Well this seems to be one of those rumors that just wont die. COuld this be the psp 4000 or the psp2? Personally im hoping for the psp2 as then it would be a fresh start.

Anyone care to post specs that they THINK it will have if it is the psp2? Personally i think it will have a 80 gig hdd onboard, prehaps more and it will be almost 100% online for DLing content as I doubt UMD will be used for it. I wouldnt be surprised if there was PS1 and ps2 BC in it either. Release this bad boy and a BC emulator for teh PS3 at the same time and start selling ps2 and more ps1 games through the store would certainly help them make more money. Colour me excited!

I'm guessing it's way too soon

The price will probably be $250-400 =/

Just to be clear, the pics on Kotaku are extremely misleading because those pics are mockups created by some random person some 2 years ago.

PSP is pretty much dead imo, unless you plan to run homebrew on it. A PSP2 with no UMD and pure DRM only software would be a wet dream for Sony, so I can see Sony pushing for a PSP2 sooner rather than later.

Yes this is very true, those are in no way an official picture but somethign dreamed up by a fan. That being said i bet the PSP is kind of like MS first xbox (just more successful of course) and the psp 2 will be like the 360.

Oh man that would be awesome!

I'm surprised they aren't going through with a PSPhone or something like that. The possibilities for something like that would be amazing.

Right, forgot about those.

I suppose they could always use flash too but wouldnt that make it way too expensive?

There was rumors about that a few years ago, honestly im a little surprised too.

I read something on techreport about it have a very strong graphics processor. It would also use technology similar to the Cell CPU in the PS3.

It will be awesome, but probably pricey when it comes out.

Was this a rumor or did they have like manufactures stating it? Id love to read it and honestly i wouldnt b e surprised by it. Would help them reduce costs and would ease introduction by keeping something close to the cell.

I remember reading that a while ago too. No idea how good it will be but it sounds very very promising.

dual thumb would be nice, but then the machine would have to be bigger. Everyone keeps talking about adding another analog nub to the current PSP but all I see is how uncomfortable that would be.

PSP ain't dead. It still sells even when fewer games are being released but I'll give you the fact that DS is at least 1billlion leagues higher than it.

PSP2 will probably be more interfaced with the PSN store where users can buy games online instead of in retail. This would cause game prices to be lower. Another viable option is to have games on memory stick duos or something similar. It won't be a new format so it should work.

sounds promising but pricey. If this is even close, then I don't see a new one for at least another year.

My thoughts are that it should have a sliding screen that as well as touch screen. Touch screen should be mandatory while providing all the buttons PSP currently has. The only other button addition should be an analog nub.

There should be two versions. One is just for gaming, music, videos, etc.. A second version that is more expensive should have similar capabilities to the Iphone and obviously be used as a cellphone. A bit costly but I may be someone who buys the combo because its one less item to carry around.

I think this rumor is true, and I would really want to buy it, but it had better be moddable. I just sold all my PSP games (since I bought a modded one), and don't want to have to buy games for this new one.

Seeing this news on Gamespot, IGN, and major gaming websites.

I do not think sony is going to use cell technology in the new PSP, there are some really powerful ARM procs with integrated GPU floating around; Tegra, OMAP, etc... Using a much more powerful version of the ARM proc that is used on the PSP is probably the best choice in terms of cost and backward compatibility.

I doubt there will be a hard drive, it should have a SDcard reader so people can use cheap SDcards.

Add in a cellphone and GPS and it could be an all in one behemoth following in the footsteps of the PS3.

Nintendo will probably come out with something half as powerful and still wipe the floor with PSP2.

2 versions would be interesting but honestly i dont see it happening myself. Im not saying it wont but i think having just one version would probably be more cost effective in cases such as this but im sure their bean counters will make the final call lol.

Dude if you want there to be games you need to buy them. I hope its connected to the PSN store big time and that you can DL lots of games for it. Im hoping on PS1 and PS2 games but thats unlikely i think.

That's a good point. But honestly I spent too much on actual games for the system (especially for my 360, and now my PS3). Whatever way I can save costs I am happy. Sometimes I wonder why I buy so many games...for the price of 5 of my Xbox games, I could get a PS3...and vice versa. No point in complaining though...I guess it's like buying ink for a printer or gas for a car.

I for one think those pics are pretty sexy. If that PSP gets releases with touchscreen I could see Nintendo taking a huge loss, I wonder how the UMD thing will work will it be killed off and everything will be D/L'd via WiFi or CPU?

I seriously can't wait to see what happens!

Oh I hope they do more than that. Touchscreen + SD card reader + camera + keyboard + proper browser and added CPU power and I'll be one of the first to get one. I just hope it's moddable at some point just so we can run emulators and play divx/xvid files :).

No way they'll use Cell. It's not built for portables.

Might as well put a GSM modem in there as well. I'll dump my iPhone, in that case ;)

The software is dead as indicated by the 4 shelves in EBgames psp section.. piracy/homebrew is keeping hardware sales alive outside japan. I look forward to a completely new psp2 with dual analogue and touch screen (how it should have been!!).. if it can play ps2 games, H 264 High definition video with decent battery life and under $300 I'm sold.. a gps/gsm chip would make it an iphone killer. But then again, Sony tacking on so much stuff and inflating the price didn't help the ps3 this gen. I don't think they could afford it in their financial situation.

Been holding off on getting a PSP since this rumour just won't die. Hopefully it won't be too expensive. I only want like 2 games on the whole system. Anything else is a bonus.

Shouldn't be hard to release two different products. PSP2 for $300 and PSPhone at $450. Hell I'd buy one for $450.
