Hello guyz
I'm thinking of buying a wii this summer. Any suggestions for the cheapest shops. I know brands like futureshop, staples and bestbuy are usually expensive. Any good deals in some local shop perhaps? Preferably within toronto (or whereever ttc can take me :cheesygri), but wouldn't mind one in the neighbourhood if the deals good enough.

Also, suggestions for wii mods as well, with genuine wii chips. Someone who is pro enough to keep eveything as if it was never opened.

The cheapest the wii goes for is it's usual price $269.99? Big stores try to inflate the price by adding extra games which aren't worth it..

if you don't mind used.. check out the BST section of RFD.. I have seen people selling wii's for $150 there, most likely they had no clue how much it could be hacked.. There's a new hack out most likely this weekend for all wii's that will allow you to install Homebrew channel directly OUT OF THE BOX without the need of modchips/game discs..

from there you can install a softmod yourself (there are many online guides) and the USB loader.. so you can just download ISO's onto a hard drive and fire them up on the Wii without having to change discs. I find having a modchip does not prevent you from worrying about updates.. it still requires the same amount of knowledge of management to install IOS hacks to make new games work and not patch the system to prevent WAD installers.. it's easy to undo the softmod as well. thanks to preloader and the upcoming bootmii, it's near impossible to brick your wii at this point with the right things in place.

Ive got premodded units with warranty 1 yr for $380, receipt for the wii included. The chip I use is your choice either d2pro or drivekey, and I keep it solderless. You won't know it was ever opened :) I also carry other chips like the wiikey2 etc, but the top two choices are drivekey and d2pro. Also with a modchip never have to worry about the updates or play the cat and mouse game so much as you do with softmods or even keep up with the information etc. I get so many people that go from softmods to modchips just because its simple and always works, if you want the best of both worlds though you can always do both.

Don't you have any friends with a Wii? Just take it when they're not looking. If they ask where you got your Wii, say you bought it.

Thanks all you guys for replying! but there is still somethings not clear for me.

@skeletor: Tigerdirect has a sale on wii right now for $250. I guess that's the cheapest then. this might be dumb questions but whats the BST section? (sorry I'm new to this site). btw can you name the new hack?

@DJXP: can you do a breif comparison between the chips (especially why you prefer drivekey and d2pro)? I mapped canadamods and see its about a block above yorku. Is that accessible by ttc?

@Firestorm: I wish dude! but most of my friends consider themselves "hardcore" gamers to get a wii:mad:. Mostly xbox360, else ps3. I reason I can play those games on my computer, wii I can't.

In that site, it says there are new Wii's that are unmoddable. I haven't kept up, had no idea that was the case. Good thing my bro bought his Wii just 3 weeks ago and I was able to install HBC and Starfall.

Say, does anyone know of a homebrew cheat device for the Wii th at works with the usbloader (not for online cheating)?

edit: here it is: hungyip85's modification of WiiShizzza's modification: http://superuploader.net/84e618476418-usbloader3-dol.html

/UPDATE: 13/04/09
Hungyip85 released the V4UltimateEdition
It has all the features and fixes of waninkoko's usl-loader 1.4 in it, except the SD Loader
Some think it's not really needed...
Anyway this mod also has following features.

- you can enable/disable Ocarina
- you can change the Titlename through an txt file on root of SD
- you can see the game covers
- you can force the disc video Mode, the consoles videomode, and patch the video mode
- you can configure the design/layout of the loader through a config file on the root of your SD
(move console, covers to another position, console color, etc.)
- you can configure the loader to run at ADULT, TEEN and KID.
So you can be save you're kids won't delete anything on the hdd.

Put config.txt in SD:/apps/usbloader/ or in SD:/
put titles.txt in SD:/apps/usbloader/

Example config.txt:
http://pastebin.com/m735bd821

titles.txt should have something like this:

RFNP = Wii Fit
RHAP = Wii Play
RSPP = Wii Sports
RMGP = Super Mario Galaxy

Here you can have it:

Source will arrive later on.

Thanks firestorm. I forgot to post an update. Ya I've found that as well on gbatemp and am using it on Tales :). With the USB Loader, it seems the load times are a noticeably faster over my real disc.

I use a Wasabi DX solderless chip from consolesource. Plug-and-play, no worry about updates and everything works.;)

if you are picking up a brand new wii I would go with the wasabi dx. it works as a ribbon chip and a solderless chip. the ribbon chips are limited to 3x and the regular chips go up to 6x. the wasabi dx gives you both option on one chip.
