Electronic Arts today contacted game writers around the country asking them to return the brass knuckles they were sent as part of a promotion for Godfather II.

Brass knuckles or metallic knuckles are illegal in many of the states that they were shipped to. They're also illegal in California, where EA is based.

they just needed another reason to fire another department...in this case, their entire marketing department.

EA is crazy. How could they not see that coming. At least ship it made of hard candy not metal.

on second thought they should have shipped out horse heads or fish in newspaper lol.

Oops?

Honestly, next time they do a promo like this, make it out of chocolate or something.

The brass nuckles were actually a compromise WRT what originally EA wanted to bundle, originally the game was bundled with an HIV infect needle and a dime bag of herion.

You have to wonder where they bought all those brass knuckles -- or are they just readily available everywhere?

Ha that's hilarious. I think they are illegal in Canada too no? Well I know butterfly knives are but not sure about brass knuckles...

Your typical Rockstar GTA promo package. Game, and, uh, "augments with which to enjoy it"...

After all the bad press these violent videos games get from the "games cause violence" crowd, I don't think shipping them out with real weapons helps.

Maybe it's some really daring publicity stunt.

Wow, makes you wonder if they laid off their legal staff in this recession. WTF? I could see it being made of flimsy collapsable plastic but anything substantial enough to inflict hurt on people... what idiots.

Yeah but it's just as illegal to re-sell it I bet, if you live in a jurisdiction where it is illegal or are selling it to someone in such jurisdiction.
