagine how games like Tales of Vesperia, too human and lair net lost accounted for. In this economic climate many devs cannot risk or afford too many failures with such high costs.. hence why the ps360/pc multiplatform alliance exists so strongely with previous exclusives going multiplat to recover costs as much as possible.
"Due to high development cost of titles for PS3, we have decided to switch the platform to which we release our Monster Hunster 3 title," commented Capcom managing corporate officer Katsuhiko Ichii.
Also, What dev would expect an 18+ niche title of a new IP nobody has heard of to be swimming in dough on the Wii? Platinum games/Clover make amazingly artistic games unfortunately your average gamers don't give a crap about non mainstream clever games. Hence why amazing titles like Okami, Viewtiful joe made by them last gen did worse in sales... Considering how badly these previous hits bombed on the PS2.. would it be any different if Madworld was made for other consoles at double the dev costs? Probably wouldn't even be in black/white then.
