Hi All
I got windshield cracked by a stone chip. now i know i need to replace it but was just wondering where can i do without paying to much?
I called Speedy Glass they said it will cost me $320 + tax which quite alot.
Any idea would be much appreciated.
My car is 2003 Mazda Protege.
Any thing near Thornhill would be great.

Why go somewhere, call a windshield guy who will come to you and do it. I've used Jam-one autoglass twice, he did a good job both times, and inexpensively ($180 for BMW 3-series). They can install OEM windshield if you want, but more pricey of course than aftermarket. 416-873-6712.

How reliable is that guy?
Well, of the 2 times I needed his services, he showed up both times. So for me, that makes it 100% reliable, but obviously I have no idea what his record is like overall. His business card says 23.5 hour service, so I guess he takes a hlf-hour off a day, could be unreliable at that time :D

if you do a search - there should be a thread on windshield repair guy - "Ron something" - reasonably price (cheap) and does good work. I think he is located in the Scarborough/Pickering area.

Give Pedro a call, I had him change the windshield on my '05 GTI last year at my office and I was very pleased with his work and prices. Depending if you care or not but the type of glass you choose can affect the price too. Pedro offered me 3 options for my car but I went with the OEM factory windshield since in my case it wasn't that much more but ask him what other options are there for your car. Good luck.
Here is a thread from another local car enthusiast forum I have been a member on if you want to read what others have to comment about Pedro and his work:

My total was $172 taxes in... pretty decent job, it's been a year now and no leaks. They also guarantee their work against leaks if there's no rust.
Good luck

Don't forget that if you have comprehensive insurance, you only have to pay the deductible, and some places will pay it for you.

Did you mention to Pedro you have been shopping around? I forgot what the keyword was but after I mentioned that my friend with the mk1 rabbit sent me I got a much lower price. Stupid but in the end I got what I wanted for a very good price.

Had the windshield replaced at Auto Glass Worx (http://www.autoglassworx.com/). Budds' BMW, Ideal Honda and some other dealers outsource to them. Spoke with Ken and he's very knowledgable and explained everything to me. They did a fantastic and clean job and was very reasonable.

Answering my own question, here are the prices I've got for my '98 toyota tercel:
214$+tx
Ontario Auto Glass 613-728-6241

K1Y 2N4
240$+tx
Eric's Auto Glass & Trim 613-741-7860

[saw the following on a VW forum : Eric's Auto Glass has a good rep among local dubbers, though I haven't used him myself. Good prices, and knows enough to use the proper urethane adhesive. IIRC, he's also mobile.]
270$, tx included
Spartan Collision Corp 613-731-2475
1792 Bank Street,
Ottawa, ON
K1V 7Y6
275$+tx
Apple
Toll Free: 1-866-44-APPLE
484$+tx
PH Vitres auto
gatineau, qc
40, boul greber

(Said "WOAH , that's the cost of the glass alone when I told him that apple was 275$+Tx)
