Not nearly as common as RROD. It's less than 1% chance of YLOD happening.

Ah, I see. That's what I want to know. Btw, do you know for the PS2 Backward Compatability? Is there any way to enable it on the newer 80GB PS3?:confused::confused:

No. Only the 20gb, 60gb, and old 80gb can do PS2 BC. However, all PS3 SKUs can do PS1 BC.

You just can't resist any chance you get to slight Microsoft and their console can you? What can you expect from a Sony apologist.

Don't start. I answered his question and he is satisfied with my answer. If you want to argue that the RROD is not more likely than YLOD, you're going to argue a losing fight.

Interesting. I feel the need to play some old games lately =P

But see, he never once mentioned the 360. You brought it up even though that wasn't his question.
But to the OP, YLOD is not common at all. My 20GB PS3 is running like a dream still (though it's layered with dust since it's a dust magnet and I gave up cleaning it long ago).

He mentioned Microsoft and how I am trying to slight their product (the 360 if you didn't know). All I said was the 360 is more prone to failure, something that cannot and should not be disputed because M$ is king of faulty hardware.

sfu_lifer is referring to the OP, where there is no mention of MS and you add in the "rrod" comment for some reason...
its pretty obvious, i don't understand why you refute it.
edit, i'm not here to fight ps3 vs 360.. i really don't care about that.

what can you expect except a quip at Microsoft in every statement he (setz) makes?

I'm sure he just mentioned it because the term RLOD was coined from the xbox 360. YLOD would be derived from that term. It is directly related to the 360, hence why he mentioned it. Without the xbox 360 there would never be a YLOD reference to begin with since it happens so rarely. I've never heard of the YLOD before, but immediately thought of the 360 when I read it. Be honest, you all did too.

I have a 60gb PS3, upgraded to 320gb harddrive. It works perfect, been over a year now. On the other hand, since RROD was mentioned, I had 360 prior to it and I had to replace it 5 times. After that I gave up and bought a PS3. Very happy with my decision. Good timing too, I was able to get the last batch of 60gb PS3.

+1 no need to start a fight. Clearly the OP was only worried because he had heard of RROD, and to say it's not common is a subjective term, whereas to say it's far less than RROD is a much more informative statement. The fact that people get so defensive every time says RROD speaks volumes anyways.

A YLOD is very uncommon. It is a generic catch-all error code to say that *something* is wrong with your PS3, but it's not very specific. It could be any number of things from overheating to a faulty drive.
