Hey everyone, I'm planning on buying a lexus rx. Not sure whether to buy the 350 or wait for the 450 hybrid to come out in june. Any suggestions? For the 350 I was planning on buying the Ultra Premium One Package. I'm not sure which packages are available with the new 450. If anyone has any clue of the price for the 450 and the packages please post.
Besides that I need to know how much I should be expecting to get the Ultra Premium One package for. What is the dealers invoice price on it? Tried placing a couple offers of 46k last week, I got a lowest return on 46800.

First of let me say that as a current lexus RX330 owner, you have chosen one of the finest vehicle of its class. Now as for prices, since the new 350 and upcoming 450 hybrid are very new to the market, don't expect anything less than MSRP i would say. I suspect 46800 is probably the closest, but I don't have the invoice price on hand, this is just based on common sense with the market whenever a new car model is out.

On the 350 vs 450 debate, the previous generation of regular RX vs RX hybrid I recall consumer reports did a comparison. They calculated that the upfront extra cost of the RX Hybrid would take more than 10 years to break even with the regular RX. Hence I strongly suspect that in the new one as well, the difference between the new ones is almost 7k.

Economically the 450 hybrid is a better choice, but financially the 350 is a better choice.

Well first off thanks for the comment, I was getting about 3k off the msrp for the ultra premium one....msrp is 49k and change I was getting for 46.8k. As for your opinion on the 350 vs 450, if it takes 10 years to get your money's worth, its pointless for me as I never keep my cars for over 4-5 years. I was wondering more on the features on the hybrid. According to the lexus.ca site, the 450 has HUD while 350 didn't...but I'm not sure if it had it on the base model because to get that I'm not going to spend too much extra money. Simply I was looking more on the features of the car. Also I drive about 25-30k km a year so I'm not sure if thats taken into consideration from the reports you reffered to.
Thanks

...

Do you take your cars to the junk yard at the end of the 4-5 years?

Two people I know bought cars and they both kept them for 4 years.
Girl A bought an Accord 4-cyl because she was concerned about fuel efficiency and girl B bought a Sonata V6, since the extra $3k for the Accord that she'd have to shell out would take 10 years of fuel savings to recoup. After 4 years they both sold their cars. The Accord fetched $4k more than the Sonata, PLUS all the fuel savings over the four years!!! How could girl B have been so wrong??? It made perfect sense to buy the cheaper gas guzzler as she was only going to drive it for a few years! How did she end up spending many thousands more? Where did she go wrong? I don't get it, its just too complicated, life is so unfair!

I saw in the paper that the 2008 400h has a $5000 factory + $2000 dealer incentive. Add the $2000 from the Provincial gov. (ont) and you have a sweet deal if you can find any 2008 left.

No I trade my old cars in. Right now I have an 05 toyota camry but no dealer's giving me more than 10k so I rather keep it as theres nothing wrong with it. As for the hybrid part...the dealer told me that standard cars have a greater trade in value than the hybrids as there is less demand for hybrids currently...so I'm not really sure if that part is right...

Yeah I know about that incentive....Airport and Queen lexus in brampton and oakville has these available...a total of 9k off....when I talked to the agent he was giving me a total of 13k (dealer in oakville) but when I looked at all the features that the 2010 had that 2008 didn't I preffered going with the 2010 also taking in to fact the depresation for 2 years...25% first year and 15% second year according to the dealer.
there is no keyless engine starter in 08
smaller tires
smaller cargo space
less width
weaker body
greater fuel consumption then the 2010 450
lower horse power
body shape was less sleek and a lot of other factors...

I can't say anything about the RX, but looking at the GS:
The GS 450h in Canada has all the options standard, while the GS 350 starts at base. Apparently it's a better deal if you want all the options on a standard GS.
The GS 450h has better performance, since the electric motor adds ~30 HP and improves acceleration; along with saving a bit of fuel. You can set the mode you want on the touch screen depending on what you want (performance/fuel savings).
I have a GS 350 and drive through a construction site (cut and cover tunneling) every day ~20km/h, so a hybrid would definitely save on gas...but my situation is pretty extreme.

