Hey guys I was wondering if any of you had any strategies for buying Tickets that are most likely going to be sold out.
Ticket Master is releasing some Tickets That i KNOW will be sold out. but they are only accepting ONLINE and through the phone...
I REALLY want these tickets.. but i'm debating on how I should get them..
The phone is probably the worst right?
any ideas? thanks.

Right off the bat, the first thing I imagine you could try is both. If you can manage it, have a phone by your side and a computer in front for snagging tickets.

I recently used ticketmaster for the first time to get Metallica tickets. Since I assumed they would sell out almost immediately, I read up on it and followed this ticketmaster buying guide:
http://www.simplehelp.net/2006/07/30/how-to-get-tickets-for-any-ticketmaster-event
Worked well and I did get pretty decent tickets on my first search (it reserves them for like 2 minutes while you decide if you want them or not) but then I got greedy and decided to discard them and search again for better seats. Bad idea since the next search I did (30 seconds later) everything was sold out already. So if you do get tickets reserved on your first search, I say don't hesitate and just buy those.
However, I got lucky and they announced a second show for the day after an hour or so later and I managed to get tickets for that show instead. Of course, that wont happen for most shows.

Generally your best option is to be come a fan club member and buy tickets that go on pre-sale.
Other than that, just try to type as quickly as you can. If you are planning on going with a friend then have them try to buy tickets as well. Even if you buy multiple tickets you can just re-sell the ones you aren't going to use, either for a profit or at face value.

pre-sales are the best. Most of my tickets were bought this way -- Metallica (4 floor tickets!!!), Leafs, and other concerts.
If not, use the guide that was posted above. Take the first set of tickets given to you. DO NOT GIVE THEM UP if you know that all tickets are going to be sold out quickly. There are always opportunities to swap/trade tickets with other on craigslist etc.

i just tried to get canucks play off tickets today at 10am.
at ~10:00:10 the tickets were sold out..
in 10 secs. what a joke.. this is totally not fair to the average users...
i know the scalpers have those sophisticated programs.... that sucks.

Time for some scouring on Craigslist/Kijiji/eBay.
Just won a pair of concert tickets for less than the price of one on eBay. (The item showed up on the ebay.com, but not under the ebay.ca search engine) There's always someone selling tickets at face (or less) as the event draws nearer. Won tickets to The Police on eBay in a similar fashion, though at a smaller discount.

I guess I'm lucky then. Scored 4 round 1 game #2 tickets. Did you refresh your browser right at 10am? I sync'd with the atomic clock and the find tickets link showed up a few second after the hour.

The article says not to use F5 to refresh... but I find that it works best during those 10-20 seconds the sale goes online. Scored my U2 tickets that way.

I didn't have any luck with tickets either. I guess I better try to get playoff tickets from Craigslist or scalpers.
