Laptop with 1920x1200 Res.

Hi all, I am in the market for a laptop with a screen resolution of 1920x1200. The Dell Studio 15 with this upgrade will cost $999. I was wondering if this is the best I can get for this price or are there other laptops out there with this resolution for a better price? I would like the screen to be at least 15". Here are the specs for the studio 15:

That's the going price, I guess... I paid almost twice that for my Dell Latitude D830 ~2 years ago with 1920x1200 15.4" screen.

One word of advice: do not get a 6-cell battery if you have the higher res screen. WUXGA screens are absolute power hogs, and, generally speaking, are only usable if you turn their backlights up to full. Why? Because the tightly spaced LCD grid means that there is significant attenuation of the backlight's illumination. Make sure you get the 9-cell battery.

Personally, I'd go onto eBay and see if you can find a Latitude D830, w/7200rpm drive. At least with the Latitudes, you can buy a docking station and install a 2nd external LCD (ie: a 1920x1200) through DVI without a lot of expense. Can't do that on those Studio laptops IIRC.

Good luck... With the release of IE8, and with Vista, WUXGA is very usable on a 15.4" laptop, and I love mine... But there's a few 'gotchas'.

Keep in mind: you can probably get cheaper ram and drives if you buy it separately from DC/NCIX/CC and install it yourself.

Just notice right now that you can configure a dell Vostro 2510 for 880 with GF 8400GS or Vostro 1510 for 730, both with WUXGA screen, also take a look at the new Vostro 1720, but the other parts may be inferior, so I don't know how do they compared value wise.

thanks for the help guys. For the Vostro's, are the WUXGA screen's 1920x1200 res as I cant find the spec on the site :confused:

I believe WUXGA means 1920*1200, unless dell changed the meaning of WUXGA. You can always call to confirm anyway.
