View Full Version : Unique ways of giving a birthday gift?
Strategy

Im going to a birthday party at the Keg soon, and I wanted to give my friend a gift card. I was wondering how I could present it in a strange way.
The last birthday I went too, I put a $50 bill in a pack of gum. When my friend opened it he had that 'wtf?' look on his face, until like 2 hours later when he actually opened the gum package and saw the money.. haha hilarious
So if anyone has any ideas... go ahead :)
Thanks :D

That gum thing is dangerous. What if he/she had given the gum to a frienemy and that person stole the money? As a suggestion, I would ditch the gift card and just give money. Also, it's not really the delivery, but the present itself that matters. Forget that thought stuff ;)

I agree. Some people don't appreciate unique and creativity.
Just follow the crowd and give a card with money.

I never follow the crowd, though. I think i have a decent idea:
Ill open the bottom of a kleenex box, stick the gift card in, seal the box up again. Then when he opens it, he'll have to take out all the kleenex's to get to the money (unless he opens the bottom tho, which i will make it hard for him to do)
What do you guys think?

I'd try to gift it in an absurdly over packaged way. I'd recommend twenty layers made up of cling wrap, duct tape, packing tape, newspapers, wrapping paper, cardboard and any other similar materials.
Or alternately just make it look like something else, i.e. recreate the shape of a wine bottle. and use one of those paper lcbo bags. I've had good luck with those.

Encrust it in 24k gold and various jewels in the shape of a tie, or lamp.

This idea sounds best. My friend did that for me one time and there were layers upon layers that I had to get through to get to the re-mastered version of the Peter Pan DVD.
But the whole present was still in the shape of the DVD, so I kinda knew what it was. I like the idea that Door- mentioned of making it look like something else and them being completely thrown off when they find out what it is :)
I'm assuming you want to keep it simple and easy (hence the gift card), which is why I won't really suggest making a cake to put it in (well I guess I suggested it anyway :P)
Or just a pack of playing cards and slip this one in.

Give a $10 bill and wrap 2 $20 bills in it. My friend once did something similar to that, it was nice. It's called "money origami" or something like that.
Or give $10 .
EDIT: Simple search resulted in this (http://members.cox.net/crandall11/money/). I would suggest the gift box because it looks easy to make; the others, not so much. Don't rip the money .

If you are going to give money... wrap it up as others have suggested, but give it in rolls of quarters or dimes.. etc

Now just so I am clear you are looking for a unique way of giving $50 cash to a friend or a gift card woth $50.
If its $50 cash how about either geting a piece of cardboard and use $50 loonies to spel out the year of their birth or get a calendar and tape the fifty in the middle of the month and write Happy Birthday and then put the entire thing in a frame. Or another idea if they read the newspaper contact the newspapers archive department to see if you can get a reprint of the front page from the day they were born. Print it out and somehow wrap the $ 50 bill arount it. If its a gift card get the card and maybe pack it within a deck of a regular pack of cards or get $50 trading cards based on a sport, tv show or movie they like and put them in pages and then in binder.

Im still thinking about either money or gift card. I don't know what stores he's interested in, so a gift card might not be the best idea. However, I do like your deck of cards idea. I may actually do that, thank you :)

How would he know that you put $50 in the box?
He'll think that you gave him a cheap present and he'll put the box in the closet.
How about framing $50?
Could be a real picture frame or a cardboard frame that you make yourself.

Well, I'll tell him of course, I don't want him throwing it out by accident.
I mean, I'm sure he'll catch on.. who gives someone a kleenex box as a present? But just in case he's a bit dense... I'll let him know.
Hes a smart guy though, he'll catch on right away.

Step 1-Take the $50 and put it in a small plastic container
Step 2-Seal the plastic container in a brick of concrete.
Step 3-Watch him try to figure out how to get at it.
Alternatively you could freeze the container in a huge block of ice.

Another Idea which I have seen in the USA but not up here is there is a comapny that can put gifts and or cards in balloons and the person has to pop the balloon to get to the card and or gift.
Incidently your quite welcome my famil;y likes what I do with gifts I might not have alot of money to spend but how I prepare. As a example one time for one of my sisters for a b-day I got her a package of microwave popcorn, a bowl, a pair of batteries and a copy of one of his favourite movies on DVD that he had not woned and I put all in the aforementioned bowl.

I think the Party Packager does the present in a balloon idea. Seen teddy bears and such in them before.
Just put it in his steak, you'll get the WTF look for sure.

My uncle once gave me a wrapper box, which had a smaller box inside, which had a smaller box inside, which had a smaller box inside, which had $50 inside. It was pretty funny.

Do this. Cut a hole in a box. Stick *%$! in box. place the gift card nicely inside. when your friend opens it, they'll be like, WTF??!?!? it's a *%$! in a box??? but then they'll see the gift card and hilarity will ensue.

What about just giving it to the waitress/waiter to present on a plate? Tell them to say it's compliments of "your name".