So if you want better performance and perhaps some savings on the extreme option set, you might want to wait for the hybrid.

I would guess that your usage is higher than average and you would take less time to break even (but probably not 4-5 years though). But if that's mostly highway driving then it may not make much difference.

Like what another poster has said about the GS450h, in Canada the 400h was only available in base (which pretty well had most of the options available to the 350) and one package (better stereo, DVD system with backup camera, nav). I would expect the 450h to be similar.

i would avoid hybrids. they do more harm to the environment than good. Batter disposal at the end of the car's lifespan threatens the environment more than the gas emitting for a traditional gasoline car.

Economically the 450 hybrid is a better choice, but financially the 350 is a better choice.

and environmentally, 350 is better than 450 (in the car's life cycle)

Speaking ot the RX 350, anyone think the 2010 model is worth the extra $8K or so over a loaded Toyota Venza? I'm trying to decide between these two vehicles and one reason I'm leaning towards the Venza (other than cost) is that I have no local Lexus dealer. How important is having a local dealer and can/will a Toyota dealership service a Lexus?

And in response to the hybrid option, I just can't see it making any financial sense. Or even environmental sense once the cost of battery production/replacement is taken into account. It is a real neat vehicle though...

I did take a look at the venza...it just didn't seem as good to me as the lexus. Even though the manufacturer is the same, the quality of the parts used is less in the toyota. The venza has a lower horse power, not a really good design in my opinion for a suv type of veichle. It looks like a station wagon version of a camry. I really like the blue colour for the rx, and the features i noticed during the test drive. The lexus has a feature near the speed meter which tells you how much you should accelerate at to get the best fuel efficiency. As for me driving....I drive mostly in the city and a bit less on the highway. As for your question about toyota servicing a lexus...it depends...if you want an oil change...sure why not? If you need a front bumper change or warranty serviceing...NO you will need to go to the lexus dealership

I think a comparable RX350 to the fully loaded Venza V6 AWD would cost more than 8k; the base RX350 has premium cloth seats; granted the NAV system on the lexus looks much cooler in the commercials :D

Thanks for the comparison charliebrown. I've been meaning to find all the differences between the Venza and Rx 350 but of those you list, the 350 has ventilated front seats, a better stereo, better leather, seat memory, auto-dimming mirrors and a neater NAV control (with the same functionality). The Venza has larger, more easily replaceable tires.

I never realized there was a $16K+ difference! I know there's other differences and the Lexus looks nicer, particularly inside (the acres of hard plastic in the Venza are a turnoff, my 5 year old Hyundai Elantra GT has much nicer interior materials).

Not anymore. For 08 it did, for 09 that isn't the case.

I'm really disappointed that somebody who is willing to spend $50k on a car is too cheap to spend $40 to find out the CCC invoice price on their own instead of asking other people that paid for the service!

it's not the car cost canada report i'm looking for i'm looking for somone who has made a successful deal after negotiating with lexus I already have the carcostcanada report....the invoice price for the premium 1 is around 45500 and change....i tried showing it to my dealer but still refused to give me for the price i'm looking for so I want to know if anyone else was successful.

Take a look at the demo cars, I got 25% off one with 8,000km and warranty starting the day of purchase. When buying a new Lexus, you would get around price - cash incentives - $1000 max, which is what I got when looking for a new outgoing 09 RX in November (I didn't buy it at the end though).
Lexus cars hold its value for several reasons, and one of them is because they offer very little incentives and keep the price high.

So what if you know that someone bought the car from 46k? What good does that do if they don't want to sell it to you at that price? If the vehicle is in demand suck it up. The more time of the salesguy you waste, the less hell be inclined to deal.

Thanks for the heads up on the demo but as for the 1000 max, thats incorrect as I got around 3k+
